Same noise on mine…..i suspected a vacuum loss, sprayed a touch of silicone in vacuum control valve to test my suspicions. Noise went away. As a result I changed the vacuum control valve and hub vacuum solenoid for good measure. I suspect only the $10 control valve was the issue btw. Fixed. Part number Motorcraft YG429. You are welcome.

Lake water or tap water works. You can’t even tell it’s lake water when it’s running though. If you think about it, it’s no different than getting splashed in the face, except the misters have a filter.

I have a 2016 ford f-150 with the 5.0 with the 6R80 in it. Has 212,000 miles on it. Mine started doing this when it hit the 200,000 mark. On the upshift from 3rd to 4th it’s doing it and also on the down shift when passing someone it does it louder. I took it to transmission shop and they put a new torque converter in it and it didn’t do it for a couple thousand miles than started doing it again. So I have a warranty on it from them now so took it back and there saying thrust washers and bearings. Hadn’t got it back yet but will let y’all know if it fixes the problem

I have the same btw in my 2016 5.0 appeared after 200k km (124,000 miles) car is doing it for 6 month now daily drive. Not really going to affect anything except the annoying sound upshift and downshift between 3 and 4. And a slight shock

My 2014 eco boost is doing it between 3-4 as well. During upshift and downshift. If I let off the gas slightly before the shift it doesn’t make the noise. Did you figure yours out? The friction additive did not work for me and the Ford dealer said I needed a new Tranny for $5000! They told me that over a year ago, but it is still going.

@@floater81floats37 yes, mine had that issue and I had the Ford dealer fix it. They put in the foam padding insert to the tune of $400. That’s when my truck started the hard shift sqwuak issue about a week later. I figured it was something they did. I told them about it and said I never had a problem until they worked on it. Of course they didn’t admit it was their fault and said they’d be happy to replace my transmission for 5k! I told them I’d drive it until it totally went out.

mine is at tranny shop been pulled 2 times after overhaul to try to fix this i paid for over haul and now its his turn to fix this has had 2 valve bodies and different clutches trying 9l3z7b164e clutches from a TSB for a 2015 f150 on tuesday 🤦🏼 im so done with this truck not right since march

Very good thread young man. The 6R80 is also prone for the E-Clutch drum cracking and causing 4-5-6 issues. We rebuild these units all the time. Currently I am doing a Raptor with this squawk concern. In addition to all of that the stator bushings that ride on the E-clutch drum were made of weak material. Sonnax has developed new bushings made of a better material to address that.

I just recently had my truck in for the second time on this same exact issue. First go around they did what the TSB suggested as well as new fluids and so on. Made it almost 2 years and 56K miles and then it began to do it again, more frequently this second time around, too. I luckily have a warranty and this time a complete Ford reman trans was put in…..only to have the noise happen on the way home from picking my truck up. We are now looking into maybe being a driveshaft noise from lack of proper lubrication (similar scenario on when it happens and common as well). For those struggling to replicate the noise, these were the conditions I found to make replication easiest: Make sure you’re at operating temps (trans temp is 180° or higher). Get it into 5th and in between 36-45mph. Give enough acceleration to cause the 5-3 downshift, but not so much that it’s a hard acceleration. Do it in a way like you’re going to pass someone in town and not like a ricer fly-by on a 2 lane county road. Should be able to replicate it as much as needed for a tech to hear it.

Same problem here.....2015 F150 FX4. First time to the dealer they found a small leak from the water pump and thought it was saturating a belt and causing this sound....no luck. Second time I took it in with video i captured of the noise in my truck and this TSB....they replaced all internals of the trans and flushed everything. Still doing it and even more so now. Rode with a mechanic yesterday and they think this noise is coming from IWE system. Im not convinced of that but I will say that the noise is louder when I go to 4H. Same scenario though....40 mph. 5th gear dropping to 3rd. It makes this noise almost every time.

@Floater81 Floats I bought the truck with no fourth fifth or sixth I had a broken shaft so I pulled the tranny had a rebuilt installed and it had this noise...... tranny shop is working with me and it’s been out two more times by them ..... different fluid friction additive different valve body all different clutches Nothing so far has worked truck has not been driven regularly since end of march 🤦🏼

@@roosted801 unfortunately the transmission had to be rebuilt! Only 7k on the truck when it started. The dealer rebuilt it and put in an additive in the transmission fluid I have 27k on it now and it hasn't came back

I have a 2014 F150 built in November of 2014... do you think they will honor SSM 46494 as stated in your description? I do not want them to try and band aid it with a bullshit additive. If they can’t get it to stop I’ll clearly have to go higher up to get my truck accepted into the SSM

Update, showed your video to the Ford Dealership. They said they will only repair if they can get it to happen... sucks because it’s random. But added they can’t guarantee any out of pocket expense. It does it a lot when it’s cold and snowy or really slippery. Other than that I can’t get it to do it. The good news is they said it should be covered by the 60,000 mile power train warranty that comes with the truck. So that’s good, just hope I don’t get screwed during this process.

