If I was a cyclist and going to go through a red light, I would check my surrounding, and see if there any police about. So guess this cyclist must be blind, and didn't see the police, so therefore not paying attention to what on the road

It’s great to see British police reacting to this, as there is almost zero reaction in most mainland European countries. As a seasoned and committed cyclist I positively ask for such offenses to be repressed, as it’s a necessity for cycling to be taken seriously, on equal footing with the other modes of transport.

When driving in Dublin in the 80s, I was told - by a driving instructor (I was not learning) - that a red light means the bulb is working, and for stop signs, ach you only need to stop if there's someone coming. Coming from living in Germany, it was a shock to the system. At least _something_ is being done about it in London, but from my observations, it's cars almost as often as it's cyclists.

There's a medical condition where the cycle seats squeeze the dangly bits. It causes colour blindness. Red Green in particular, and fluorescent yellow is the other colour defect, fluorescent pink too! :-) More medical research is needed. A trial, where 50% of cyclists get the dangly bits removed, and the other 50% do not, and we see if colour blindness is still and issue.

Let's delve deeper into the precarious realm of red light violations, where not only motor vehicles but also cyclists and pedestrians engage in a dangerous pas de deux with traffic signals. These audacious individuals, seemingly impervious to the crimson warnings, brazenly defy the rules of the road. *Cyclists*, clad in their streamlined helmets and pedal-powered steeds, often treat red lights as mere suggestions. With a nonchalant disregard for the orderly progression of traffic, they weave through intersections, their wheels spinning in defiance. Their rationale, perhaps, lies in the belief that their nimble frames grant them immunity from the consequences that befall their four-wheeled counterparts. Yet, in this ballet of recklessness, they jeopardize their own safety and that of others-pedestrians, motorists, and fellow cyclists alike. And then there are the *pedestrians*, those bipedal wanderers who traverse the asphalt stage with a carefree abandon. Clutching smartphones, umbrellas, or coffee cups, they step off curbs without a second thought, their eyes fixed on screens or lost in contemplation. The pedestrian crossing, once a sanctuary, now becomes a mere suggestion. They dart across lanes, heedless of the traffic light's solemn glow, their pace unyielding. Perhaps they believe that their vulnerability-stripped of metal and horsepower-renders them immune to the laws of physics. But the asphalt does not discriminate; it bruises knees and scrapes elbows with equal impartiality. In this grand choreography of disobedience, the red light runners-whether on two wheels or two feet-disrupt the symphony of order. Their actions ripple through the urban landscape, creating dissonance and endangering lives. It is incumbent upon us, as stewards of safety, to advocate for greater awareness, education, and enforcement. Let us champion a harmonious coexistence on our thoroughfares, where red lights are not mere suggestions but steadfast guardians of our collective well-being. 🚦🚴‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚗

While the romance of cycling through city streets, propelled by nothing but one's own strength, has its undeniable charm, it's vital to remember that the fabric of our society is a rich tapestry of individuals, each with their own needs and abilities. Among us are those for whom cycling isn't just a challenge but an impossibility-our visually impaired friends who rely on the sounds of the city to navigate their world, individuals with physical disabilities for whom cycling is not feasible, and those who manage chronic conditions that make the physical exertion of cycling more than just a matter of breaking a sweat. Transport, in its essence, should bridge gaps, not widen them. It should foster inclusion, not isolation. The beauty of our urban environment lies in its diversity and its ability to cater to all its inhabitants, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their physical capabilities, can move freely and safely. For some, motorised transport isn't a choice made for convenience or speed but a necessity that enables participation in the bustling life of the city. Hence, while we advocate for cleaner, more sustainable modes of transport, let's not forget the importance of creating a balanced, inclusive system that recognises and respects the diverse needs of our community. Inclusivity is the cornerstone of a truly advanced society, and in striving for environmental consciousness, we must also ensure that we don't inadvertently exclude those among us who depend on alternative forms of transport to engage with the world around them

@itssayaboilastname9195 I don't personally think a locally readable (bluetooth range) beacon as used in Remote ID traceable only by the government is excessive. Anyway if you think we have privacy you need to read up on the Digital Information Bill that's going through the Lords after being approved by Parliament. HMG will be able to demand (without reason) any information held by any company on an individual. Furthermore the biometric data of everyone (ie voice data, face identification data and fingerprint data) can similarly be demanded. HMG will be able to demand location data on anyone without giving a reason. Suddenly to me a local only beacon seems less of an issue. Although HMG could track someone using it they'd need a network of bluetooth scanners across the country. Much easier to just demand location data for a target - sorry individual- from their phone service provider.
