I like the way they call CCA-treated wood "safe for humans and for the environment". The obvious question for those who can't use CCA anymore is how permanent basements made with ACQ or some other still accepted preservative, will be. Will they last as long as the basements built when this clip, which looks more 1970s than 1980s (note the Ford Granada and the mostly tube TV at the end), was made?

I've never understood the part about working from the bottom up. That means that as you move up, the dirt from above streams over the clean siding below, so you'll have to re-rinse the lower parts each time you move up. (to avoid any dirt from drying on). Shell needs to explain why you would want to work up. What am I missing?

Ouf.. reading the comments.. it's one thing to give your opinion but no need to be rude. Personally I live in an old 1885 house in Quebec and do this on the hotter summer days.. it work for me. The basement cools the 2 floors and I'm not worried about the air quality (with Merv8 filters on) any more than I am in the winter when I use the (wood/electric) furnace for heat.

Thank you for making this video. It was very helpful in silencing a squeaky floor we had. Before seeing this the screws were twisting loose the fibers. One thing that helped too was to wrap the tape backwards (counterclockwise when looking at the head first).

Hi Shell. I'm Tony your former barber. (I haven't cut hair since 2022 due to my health). I hope you're doing well, Shell. I still remember that first day you sat in my barber chair and asked for a haircut. As you spoke and I started cutting, I quickly noticed that your voice sounded very familiar to me. So I said something like, 'Hey did you know that your voice sounds a lot like the guy I hear on the Radio named, Shell Busey?'. And you responded saying, "I certainly hope so 'cause I am". Lol that's something I'll always remember :)

Lacquer thinner will remove it from the mirror or from a window but it is a very strong substance hard on your hands will probably melt rubber gloves but I'm not sure. But it will definitely take the hairspray off. We got some off that was on a window right behind where you spray and it was in bad shape. I used paper towel and fairly wet with Lacquer thinner and rubbed and refolded and rubbed and it took it all off. This will damage paint probably and walls and anything else so keep it only on the glass. Wash well with soap and water when finished then you can clean your glass or window.

Anyone that uses this type of system as their primary below grade waterproofing is a fool. You do not know what you are talking about. First it takes a VERY SIGNIFICANT crack ( not typical cracks) for properly applied quality waterproofing to leak. Drainage board is great when used with proper waterproofing. As a primary waterproofing ,drainage board is garbage. First of all it relies on sealant to seal the laps. A very weak system. Second of all because it is non adhered any small damage anywhere in the system means the entire system fails. It also relies 100% on the drainage tile. Any problem with the drainage tile or if it gets overwhelmed ,drainage board fails. We have used drainage board in the waterproofing industry for decades BUT NEVER AS PRIMARY WATERPROOFING. ONLY THE VERY CHEAPEST OF CONTRACTORS WOULD USE THIS AS PRIMARY WATERPROOFING. And only someone with no knowledge of waterproofing would recommend it. But leave to the home building industry to cut out the actual waterproofing. And instead use what the waterproofing industry uses as “ protection “ for real waterproofing. The same industry that routinely uses the lowest quality sealants possible on the exterior envelope.

I can't really do anything more about the smell. I use fans to exhaust air out of my apartment, I bought outlet plugs and I use incense. But at least reading the comments it's nice to know I'm not the only one who is dealing with this and that some people even have it worse than I do. I wish I could move, but the price of rent in my area has doubled and even if I could move there wouldn't be any guarantee that I won't have the exact same problem. There are just too many people on stacked on top on each other, literally. People aren't considerate of others. My last neighbor played loud music all night, the other neighbor bought a cat then lets it roam around, it killed a couple of my plants and destroyed the screen on my door. This neighbor smokes. I just want to be left alone.

Yes, I moved here a year ago. It is disgusting the landlord had us here first 2:12 and the neighbor so she moved in next-door smoke weed. It is disgusting I suffer from sinus disease. I have complained in the beginning of the year that she needs to tell them to stop smoking it has not stopped. It’s become a joke. I cannot find another place because I don’t have the funds to pick up and go. We spent a lot of money moving to this place and she has no consideration. She is worse than a smoker. it’s disgusting. She is not a professional not only that my children are non-smokers, and I were forced to breed this garbage

Weird question. I have an old basement with no vapor barrier on exterior. I live in CT US climate area. I have done this test on multiple occasions and I have never seen any moisture or condensate, even when leaving plastic wrap on surface for an entire week. How is this even possible in absense of exterior vapor barrier under slab?

Not sure what you are smoking but it must be good stuff ! Maybe in California your comment might fly but in the true north it doesn't hold water. All the exhaust pipes I have ever seen have been a flexible plastic expandable pipe that is not insulated. If your attic is cold in the fall and winter like it should be if your insulation is working properly and the discharge pipe is above the insulation, then guess what ? The warm moist air will cause condensation which will change to water droplets and eventually run back to the lowest point . the bathroom fan. Which might block air but are not made to stop water from running through ! Time to smell the roses !
