You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video. Resurgence was great - honestly the best Trek game in years. I hope it sold well so that we get more original content like that. I've actually never played the Genesis games, though I definitely want to in the future. Next up on my Star Trek list for a video is a DS9 PC game called The Fallen. I've never played it before but heard only good things!

They might also have had to keep the main 3D view small just due to processor limitations. I'm not defending the game (I don't think I ever played it, and it doesn't look very good to me....like a poor-man's System Shock) *but* that particular design choice may have been due to technical limitations. What was the minimum CPU requirement listed for the game? Anyway, thanks -- enjoyed the review.

Glad you enjoyed the review! Yeah look, I did think that when I first started... but I think the system requirements are honestly more focused on playing some of the FMV scenes. It asks for a Pentium 90 with 16MB of RAM as a minimum & a 166 with 32MB recommended. However, Duke 3D which I think looks better and released a year earlier (although no 'real' FMV's) only asks for a 486 DX/66 with 8MB of RAM :/

Did you find Spot? 1:26 Well, Rick Sternbach decided against publishing a Technical Manual of the USS Voyager. He felt that the quality had been degrading with the DS9 Technical Manual and there would be diminishing returns. Though, if you like blueprints then I suggest that you check out the Whitefire blueprints of the USS Enterprise-D. Ed Whitefire was close to Andrew Probert and had visited the sets for research if memory serves. 7:53 I get the impression that the stun setting doesn't stun targets long enough. Which is a shame or it would have been a neat way to conserve energy. 10:52 The mission briefing, as shown at 8:53 of this video, mentions that weapons fire should be avoided. The game has got its flaws but this one is on you. Besides, I don't know if you recall that scene from "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" where a cooking pot gets disintegrated and the alarms start blaring? 11:58 It's probably my favourite level as it is a nod to an obscure reference from a TNG episode about a planet where exiled Klingons get sent and then this game suddenly has got a secret spaceport belonging to the Duras at this place. 16:04 I would argue that this is a game for people who want to experience just how difficult the job of a Starfleet officer really is. Finding a criminal in the galaxy? Finding your way around a planet while your target is making preparations to leave? That is the thing, the timer is not for show. If you wait then the Amargosa Observatory will blow up and the people you did not save are dead.

  • @azordash_games

I can safely report Spot was found and rescued :D I honestly remember the blueprints being ridiculously detailed. It's a shame we don't really get material like this for Sci-Fi and alike nowadays. The Whitefire stuff is impressive, something for me to think about for the games room one day! The whole power level for the weapons is a bit unclear... in some of the levels you burn through power so fast. You got me there! I do recall the iconic scene from Undiscovered Country :D Yeah the Klingon base just had a really good vibe to it, the fact they had sections of the base which purely existed just for world building was pretty neat for a game like this. Yeah that's a good take... as I said, despite the challenges, it's one of those games that I'm glad to have played. It's definitely one of the most difficult Star Trek games I have played... discounting some of the Dominion War missions & late turns in BOTF.

Max Payne 1: I actually think this game isn’t necessarily “difficult” but rather that theee are some sections of the game where it feels like you are EXPECTED to die a few times before you figure it out. Once you know what to do for the entire game, it’s not that bad. I will say that the dream sequences with the bloodlines in the dark absolutely SUCK and should be changed for the remake Max Payne 2: I actually think that the issue with the story in this game isn’t the reuse of characters , but rather that the game’s narrative relies almost entirely on the duality of Mona and Max. They could’ve dug more into the members of the Inner Circle, interactions with Alfred Woden, more levels where you play Mona’s perspective. More story between Vlad and Alfred Woden. They didn’t dig enough into the characters they had, so everything felt a little flat outside of “When is Max and Mona gonna get it on?”

I thought there was a more recent FPS, but, no, that was the Co-Op featuring third person shooter based on the Kelvin-verse just called Star Trek. Star Trek is a very high and very low mood space when it comes to games, though that's not unlike its franchise counterparts elsewhere - I'm always itching for more ST content though, even if the most recent has been a low (Infinite) for a few reasons.

@@azordash_games Indeed it is! While I don't think new trek is immune from criticism just like anything else, I have enjoyed it despite some trek fans best efforts XD. I bounced off Kelvinverse a little, but i I will appreciate its better moments and for keeping Star Trek ticking over during a down period - it has certainly lead to a lot of trek that I do enjoy, so good times. Maybe they'll finally make that next movie. As far as its game legacy.. I'm pretty sure the TPS Star Trek wasn't a particularly good moment either, but even in the rough theres something good.. such as more trek? I do believe its the first instance of modern trek tackling the Gorn, though, which is now interesting to think about given where some things have gone since.

24 years ago. That hurts my brain. Doom brought me in. Dark Forces made promises. Elite Force showed those promises were real. Today the variety of 1st/3rd person games is almost limitless with something for everyone. I always found it interesting that when it comes to games and the Star Trek IP, the first versions tended to be KLINGON with the Federation being used 2nd if the concept was sound - Academy is another example besides the FPS's. All this time I didn't realize you could shoot the spawn markers/teleport stations for those flying things as one advances though that ship. @2:52 Sadly there is NO WAY to truly appreciate games like these unless you were buying them as they came out. A good example is me trying to get into the Final Fantasy world. I was PC before a single Japanese console existed. I've tried, but I just can't get into it. I even bought the latest pc games/port but it never resonates with me. I enjoy the film Advent Children more . . . .
