Very educational on history, but no mention of the Roman Catholic hero priest, Father Damien De Veuster --now Saint Damien due to his dedication for the sick and building much of the infrastructure not only on Kalaupapa but on the entire island of Molokai -- St. Philomena Church; St. Joseph Church; Our Lady of Sorrows Church; Saint Sophia church.

A couple of billion to repair and rehab Adak Naval Station is a drop in the bucket, compared to what we are absolutely WASTING around the world in other countries with ZERO return on investment. A way forward here is to allow real capitalization to proceed, without excessive government intervention and or restriction. This is how The West was won, and it can work on Adak too. Independence, self-sustainability, profit. The Arctic is opening up, and it's going to be huge! Another 26 Billion given to Israel to assist in genocidal actions against it's own people, another 61 Billion to Ukraine, to support a war, everyone knows will be won by Russia; another 17 Billion to Taiwan for military preparations to hang onto land which for 1000s of years was part of China. All these LOSER WASTES OF MONEY, but investment in American lands, American peoples, this goes unanswered and silent. The level of stupidity and shortsightedness of the American government today is staggering, wasteful, and sad. Good luck to those lone folks on Adak, they are what Americans used to be, and can be again.

I seriously doubt that the U.S. Military will return to Adak. They have let this island's infrastructure go to pot. From all the videos it seems very little has been spent on upkeep. I spent 5 years on Adak and remember seeing the NMCB's repairing roads and the Seabees from PW maintaining the buildings every day.. From I see, nobody is maintaining anything these days. There is also evidence of extreme vandalism to buildings on Bering Hill and NSGA, so much that I can see where much of the asbestos that was encapsulated is now all over the place. The Navy left billions of dollars worth of infrastructure for "REUSE", and it has been left to rot. The "City of Adak" is pretty much a joke these days.

Spent over a year in total on Adak, mostly 1997-2002, but also a bit a few years later. Environmental cleanup for the Navy. Beautiful place. Loved the volcanoes, loved the sea, loved the bald eagles, the otters, etc. Cleanest air you can imagine. Peaceful. I am an introvert, but even so, it is a lonesome place and won't work for most people for long.

Great video. What was missing though was one unique report that singled out Adak as the best place between Tokyo and Seattle to refuel aircraft AND ships in the hydrogen age since you could build wind and wave power cheaply and relatively easily on the island due to its natural conditions, not to mention of course its half-way strategic location between continents as the video said... Adak could be Pacific version of Keflavik and Reykjavik the way that Anchorage was and is today...
