Welcome to NerdCrave! I have been working on various versions of this idea now for over a decade. I had a website through the 2010s called nerdmovie.com I did mostly movie and TV reviews and wrote articles about major fanbases. I have been published several times on www.nermachine.com writing articles about pop culture icons and franchises. An artist friend and I put together a book that has not been published yet, called the top 100 nerd movies of all time. But today, entering into the 2020's I have so much more to share than just movies and TV. I want to talk about all kinds of things in pop culture, from video games to comic books, and yes, movies and TV. You might think this is unfocused, but I am just a huge nerd, who wants to "nerd out" with all of you over the coolest things I come across, whether collectables or on the silver screen!

I have tested Outrun 2006 for PSP and it works great except it stutters when you reach a split to choose between routes. I was wondering if it's because my system only has 2GB of RAM or if it's just that it is too slow for the game. Have you observed anything similar?
The ram is probably a problem, I have 2 of these with 4 gb and I don’t have that problem with psp, but you may want to check your resolution settings, because psp doesn’t upscale well beyond 480
Sorry for blocking you out of the right lane on the road. Was trying to read your channel on the back of your car. :( Rock on brother
Haha that’s funny!
the terminator 1984 MGM original cardboard box version has this issue. it sucks big time. the original menu is awesome too 😭
Good to know!
Almost all of my 360 games have rotted. But my burnt CDs from the mid 90s all still play. Same storage area too
the ps3 rpgs from end of era of Ps3 life ( 2013- 2017 ) have often still manual ,, it's only AAA and casual shitty game ( callof , fifa , and all these game '' AAA '' who don't had manual at this time , Trails , Tales of xilia ,still had manual ,, but shitty rpg from squarenix don't provided anymore , same ubisoft shitty game , cold steel can be still like a indi game , from their developper point of view , they was niche game that nobody know or talked at this time
the ps3 version unfortunately don't have japanese voice , but now keep sealed version is high price

They won't use DEI anymore. They're going with the BRIDGE.
I think in time we're going to see an utter and complete failure of what makes video games appealing to begin with. The main priority of any video game is to be entertaining. I couldn't care less about DEI or any kind of message that a video game is trying to portray. No video game is going to change my outlook on life or how I should treat other people. I think what is ultimately going to prove that DEI is not needed is when many of these video games that feel the need to force feed you this nonsense will ultimately fail because money talks and when something becomes unprofitable then many of these companies are going to be forced to do what needs to be done in order to be profitable. Sometimes unnecessary sacrifices are going to have to be made to steer the video game industry on a proper course because obviously the DEI isn't working.
Absolutely
I agree with you, DEI is doing the same thing with Movies, TV shows and Comic's.
Yup
I just don't get it. People that actually buy and play games don't want this crap in their games 90% of the time. Women want actual feminine characters. Women are feminine. My black friends all want ORIGINAL non-race swapped black heroes. I think that's a good idea. Instead, we get pronouns, hideous female protags with zero personality and race/gender swaps.
There are conspiracy hypotheses about what it going on. The suggestion is that none of thos has anything to do with actual inclusion or diversity. But even entertaining notions like these are met with rolled eyes. So I won't say what I've heard proposed. But I will say this, it makes much more sense than all these companies suddenly being financially suicidal.
Great video
Thanks!
Awesome! It's rather nostalgic to see a sealed ps3 game being opened. Might have to break out my vita copy and finally finish the game. Good stuff!
Thanks bud, yeah go for it!
Happy to hear you're about to jump in to Trails. It is more than understandable that someone would feel intimidated by this series, as I DEFINITELY was before I started. A couple of years ago I began with SKY First Chapter. Falcom has been hinting that we will be seeing the Sky series remastered soon for current platforms but nothing definitive yet. I have the Lionheart edition but for the Vita. Be very patient with the first Cold Steel, it introduces a lot for quite a while but when things start moving things get interesting and you wont look back. The second Cold Steel game is a masterpiece.....its unbelievable what they stuffed in that one and its a game you must experience. Have a great journey with this, super cool you found this new!
