Please do keep it up. As you get on, it becomes less about camping and just meeting up with friends. My friends and I aim for one trip a month (yes, even in winter) as it forces us to keep a weekend for ourselves, to meet up, catch up and all decompress. Do also make sure to document your adventures, there will come a moment when you see an old photo or video and it will completely change your mood for the day for the better. If I am to ever give advice it is to look after each other, take care and most importantly, have fun.

Told myself I would quit playing video games after high-school, and here I am in my mid 20s still wasting almost every weekend I have. I was thinking of making a video similar to this, but this has way better execution than I could have done. I never really had the social aspect of video games, as I never had an online capable console growing up. When I was young, my dad and I would play Age of Empires a lot and that's what really kicked it off for me. I did make some friends playing r6 siege, and I wouldn't give that experience up for the world. But besides those two things, everything I've done (besides playing the switch with my wife over dinner a couple times a week) has been nothing but wasted time that I'll never be able to get back. I wish I could go back 10 years and tell myself to live a little and that dad is right - you'll regret wasting all this time. I'm happy for the experiences that I've had, and I'm sure that I'll continue to play switch with my wife on occasion, and play some racing games here and there, but there comes a point in most peoples lives where they have to evaluate what their doing. Our days on this planet are numbered, and we're destined for so much more than rotting away in a chair starting at a screen. I'm terrified for the day I have to stand in front of God, give an account of my life, just to tell him I wasted it all doing something that doesn't matter. Where would I be if I focused even 25% of the time I spend playing video games the past 20 years to something that was of value? While there's no point sitting here, regretting what I've done because I can't change it, I'm at the point where I need to "grow up" and make something of myself. We're all here on borrowed time, might as well give it a shot and make it count.
@philbarrish19 күн бұрын
Well said, no point in getting stuck with regret about the past, let it be a kick in the butt to have a blast from now on, and yeah video games in moderation are fire, but as you know and said it’s easy to get sucked into it. You shape your story, live it up 🤝🤙

Your mention of moderation goes against the title, but considering this only has 2.2k views and is this good, you've earned the clickbait. I should preface by saying I lost the first 15 years of my life to what this video describes as video games. Nothing but Apex and Destiny 2 until my parents forced me to go to the Boy Scouts meeting every week. I was totally behind developmentally. Then something changed, I realized I wanted to develop, but I still wanted to play games because the internet was comfortable. To elaborate on the nature of video games, there's usually a tradeoff between skill and story. Games that are hard usually lack story, vice versa. Surprisingly, shooters, like most the games you mentioned here, lack both. They're designed to be as approachable as possible, which means no complex mechanics, no precision, and of course no significant story. I've watched myself and many other people play shooters for years and never get better. I hate shooters with a passion. You get no personal development since after 2,000 hours of overwatch you'll still suck, and you get no emotional development because any interaction you had in that game were just callouts on the enemies team comp, and definitely no emotional development from the story at hand. And, you did mention single-player skill-based games like mario kart, and objectively, being in the 99th percentile in the mario kart community is near as impressive as the 99th percentile for the skateboarding community. In either case, you get personal development, since you're skilled at something. But skateboarding and most in person hobbies are permeated by people and social interaction, circles of people to meet. You can't go to the skate park every day and just meet no one. So in in person hobbies, you meet more people, which leads to more emotional development than if you sat in a room playing mario kart. This leads me to say video games are not inherently bad, though they are indirectly bad because of the opportunity cost of sitting on yo ass inside all day (also, video games tend to reduce the quality and depth of interactions, if they do occur, like in a multiplayer shooter). If only there could be a "video game" that addressed this lack of focus on meeting people. To go back to when "something" changed in me, the "something" that changed was VRChat (ikr gross), which I stumbled upon from a Christmas gift and over a few years I got 3500 hours on. I was lucky, I stayed connected enough in the real world to maintain my social skills. That game caught me up to my peers, if not more. I think the people on that game have has as much of a contribution to my development as my parents have. The people there have introduced me to hobbies, have encouraged me to work towards my goals, have fulfilled emotional needs. Every single social activity you could want is on a social game like VRChat. VR is unique in the ways that it provides ample substitutions for communication of body language, eye contact, and simply presence that no other online platform can have. I think we are both saying a similar thing. Go meet people and make yourself some stories to remember. Your strategy is better, probably. Of course, I do use your strategy, I have friend groups, I go backpacking and have those experiences, but I also really enjoy the internet side of things, and I think there's, in some cases, more consistent value to be had. I can't go make plans with my friends every night, I'm stuck in college and working a job. But I can hop on vr in my spare hour of time and meet someone I'll never forget. Do whatever you want, as long as you are meeting people and interacting genuinely and emotionally with them.
