    What is the advantage of going greaseless?

  • @MassiveOverkill
    @MassiveOverkillКүн бұрын

    You'll realize immediately the first time you service your sheave and kill 10 trees from the paper towels you use to clean out the old grease. Initially, greaseless was for U-boat commanders who swamped their units and couldn't go anywhere because water got in the CVT box and displaced the grease all over everything. Guys would go greaseless (in the primary sheave, which isn't sealed) so if they got water in the belt box they could just drain the box, spin up the sheaves dry and enjoy the rest of their ride.

    Perfect timing! I literally just ordered this and it gets delivered today haha. I have a brand new leftover 23 RMAX2 XTR and I figured it would be a good time to install them with only 40 miles on the machine. I'm interested to see how much it will increase the longevity of the rear axles and diff compared to machines without it.

    3500 and I'll have 4K before the end of July. What's an RMAX? Seriously, I love our RMAX but the YXZ is so much more fun, gets better gas mileage, is easier to work on, handles like a dream, is more comfortable, rides smoother with suspension properly-adjusted, and the most important thing is that the wife likes it better.

    I'll bet that is way steeper than it looks. A good test. I had a 2016 5-speed sequential with the 70/30 mod and Rekluse auto clutch. The motor RPM sounds about the same. The most important mod I did was to have the suspension re-valved (twice). Still not as plush as a Polaris, but I didn't get that RZR Rolly-Polly feeling, either.

    Just wondering if there is anything you miss about your RMAX? I am interested in getting one, but now the two channels I was watching both traded there RMAX in on a YXZ?. I live on a farm in central MN. Kinda need a plow and the dump bed would come in handy a few times a year. Please advise. Thanks!

  • @MassiveOverkill
    @MassiveOverkill13 күн бұрын

    So winter hasn't come yet. Yamaha never intended the YXZ to plow snow nor do work. That being said even before the new low 1st gear, guys were putting plows on their older model YXZs as well as aftermarket hitches. Once the RMAX is sold I will install a poly plow to keep weight down and put a hitch on. I will also install a rear hitch but do more trips with smaller loads just to be safe. 'Handy a few times a year'...................If you used it daily for farm chores that would be one thing but "a few times a year'. Hopefully I will have my YXZ configured to do work when the time comes and hopefully prove or disprove its viability doing minimal work. Right now I'm working on a roof rack so I can carry EVERYTHING I used to in the RMAX for camping. That's really important to me and I don't want to tow something behind me like some do.

    Just did the service on my 24. Decided to go the route of pulling the diff. Other than the parking brake being a bit of a fight it was relatively easy. shaft comes right out the back once the diff is removed. I did decide to zip tie the boots to stop the grease from coming out. Will update if the zip tie mod causes any issues.

  • @MassiveOverkill

    I just bought a never used 2917 YXZ and love it. Great trail machine, decent in the mud but very poor with rock crawling, which is ok because that is the least of my riding by far.

  • @stefanc2242
    @stefanc224220 күн бұрын

    Looks like you've owned an Rmax and YXZ. How do they compare for trail riding? I have a YXZ and the suspension is a little stiff but fairly comfortable. The motor isn't too loud and the power is good if you rev it out. How is the comfort of the Rmax and power compared to the YXZ, for trails that is. I may look into a 4 seater Rmax next year and trade in the YXZ. Thanks!

  • @MassiveOverkill
    @MassiveOverkill20 күн бұрын

    The YXZ is much more comfortable to me and my wife than our RMAX4. I have all 4 shocks on my YXZ set with high speed compression damping set to full soft and rear spring preload set to max but left crossover springs in stock position. When I go on a SAR call, I take the YXZ to HQ and jump into one of our Law Loan RMAX4's and I have to really adjust to the RMAX's left foot rest, which isn't as generous as the YXZ's, and then get used to the upright seating position. Finally the CVT, while great for going smooth and slow for when we have the patient loaded, is simply boring compared to the YXZ. You will certainly miss the YXZ as a driver and the RMAX simply isn't as exciting, but the RMAX isn't going to taunt you to mash the throttle. The RMAX's ride is probably better at slow speeds but the YXZ's suspension is superior at anything more than crawling. If you need the RMAX4 for extra passengers, I guess the point is moot, but I urge you to test drive a 2024 YXZ before making the switch. I have no issues with storage with my YXZ, I just have to get more creative.

    @@MassiveOverkill Thanks for the info. I have a '23 YXZ three pedal leftover I just bought a month ago. I have my high and low speed all the way out and I run 30-40mph on trails. I think the RMAX is louder than the YXZ, even with 23 gram weights in my RMAX4. Heat in cab isn't bad at all stock but once you start adding windshield and enclosures it can get warm. Vented windshield is recommended.

    Just did oil change on my 2022 limited rmax4. The manual states when checking the oil, engine should be at normal operating temp and oil 140 degrees. I noticed when the oil is warm and in the middle of the dip stick checkered range it will rise to top when oil temp gets to 130-140 degrees. Is that what your seeing. If oil is refilled to anymore than half way up the checkered dip stick with cool or warm oil once hot it will be overfilled. I did exactly 4.5 quarts and 8 oz of engine butter. That put me right at the top of the full mark when warm.

  • @MassiveOverkill
    @MassiveOverkillАй бұрын

    Yes, it is. It will show over full if you let it get too hot and under full if it's too cold. Simply go with your instincts though........if you know you put in the proper amount of oil, don't add more simply because the dipstick isn't to the full mark.
