I have put 8,000 miles on my SCL 500 since I have purchased it last July 2023 here in Southern Nevada and I love it. I am a new rider (started at the age of 51) and have been able to become a better rider with this bike. It is a joy to ride and it is light for when I want to push it around the garage. I have driven it on I-15 and all around Las Vegas. It is so much fun to ride in Lake Mead National Wildlife Refuge. I have added the back rack, shock cover, higher seat, 12 V charger, side bag, and heated grips. I get 70 MPG on it and I like hypermiling with it. It does top out at 85 MPH on the interstate and that small 471cc motor is screaming but it was very affordable and approachable as a new rider.

Morning Bryan, really good to hear from you and your experiences and modifications on the (S)CL 500. You're right - it's a total joy to ride and as you say, its nature means you can learn how motorcycles behave and therefore become a better rider. I was in Las Vegas a few years back and rented a bike for the day (from some place off-strip behind The Luxor I think?). I had a great time visiting Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead / Hoover Dam etc and riding down the strip at dusk was like being in a movie. So I can well imagine what the SCL is like around there. I hear you've had some incredible heat though recently - so sty cool and ride safe Bryan, all the best, cheers, Phil.

Following more surgery last year, and I can now ride a bike with normal foot pegs (with a bit of difficulty) so I’ve bought a 300L Rally AND an old Guzzi V7 Stornello and it’s a beauty!! I wrote somthing yesterday but I must have not hit the blue button <) This is a wonderful clip ..I love seeing the bridge the English came over and.the ride sets the stage for finding the field .All of the land around there is so beauyiful for such a moment in time .. As a young person I learned the tune first on bagpipes and wanted to see how it sounded on clawhammer banjo ..Thank you for thinking of me when you put this together ... .The Flowers Of The Forest were James the 4's personal bodyguards .. From the Net : The archers of Ettrick Forest earned the epithet "Flowers of the Forest" at the Battle of Falkirk in 1298, and formed the bodyguard of King James IV at Flodden, where their corpses were found surrounding their dead monarch..

Hey Guy, so good to hear from you! You have a blue button? Ours is a sort of nondescript grey! Thank you ever so much for your comments and of course for the use of your beautiful version of "Flowers of the Forest" I have to make an admission though - I've heard the lament many times on the pipes and to be honest, I find the pipes rather erm, 'discordant' to my ears - but then again I am a lowland English person so it's probably to be expected! Your version on clawhammer is the one that I think really captures the essence of what a lament should be. It's glorious, with so much subtle pathos and beauty. I didn't know it was about the archers specifically which I think lends even more context from the perspective of loyalty, kinship and bravery. You will have noticed I didn't mention who won / lost as actually, everyone did. I don't normally visit battlefields as it makes me uncomfortable, however, I think seeing the fields in 2024 and imagining what they were like in 1513 is a relevant way of exploring how insane war is, without being overtly political or opinionated. Thanks again Guy - I'll be visiting some of the castles later on this year! Cheers, Phil.

I have bad knees. Had surgery on both but ended up nearly leaving this mortal coil following infection and a dance with sepsis. That was a little while ago, but one knee has limited range compared to the other. Anyway. Long story short. I can about manage 90 degree angle( with some discomfort ) but anything which pushes my legs back beyond a “ sitting at the dining table position “ causes issues. The answer ? As a man who has had his fair share of sports bikes. And a couple of big GS, I am shocked to report that I have discovered Harleys. Specifically , the Low rider S. It has mid controls so I am not all legs out forward. My legs are below me in a sensible position. It’s fast. It’s has torque. It even handles well. It has its weight down low. I am astounded. Should have got one earlier. Check them out.

Good morning Mr. Fandango and very good to hear from you again. Well, I know full well that “90 degree” situation and I too was looking at bikes with mid-mounted controls last year and I did like the look of the Indian Scout…The latest surgery worked though so I’m back on (lighter weight) bikes for the moment. As you say though - what does it matter what it is? It’s two wheels, fast, goes round corners…I found the same with my scooter although it’s not as fast of course! When the time comes (and it will) cruisers will be back on the list. Well, safe and comfortable riding! All the best, Phil.
