I just made a video of the last few nights I spent in the deserts of kuwait hitching a trailer with an AC so that I won't melt in the heat. It's crazy what we are willing to go through for this hobby! Great Video, Thank you!

The sensor crop factor does not equal magnification. It is what your field of view will be. Astro photography and terrestrial photography differ because when you use an APS-C-sized sensor with a full-frame lens, the apparent field of view changes from 50mm FF to 80mm on the APS-C. You can do this with a full-frame sensor by putting it in APS-C mode, and it turns off part of the sensor. It's a crop... cutting out parts of the available image. But again, that is FOV, not magnification. You are still viewing at the same focal length, just a decreased field of view of the total available aperture. Set your ASI Air focal length to "0" and then perform PA. It will calculate the Focal length in MM for you. Based on the camera plugged in and the image, it records for plate solving. It should set your focal length to 430 because 73mm x 5.9a is 430.7

Thanks for your comment. You are correct that the focal length is 430mm. The effective focal length (apparent field of view) of the full setup is the crop factor of the sensor times the focal length. By my calculation, this is around 2.7 making the effective focal length greater than 1000mm.

I’m sorry, but no that is incorrect. 😅 It is a crop, crop does not equal magnification. You are cropped in on a target which you are viewing at a focal length of 430mm. Your resolution, and available field of view are reduced, because you have a smaller sensor. If I took a picture with a 30mm lens. Uploaded the image into Adobe, and cropped in 2.7x. I wouldn’t and you wouldn’t tell anyone you captured the picture on an 80mm lens. More over you would see the loss in resolution, because you decreased image by 2.7x.

Hi, Fascinating topic! I’m curious about where you got the adapter for the laser pointer. It seems really handy, and I’d love to know where to find one.
