Greetings from Northern Italy. Could someone kindly explain to me the reason why in Australia, although automatic coupling is in place, vehicles are equipped with buffers? If I'm not mistaken, in the United States the trains with automatic coupling do not have buffers. And even here in Italy the new light vehicles (railcars, ETRs and similar) which have received automatic coupling since they left the factory, do not have buffers. Thank you very much for your availability and collaboration
@video_mitch9 күн бұрын
Early Australian railways were based on British Railways, including signalling. loading gauge, platform heights, etc. It also included the British screw couplings in some states. (Each state had their own railway systems as well & of course 3 different gauges). In the 1950s-1960s there was a move to the American buckeye couplers, at the same time as steam was being phased out. Hence some historic locos & rolling stock have buffers & screw couplings, or combination screw & auto couplers.