I was really excited to find it!

Bad wolf?
Public domain. Movies we love should be archived and freely available to all after their copyright expires... media should not be lost to time. but this is not ideal for current and future rent seekers. I could see corps further trying claw their royalties to century old media.
Absolutely good point
hopefully your newer videos don't have audio exclusively in the left channel like this one?
Correct, although technical difficulties do exist from time to time lol
I do think there will eventually be a future for physical when something more efficient comes... I personally think there should be a VHS2 that's like a 1TB thumb drive, but is actually not considered piracy to play movies off of. Optical discs just aren't appealing to that many people anymore. The DVD now is as old as the VHS was in 2003.
I agree this could actually be a good and legitimate use for NFTs allowing a digital file to have a unique ownership number that allows people to buy and sell it and move it around
Why would you collect physical media when you can just as easily download onto HDD and make one or more backups that take up no space at all? The physical space, the dust, the need to inventory, the chance of losing your collection if you have a flood, fire or other disaster. What if you have to move, what if you have to move quickly as in SHTF.
Well, there are many pros and cons to both standpoints. I personally do both. I have like 20 TB of downloaded files that I run through a Plex server. I literally have a digital copy of every single DVD I own. I still watch the DVDs and prefer to interact with physical media most of the time.
Once you’ve seen two or three hard drives go down and you lose terabytes worth of stuff in one day you’ll stop trusting hard drives
I think different people find different things cozy. I also feel at home in The Lands Between. It feels like a sort of respite to me, a safe space. And I know I'm not the only one who gets cozy vibes from ER. Idk
That’s absolutely fair but what people don’t seem to understand is that a cosy game is completely different than you feeling cosy in the game. A cosy game is a fairly specific type in genre of game mostly Sim games mostly farming, games animal crossing art games, things of that nature.
@@NerdCrave I get that. But there are some people who play elden ring as pacifists. Just go around picking berries and stuff. There is some beautiful scenery. It's a strange phenomena for a game known to be difficult like ER to have so many people that actually feel safe and cozy playing it. I'm not saying it should be classified or marketed as a 'cozy game' (and it isn't). But it is interesting, no?
Hey man, remember City TV's "Night Drive" and "Night Walk"?...I'd love to find those accidental ASMR from the 80's shows somewhere
I’ve seen some clips of it on KZread I think retro Ontario KZread channel may have some
@@NerdCrave I'll check it out, thanks man 👍
1 reason against physical media: menues
Are you saying you don’t like menus? That’s like the best part of physical media
@@NerdCrave No, who doesn't like waiting for minutes till episode selections craws in sight, only to see an no skipable trailer?
i tell EVERYONE to do this & they think i'm crazy!! it's very annoying--hey! i saved $1,000 in itunes by ILLing international CDs thru my library. over 800 tracks!! i have everything backed up on discs i've made for people or in my server. i figure w/a battery generator one could have music to last a long while; this would be part of control & contact.
They want you to own nothing
I am also the type of guy that likes to have separate dedicated devices to do various thinks. I have a separate watch, alarm clock, game consoles, I don't use my phone to pay for stuff, etc. most everyone likes to use their phone for literally everything, but I don't like to do that.
Me either man, I hate emulating games on my phone, I’d rather bring a 3DS if I need gaming in a small form factor
I sidnt know dvds could rot. Ive been so worried about my vhs tapes rotting
VHS tapes don’t rot per se, but they do get moldy in damp locations, keep them dry
I'm 42 and absolutely love and agree with everything stated here. The most recent tech I use for entertainment is a Samsung S2 8" tablet that I've had for like a decade already and an iPod 160G classic for mp3 music. Also have a CD player in my 2013 Toyota and go thrifting on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I will never ever have a spotify account and still buy physical games as well. I don't do the extra downloads bells and whistles and refuse to subscribe to all these ridiculous services. Physical media will make a comeback when these corporations get so greedy they price out everyone.
