Although the video quality is variable this is a memorable performance to experience. Fortunately the audio compensates for this to a large degree. A personal preference of mine would to be to have the more Italianate instrument of Siepi for Padre GUardiano. Christoff has a unique timbre which one can recognize almost immediately on recordings & IMO is the overall greater artist for most bass repertoire but must bow to Siepi, vocally, in this role anyway. No question in my mind who was the greater King Philip of the two in terms of expression & characterization but in regards to certain cantante roles, like this one, I prefer the Siepi instrument.

Esta persona, aparte de ser un maestro entre los maestros en el canto, es increíble como expresa su pensamiento sobre otro tipo de música. Puedo decir que si era extraordinario como tenor, como persona era sencillamente encantador. Yo tuve la suerte de cantar en el coro del teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla en Lucía di Lammermour y además, en los ensayos tuvmos la oportunidad de charlar de vez en cuando e incluso llegamos a tener cierta amistad. Precioso el recuerdo que tengo de eso

A un tenor de cierto renombre, y estando en activo, alguien le preguntó por el mejor tenor. Dijo que daría tres nombres: Kraus, como ligero; Bergonzi, como lírico y Corelli como dramático. Los tres, fallecidos cuando se le preguntó.
