I always love it when they say “Man Portable” Yeah, right. Obviously designated by someone who has never stepped out of the design office 😂

An articulate and seriously harrowing account, it’s astonishing what this young platoon commander and his men went through. Many of whom were in their late teens and early twenties. I hope they are doing well now. Utrinque Paratus!

Took part in both Lionheart and Crusader. One thing we found, the closer to the IGB we got the more pleased the locals were to see us, they knew what was on the other side!

I was 90a and we still had the SLR plus I remember that the brochure that is shown in the recruitment office was produced just as I started - it featured people from 89c. So early 90’s

What a waste of time and money. Just find a wood park up go to sleep 💤 read books drink German beer and then wait for something to happen, that never did. I can just imagine them deciding on a name. Over a few after lunch brandies in the mess. Oh , I say old chap what shall we call this one? How about Run Jerry run Jerry run run run ? No no can't use that . They are on our side now, Red Rushing Russian is a good one. Or I know Rocking Horse . Oh old chap love the Rocking horse one , reminds me of my nurse . We can use that at a later date. Crusader 💕 followed by Lion heart. The name Lion heart will be blood curdling for them. Wow yes those names are so powerful, enough to frighten the shit out of the USSR, that's as long as the Beatles don't fuck things up again. At least it will at same time secure our jobs by bullshiting the rest of the world, the last thing we want is to lose our free cigarette ration free petrol tax free cars tax free Alcohol travel allowance that is easy to fake .double wages for being so far away from home 6 weeks leave per year 9 to 4 daily work routine plus 2 hour lunch break. And jolly good piss ups in the mess.

Saxon/LSW. Only 2 of the worst waste of money in the Defence Procurement that happened. Made the manufacturers Billions, made the soldier nothing but defects and possible Death.

When I started training we had two platoons of 35. After the first 10 weeks of basic we were down to about 45 to begin CIC at Ouston. 13 of us from the original two platoons eventually passed out.

Absolutely speechless and in awe the whole way through this. I usually pause stuff to research a place, date, event etc. but in these guys manner of speaking it's all laid on. Jack Higgins described Paratroopers of all countries as having 'a kind of arrogant self-sufficiency' and you certainly get that impression from these men. Simply the best soldiers in the world. Any Ex Paras reading this, I hope you are safe, as secure and happy as you can be and I wish you long years.

I came out in 83 so missed out on all the updated equipment.........LOL....Never got to find out for myself the failings of the SA80 when it first was issued but have heard lots of reports on the groups on facebook about how crap it was and the age old debate on which is better SA80 or SLR........I only ever handled an SLR when I was on basic as I qualified as a combat driver so my personal weapon became the SMG gat gun commonly known as spray and pray stormtrooper special........lol

My first thought about the SA80 was that if a "forward assist" was required then there must be an inherent fault. Second thought was that it was well balanced, comfortable and accurate. Third thought was that it was a good design buggered up by poor, and probably cheap, manufacturing. I later discovered that it was buggered up by politics and interference.

Great watching this, I was a Boy soldier with the Royal Irish Rangers, Auchinleck Platoon training at Ballymena Northern Ireland. The Platoon went over to Germany serving along side the 5th Battalion Royal Irish Rangers. It was a great experience especially walking in the NBC suit. I remember digging in near the river Leine just below Marienburg Castle outside Hannover.

Act 1 is chopped about 10 sec at the end. No basic info. This is the Miller production w Eric Idle. The almost invisible last frame shows 1987. 10K viewers have, I assume, figured that out for themselves.