Agreed! Check out my latest video put up yesterday to go even further with the topic!
Hmm, honestly, I really just prefer "obtaining" everything and throwing it on a big ole hard drive lol. Price of a VPN and a couple 8+ TB hard drives is gonna win out every time. Can even add a seedbox in there for slightly more $. And you don't use up any space irl. If you like going out and buying this stuff that's cool though. It's an interesting hobby.
i do that as well. i have a plex server feeding me 20+ TB of obtained files lol
The problem with obtaining everything is that little of it has value or is special. At that point it is all disposable. I say this not even from a physical vs digital angle. I have too many physical pieces of media. At some unseen point, it all becomes too much. But, I also have to talk about the physical cs digital angle. There is more to the experience of media than just the core content itself. From going out and buying it, to opening the package, to looking at the artwork. Handling the disc/cassette/cartridge. Touch is a very important aspect for human interaction. That is why car dealerships want you to test drive the cars. Once you've touched it, it creates a feeling of ownership that makes one much more willing to buy. Clicking on a list will never create that form of attachment. Though there is the argument that maybe we should be less attached to our entertainment. Who knows?
Hard drives are unreliable and when they inevitably break, you lose everything.
@@williamwest7008 that's true, but since obtaining all those were free(via a pirates life) to begin with, it's just as simple to get them again in that situation.
You're preaching to the choir, Brother Aaron.
I’ve heard you sing, I believe you
@@NerdCrave Yeah, sorry to have damaged your ears like that!
I never stopped collecting physical media. Books, comics, music, movies, and TV shows are all things I collect physical media for. Especially if I'm able to go to Value Village and pick up some great DVD and VHS finds. I'm glad you mentioned Big Shiny Tunes, because I love those albums. I have Big Shiny Tunes 3 to 8 on CD. Much Dance is another Canada exclusive music series that I enjoy on CD as well. Same with the Now! series.
I have a bunch of now cds!
@@NerdCrave My dad has Now! 3, and I have Now! 7, Now! 11, and Now! 12. So definitely more 2000's music, all of which were on the radio when I was in high school and my year off between high school and college. Big Shiny Tunes 4 is my favourite of all three series of albums. My dad had it on audiotape, and he always played it in the car when he drove me to a summer day camp I went to in my early teens. I eventually got it on CD, but being in the car with my dad, listening to it on audiotape was awesome.
@@tgif1345 that’s awesome!
@@NerdCrave And you're right, you're not gonna find those online. I mean, sure, you can find the songs on iTunes or Spotify from the digital versions of the albums the artists originally recorded them for, but those particular collections? With those particular versions of those songs, as some of them are remixes or special versions not on any other album? Not a chance.
I have all 14 Big Shiny Tunes as well as the 3 spin-off sets - Big Shiny 90's Volumes 1 and 2 and Big Shiny 80's. My wife burned a CD for what she guessed Big Shiny Tunes 15 could have been.
My thing is definitely gaming and I dont like to buy digital only content normally for a variety of reasons. I never really stopped buying physical games or even questioned transitioning away from it as the tangibility of the product means a lot to me. Also, digital only content is worth absolutely nothing monetarily which is a serious problem because it takes money to get or get access to media, so coming out with nothing of note other than a file isnt good since I cant make any decisions with that file other than to delete it or re-download it. A lot of folks spend a lot of money on gaming and other digital content and don't realize or think about how little official worth it has. Theres a lot else to say but I really liked this top 10. Excellent points made all through it and important for everyone to remember. Thanks NC!
Thanks for stopping by. I haven’t heard from you in a while. I absolutely agree about the value of digital products. I actually did get rid of a lot of of my physical media back in the day and I’ve spent the last three or four years reacquiring it. I probably have more now than I ever did.
Are you a music collector? Movies? Games? What brings out the hoarder in you?