Yeah, I used some weather stripping from the local hardware store and sandwhiched it between the speaker and hull. Make sure to use stainless hardware!

+John Schwall I cut the holes myself with a cutting drill bit and a drimmel tool. I used a vacuum to keep the cuttings out of the hull, but be careful because the air moving over the hole might cause the hull to catch on fire while cutting it.

Made it almost 2 years and 56K miles and then it began to do it again, more frequently this second time around, too. I luckily have a warranty and this time a complete Ford reman trans was put in…..only to have the noise happen on the way home from picking my truck up. We are now looking into maybe being a driveshaft noise from lack of proper lubrication (similar scenario on when it happens and common as well). For those struggling to replicate the noise, these were the conditions I found to make replication easiest: Make sure you’re at operating temps (trans temp is 180° or higher). Get it into 5th and in between 36-45mph. Give enough acceleration to cause the 5-3 downshift, but not so much that it’s a hard acceleration. Do it in a way like you’re going to pass someone in town and not like a ricer fly-by on a 2 lane county road. Should be able to replicate it as much as needed for a tech to hear it.
Same problem here.....2015 F150 FX4. First time to the dealer they found a small leak from the water pump and thought it was saturating a belt and causing this sound....no luck. Second time I took it in with video i captured of the noise in my truck and this TSB....they replaced all internals of the trans and flushed everything. Still doing it and even more so now. Rode with a mechanic yesterday and they think this noise is coming from IWE system. Im not convinced of that but I will say that the noise is louder when I go to 4H. Same scenario though....40 mph. 5th gear dropping to 3rd. It makes this noise almost every time.
I have the same issue. It occurs at about 40mph while accelerating up a slight incline. Has anyone been able to get this problem diagnosed and fixed?

@@roosted801 ive drained and filled the transmission a couple times since then and i rarely hear it. I hear it once in a while when im on a long road trip towing my trailer
@Floater81 Floats I bought the truck with no fourth fifth or sixth I had a broken shaft so I pulled the tranny had a rebuilt installed and it had this noise...... tranny shop is working with me and it’s been out two more times by them ..... different fluid friction additive different valve body all different clutches Nothing so far has worked truck has not been driven regularly since end of march 🤦🏼
What is the solution?

@@roosted801 unfortunately the transmission had to be rebuilt! Only 7k on the truck when it started. The dealer rebuilt it and put in an additive in the transmission fluid I have 27k on it now and it hasn't came back
thanks trying to see if someone has a fix just had it rebuilt and tranny shop has pulled it 2 times trying to fix still not fixed

I have a 2014 F150 built in November of 2014... do you think they will honor SSM 46494 as stated in your description? I do not want them to try and band aid it with a bullshit additive. If they can’t get it to stop I’ll clearly have to go higher up to get my truck accepted into the SSM

Any follow up to this issue , or different results? This started on my 2015 v8 @ 35000 miles then went away. Now @ 41,000 and it’s starting to do it often. Dealership claims to never have heard of the problem.

Update, showed your video to the Ford Dealership. They said they will only repair if they can get it to happen... sucks because it’s random. But added they can’t guarantee any out of pocket expense. It does it a lot when it’s cold and snowy or really slippery. Other than that I can’t get it to do it. The good news is they said it should be covered by the 60,000 mile power train warranty that comes with the truck. So that’s good, just hope I don’t get screwed during this process.

Had the XL16 added to it, still making this noise. It's going back so they can try to make the noise for them selves god only knows what they can do to fix it.

Fortino Pina all I did was lock out 6th gear (overdrive off). Then I went to accelerate and it downshifts from 5th gear to 3rd.

I have the same problem. They are replacing the planetary gears as of today. If I remember I will come back and let you know if this was the solution.
Did not fix the problem. Ford has had the truck a full week so far.
Ford added an Xl-16 additive to the transmission fluid. It runs perfect now.
Had the same problem, Ford added same fluid. Fixed it for a month. The fluid additive is a bandaid fix
Same thing happened to me. I thought it was fixed and about a month after I made this post had to take it back for another injection of this additive.

Yeah, I used some weather stripping from the local hardware store and sandwhiched it between the speaker and hull. Make sure to use stainless hardware!
I don't have the s3 hull. I have the wake 155. I wish the guy would have broken down the payments for me and I would have gone with the 215. maybe next time. now to get someone to cut the holes for me.
+John Schwall I cut the holes myself with a cutting drill bit and a drimmel tool. I used a vacuum to keep the cuttings out of the hull, but be careful because the air moving over the hole might cause the hull to catch on fire while cutting it.
I got all these components installed the other day. not that impressed with the loudness. do you think the 100.2 vs the 50.2 would make much of a difference?
