This set up is impossible to obtain. The only way for black to get into this position is if the black king was at a7. But that means black's rook had white's king in check. The white king could not occupy row 8. In white's present position, there is a triple check on square c8. There is no way that black's king could have occupied that space before because there would have been at least a double check on that space.
Wow nice puzzle actually. Kinda funny how people are so mad at this.
Ok but then how did black get that position in the first place? What was White's move to get black in that position.
Throws this whole puzzle in the garbage as it was impossible for white to deliver a move that got black into this position
That is completely utter bs
Thanks for the extensive walkthrough! Tim Krabbé's work made me aware of the Task. But it was your elaboration that really made Yarosh's achievement of composing this puzzle sink in - and I was blown away. Beautiful!
Btw the black pawn that reaches g3 could only be the g7 or the e7 pawn at the start. That's because there's not enough pieces to capture if that was c7 pawn: only the rook on a1 and the bishop on c1 could be captured. There's also pawns that can lead the black pawn to g3, but the two d2 and f2 pawns are on their home squares, so there's no way for c7 pawn to reach g3 square
Actually I think it should be said that it's blacks turn in this position, because otherwise the sentace "Can black castle?" can be treated as "Do black have the right to castle still?" an the answer will be yes. If it's white turn then the following sequence is legal: 1. Nc8 (from b6) - b6 (pawn was on b7), 2. a3 - Bc8
Rc8#
Rc8
I am so bad in chess and yet I figured that one out. I thought you never said who plays next so everyone is just going to assume it's white cause they have more pieces. Sounds more like a trick than an actual puzzle though.
Clickbaited in 1. First time watching this channel, and the last one...
Although this could be construed as a bit of chicanery, I see the point, being, that no matter what black does, there is checkmate in one by White. In some sense it is like calling out checkmate in 6 no matter what black does.
Knight move to C6 checkmate!
And then he sacrifices THE ROOOOOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the bonus puzzle, I thought about promoting to a rook, king takes knight and then rook c8 is also checkmate
Nvm, king will have d5 to go to
This is BS. This is not mate in one.
You never looked at Re8 as the first move.
We don’t know what white put in front of black since black last move
Impossible, I checked all the possibilities
Boring
And then he sacrifices THE ROOOOOOOOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clickmate.
Google en passant
You didn't consider if the black king only blocks the white king instead of chasing the knight.
bro I solved it without thinking wtf
Nice! 👏
And then he sacrifices THE ROOOOOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And then he sacrifices THE QUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sort of got it right
First you must learn to find the correct words to describe a problem. But you collect views. Congratulations.
As much as I want to love this puzzle, I think being intentionally misleading and getting berated for it shouldn’t be surprise. You can’t pie someone in the face and then when they get mad you explain the joke and give them compensation and expect them to not hold it against you. You were obviously fishing for people to get confused, so don’t be surprised when they don’t like the result. Most people go into chess logic puzzles assuming it’s more basic and a simple test of their knowledge, misleading people like this brings them out of their comfort zone so they obviously won’t always like it.
Nc6
Na7
the last part is known. But the knight move to a7 to sacrifie the knight on b5 is beautiful.
Sorry, ngl.. this is annoying as hell
Mate on one move only if Black have to move: 1..... KxKh2 - b8 = K ++ If 1. RxK - Rc8 ++
Can you give me back my time?
Is this ... a click bait 🤔
Really nice puzzle. I did see Q takes rook but for some reason I didn't think it works (Idk y). Also I made this cool puzzle and thought you may want to check it out (made by me): FEN: 8/K1k2N2/P1p4p/2p1R3/2p1p2P/3q4/8/4B3 b - - 0 1 Black to play and win
Very nice puzzle 😊
Wowie, really fun puzzle! I am a puzzle composer myself, and this puzzle was a bit easy, but really fun!
I would have found the first move either by seeing/ignoring the thumbnail/title.😏 The rest of the puzzle was super easy.😎
200 ELO player
Why are there so many pseudo intellectuals now
that is not one move, that is multiple moves.
Important note: after 1. Rc4 Kxc4 2. c7, no promotion will put white’s king in check.
That's true! :)
You should say. Black moves and then white pieces make mate in in one.
What's cool about this puzzle is that one can deduce that it is black to move by simply studying the board. That is how the composer (not me) intended it. I think it is a cool intersection between logic and chess. Thanks for watching.
Rook c4
Nice!
nice
Thanks!
3:55 Sure you can play Ke1 but now you lose the game
I remembered an old puzzle 3 underpromotions in 1 where 3 knight promotions and sacrifices are done. You can Google it. That helped me to see a promotion to a rook was the right move and then to sacrifice it to keep black an extra pawn to move. Excellent puzzle.
Not only the first moves were obviously simple, but the whole puzzle was simple.😎
You are just a 200 rated player trying to flex by lying
Lol
Glad you thought so. Thanks for watching!
Silenced.
Love this!!