Was a movie collector. Now selling all i have before moving to my retirement place in the philippines. I find collecting a terrible material mentality. Especially now where it's not about finding things but just browing ebay and buying.
I love cassettes and cds. Both sound great. And they both are mine.
Me too! New video on this topic coming this week, stay tuned
Got myself 5 broken iMacs from 2007, I fixed 4 and I'm installing Batocera Linux in all of them. 😊
Awesome!
i'm currently trying to install this on a 2012 mac mini but I'm having issues with it booting into the USB drive. I had recently made that mini a linux machine so I'm able to boot off some drives. any tips?
I haven’t tried with the Mac mini. I can’t really offer you any support.
HD-DVDs by Warner Bros. are notoriously bad. I don't think I have any that don't have any rot, and I have been storing them in a temperate living space, away from direct sunlight since I bought them. Really makes me mad, looing back on that time during the format wars. Money wasted. 🔥🔥💵🔥🔥💰🔥🔥💵🔥🔥
Yeah, unfortunately that’s a known issue. HD DVDs are pretty much garbage at this point.
I've only had Disc Rot on Blu-Ray discs and a few cds.
I very rarely comment, however it's nice to know I'm not alone in this thought process. Walking into my "media" room and picking out an album/movie/game to enjoy for the evening is priceless. I'm aware it all comes at a cost, but if you're thrifty and specific enough subscriptions become irrelevant over time. Life's expensive, entertainment doesn't have to be, peace.
Thanks for your comment and you’re absolutely right
Somebody gave me a VCR DVD player I'm so glad I didn't have to pay $200
Nice score!
🤔 I have 253 Porn dvds... I hope they last for an eternity🥺
You are so right. In my case I loved Age of Wonders - Shadow Magic with its nice easy gameplay. Thought I would like AOW4…what a steaming pile of shit. Too complicated.
Never played that one, I’ll have to check it out
Where are the online videos about preserving old newspaper strips and pulp magazines. Virtually none. Why? Generational shifts. Boomers were the last to remember these forms of media. They are expiring. Younger generation don’t care for ancient media. Same with video games. The concept of “preservation” is a Gen X/ Millennial first world problem that game youtubers are creating a narrative around. It’s irrelevant. Especially the physical/digital debate. Younger generations will not have the emotional attachment to games that older generations had. Plain & simple. That’s why modern gaming is preserved to be “bad” by older generations. The people who are supporting a false narrative of “game preservation” are being influenced and riding a bandwagon.
I used to back-up my rental videos, after 20 plus years I went back to them and was surprised that all of them, so far still work..maybe the dvd-r's were of better quality in early 2000's?
I'm building my own streaming service via a media server!
I’ve got about 24TB of tv and movies running in a Plex server
This is great information I wanted to built a collection in case I have no net but I also don't want to have everything everywhere. So I cant decide if I should stay digital or both. also the houses here in Texas during summer oh boy I try to hide everything in the shade including my guitars and stuff.
As long as the value is there subscriptions are good for consumers. Call Of Duty coming to Game Pass is fantastic for people who love that franchise. But they also get hundreds of other games included you can't argue that's not a good value. And you can still buy the games if you want to separately.
Absolutely
Dist Rot is really called dist wears and tears. Dist can last a long time if you don't use them. If you use them, the laser in your bluray players, computers, and Game consoles will burn through the dist causing it to wears and tears. If you use it a lot, it will eventually be unplayable. But don't worry, it take years of wears and tears for the dist to be unplayable.
Incorrect. Disc Rot is different than wear and tear. Both can lean to the disc becoming inoperable, but rot is the result of chemical breakdown of the adhesives in the disc allowing for oxidation of the foil layer. It can happen to a factory sealed disc that has never been played and has never experienced wear and tear. (This is rare, but it happens)
Wrong. You have no clue what you're are talking about! Disc arn't became broken by being used, none Electronic are! That's who mekanic things like works. Admit you're wrong!
