  Andrew, you are were fortunate to have attended this. I've had a video of the entire concert since a few days after this performance, and I keep intending to upload more of it but never find the time to do so. I don't remember who filmed this, but a few copies were made and, since Stepan was staying with me in Toronto at the time, I was given one. If you haven't yet watched him play "Hiroshima" I recommend it; possibly his best performance of this piece.

  W sposób ilustracyjny pokazuje technikami gitarowymi doprowadzonymi do końca tragizm tego tragicznego wydarzenia ludzkości. Odkrywa nowe brzmienia gitary, które niezwykle sugestywnie przedstawiają nam tragizm wojny! Tego nie da się pokazać okrągłym, pięknym klasycznym dźwiękiem gitary! A Stepan Rak to potrafi też ! Geniusz muzyczny. Przekazujący różne odcienie i uczucć ludzkiej duszy dźwiekami! Ekstremalny wirtuoz! Oryginalny kompozytor i jednocześnie człowiek o wspaniałej osobowości!

  In an illustrative way, he shows the tragedy of this tragic event of humanity with guitar techniques brought to an end. He discovers new guitar sounds that very suggestively present us the tragedy of war! This cannot be shown with a round, beautiful classic guitar sound! And Stepan Rak can do it too! A musical genius. Transmitting different shades and feelings of the human soul with sounds! Extreme virtuoso! An original composer and at the same time a man with a great personality!

  To jest muzyka współczesna! Styl jedyny i niepowtarzalny Stepana Raka. Linia z kompozycji w stylu jego kompozycji pod tytułem "Ostatnia Dyskoteka". Oryginalny i z niczym nieporówny kompozytor pokazujący w swoich możliwości gitary jako instumentu solowego ."Ostatnią Dyskotekę" zagrał podczas recitalu na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Gitarowym w Kielcach genialnie uzdolniony mój uczeń od II klasy Szkoły Podtawowej i od III klasy Krzysztof Więcław z Krakowa laureat wielu konkursów: Strzelce Krajeńskie, Kutna Hora... Był wtedy uczniem II klasy w Liceum Muzycznym w Krakowie! Wcześniej ukończył gitarę w mojej klasie - Zespół Szkół Muzycznych im.Mieczysława Karłowicza - Kraków Nowa Huta.

  This is contemporary music! Stepan Rak's one and only style. A line from a composition in the style of his composition entitled "The Last Disco". An original and incomparable composer, showing the guitar as a solo instrument in its capabilities, "Last Discotheque" was played during a recital at the International Guitar Competition in Kielce by my brilliantly talented student from the second grade of Primary School and from the third grade Krzysztof Więcław from Krakow, laureate of many competitions: Strzelce Krajeńskie , Kutna Hora... He was a second-grade student at the Music High School in Krakow at the time! Earlier, he graduated from the guitar class in my class - Mieczysław Karłowicz Music School Complex - Kraków Nowa Huta.   He makes it sounds like a “Biwa” instrument. Biwa was often played by the Buddhist monk.

  Thank you for your comment. I had never heard of a "Biwa" until now, but after listening to recordings of this instrument on KZread I have to agree with you. I have no doubt that Stepan's intention was to evoke the sound of the Biwa in certain sections of Hiroshima.

  I suppose this is a take-off on some Asian instrumental music, a genre of being a musical narrative, 'telling a story.' I found it pretty awful, and not in the 'awful' way of the import of the event of Hiroshima, just musically not at all successful.

  Thank you for your comments. I have heard this performed several times in concert and have watched this particular video repeatedly, and yet I still find this piece to be truly remarkable.

  This must be technically a very difficult piece. I also play and compose Spanish style guitar music.   This is one of Stepan Rak's own compositions and, as many of his works, it remains unpublished, which is unfortunate for such a great guitar piece.
