This channel is about surfboards. Everything that has to do with surfboards, and all the ancillary trappings that flow from surfboards. Be it shaping, technology, collecting, painting, shredding, cruising or any thing else. Nothing defines the surfer more than his (or her) surfboard. So much more than a tool, the surfboard is the philosophical icon, a sacred craft, a culturally pervasive symbol of freedom, adventure and enduring youth.
My name is Scott Bass and I am the former Online Editorial Director at SURFER Magazine. I currently produce The Boardroom International Surfboard Show (formerly Sacred Craft) each year. I can totally relate to so much of what was said here and Christian Beamish has such a way of describing all of this. His way of putting things into perspective is where its at in my book!! Thanks Boardroom Surf Show and Christian Beamish for being so inclusive to us out here. Cheers!!
Body weight divided by 6 = pro level volume. Add a few liters depending upon fitness and ability and intended board type.
I was in the “shortboard and rip” camp for so long. It was life changing to get on a 6’7” CI TPH single. Just slowed me down, made me realize the importance of foot placement and line selection. The ease of paddle in and the glide. I’m now firmly in the “ ride everything “ camp, and having a proper board and fin quiver. When the intended attitude matches with board and conditions, it’s a whole new dimension and experience. My recommendation to everyone is play and have fun. Buy used boards and experiment.
Matt - I’ve created a ramped interchangeable kick tail (RIKT) system for surfboards. Chris Ward says “A RIKT is the best traction pad and kick tail ever made. Supercharges my surfing.” kzread.info/dash/bejne/iX2WurlyksXVo9o.htmlsi=dY0SKFfSNEyXZfg2 It’s clear you’re on the lookout for how to improve the performance of the boards you shape. A RIKT does exactly that. Would love to show you one in person.
The question should be - was Dora right about the blacks ?
I love in gods hands
Good spot about Wil. Too bad most of his knowledge is all but lost (no pun), just left to the interpretation of fans of the twinzer. Only those who have ridden an original Jobson will ever know.
I can only hear this on one side of my headphones.its like that on alot of you stuff.
It's amazing how many different designs that all work so many factors and variations on the theme.

Great interview with Matt. Definitely one of the early proponents of computer pre shapes along with Arakawa. Matt definitely has his thumb on the pulse of young rippers

Christian's a great storyteller. I have enjoyed his words since reading an article of his in Surfers Journal, the one with the lighthouse. also his book, Voyage of the Cormorant is a fine read. Love his channeled board designs.

Does it have a swastika burned in the tail, a fixture of Pacific System Homes boards? Asking for a friend.

What did it sell for?
Shout out to JB! 1987 (?) Malibu...you paddled up to me as I was spinning on the shoulder fixin' to take off on a perfect head-high Malibu peeler when I heard that always polite Jamie Jedi voice "Hey Ken do you mind if I take this one?" but in my head I heard "These aren't the waves you"re looking for" Next thing I remember I was surfing left through the boneyard...Of all the waves I've surfed over the past 50 years it's that one Malibu right I gladly gave away (You heavily schralped it BTW) that I will always remember. You still have the 'Voice'. (Val Woodland Hills Crew.)
Classic story @nupazone! Thanks for sharing! 🏄
Imagine for a moment living for surfing love it . but living in town (Tampa) that has basically no waves .the torture of watching so cal waves and people not knowing how lucky they are..
@KooKaRoach727 Totally get you! Hang in there! 🌊🏄♂️
These guys were in my Sunshine Coast world of surfing as a teen 60's early 70's ... so it's wonderful to hear Bob talk about his past looking back from where he is now. In fact, sadly my custom Dick Brewer baby gun (we had lived NS first before moving to Oz) had to be cut down and reshaped by Hayden Kenny, due to getting too chewed by the rocks as no leashes back then. Great interview, thank you! Looking forward to Part 2!
@wasabiginger6993 🌊 Thanks so much for your kind words and for sharing your story! We're stoked to hear that Bob's interview brought back those Sunshine Coast memories. #SurfLegends #BobMcTavish
Phenomenal interview. What a legend. Really looking forward to part 2.
@stuartgray467 🌊 Thanks, Stuart! We're stoked you loved the interview. Bob's a true surf legend with stories that inspire.
This was really interesting, thank you. So good hearing about how things actually were and how things evolved from Bob. Over the years history has a way of being manipulated. Nice hearing that back in the day it wasn't us against them as some would have us believe. Just like minded obsessive mates experimenting and enjoying life.
So true! Such a different and very special era of surfing.
@morgshopping 🌊 Thanks a ton! We're thrilled Bob's stories resonated with you. It was truly about passionate surfers experimenting and enjoying the ride together. More tales are on the way! 🏄♂️ #SurfHistory #BobMcTavish #SurfLegends

Gotta love BL. What a great interview from beginning to end. Should be mandatory viewing for all surf fans and maybe even more so for surfing industry insiders because Barton has certainly provided some priceless insights and wisdom here.
Fanatstic Episode. Bob is an absolute legend, so down to earth & a great storyteller. Loved it!
@rogerpye1865 🌊 Awesome to hear you loved it, Bob's the real deal, isn't he? Such a chill vibe and his stories are pure magic. Stay tuned for more epic stories. 🏄♂️ #SurfingVibes #BobMcTavish #StokedSurfer
