You cannot mention Brian Clough without the caveat of Peter Taylor. Clough was half the manager without Taylor.

This was the last good England friendly. This was also rooneys last brilliant England game. It’s been 19 years since we’ve had a player like rooney, when he got the ball the crowd were off their seats much like Michael Owen and gazza did before. Such a shame that rooney reached his England peak at the age of 19

I've supported MUFC since the 1970s and remember Clough being the caliber of manager I wished we had. MUFC were in the doldrums. We got something from Clough though. Roy Keane. I do not think MUFC would have achieved quite as much as they did without Roy Keane, who credited Clough with so much of what made Roy Keane the player he was. P.S Losing was the first of City's 115 punishments.

when I was about 10 years old I was at Old Trafford with my dad watching a Youth Cup game (Scholes, Beckham etc) we spotted Brian Clough in the stands with the fans watching and my dad was urging me to go and ask for his autograph. I was a little scared as he had recently clipped a fan around the ear for pitch invading. I approached him and he sat me on his knee and started talking me through the game, asking me who my favourite players were etc. True gentleman. Shame there were no camera phones in those days

Easy to get romantic and high on language. Everyone here knew he had alcohol issues. How many ever confronted him with it. Very few if any I imagine. One eyed friendship. His last few interviews were tragic. Peter Taylor was best out of it.

It’s wild that a coach and manager/Acquisitions partnership did not become the model in Football after such success?? It’s the norm in North American sports. I do like the status quo in the game of football, but I find it very odd that both responsibilities officially reside with the person who is coaching the team.

Clough's point about Leeds was valid, he'd say they were a brilliant team with brilliant players so why do they act like thugs kicking the shit out of people and he blamed Revie for that

Cough and Taylor would have been a brilliant team for England. They won the league title with a totally unfashionable team with Derby. Had the FA gone with Clough/Taylor instead of Don Revie, England would have been a much better outfit in the 1970’s.

Clough would have won things for Leeds but the old guard were too loyal to Revie. Leeds loss, Nottingham Forest's gain. Love Leeds. I had massive respect for Brian.

Yes even as a Liverpool fan I have to say he was a great character. People like Gerard and Lampard needed to study him more. Both I respect. But really here is a perfect example start low but expect the best from your players at all levels.

he was honest. prior to managing leeds, if he had been beaten by them or had a rivalry which was poor for him - ib say hes wrong. his love for the game was unmatched and he was as honest. he was 100% real, himself. just like Jose Mourinho

Sir Geoffrey the Judas Yorkshireman who is a Scumchester Utd supporter points out Clough said the players he took over were too old . The same players got Leeds to the European Cup final ( Champions League final ) that season after Clough left . As a Leeds fan i would say Clough was one of the best managers England has ever seen , no doubt about that but if he had been a bit cleverer, once he decided to take the Leeds job he should have put his personal prejudices out of it as it's so unprofessional and amateurish to allow those to affect his relationship with his players.

Nowhere near the greatest by any means in my book. Firstly, he could never maintain any success. He won things but he never won them again year after year after year and secondly he didn't achieve anything on his own, it was all with Peter Taylor and when Taylor left all he did o note was relegate Forest. Not fit to tie Guardiola's shoelaces and DEFINITELY not fit to kiss Alex Ferguson's shoes
