    The most fascinating fact is that the Godfather is nothing like he Mafia in real life. It Romanticized a bunch of killers and thieves into something special. If one actually wants to see a movie closer to the real deal try Goodfellas..

In fact the real funny thing is when the movie came out many mafia people tried to act like the characters that's how removed from reality it actually is. Buy a clue. The funny thing is I still like it. It is very good. Right up there with the Wizard Of Oz Dorthy. i actually have a BFA in Television, Film and Photography Production and have written Grada A shooting scripts. I have even worked for PBS at one time. So you exhibiting your "credentials" as some badge of honor as if they make what you are saying any worth it is absolutely laughable. Most of the professionals, much more important than you, disagree with you. When people denigrate Godfather 3, it's almost always because of Sofia Coppola's bad acting. And she isn't a good actor, but she's not too terrible either. The real casting problem wasn't Sofia, it was that Robert Duvall wasn't in Godfather 3. Paramount offered him an insulting amount to do the film so he refused. As a result the script suffered because Michael needs to be contrasted with his family members to make the fabric of the story rich. So, in 3, neither the Don, Mama, Sonny, Fredo and Tom are in the story, nor the other great secondary characters like Clemenza, Tessio, Rocco, and Frankie. I don't even dislike 3, if it didn't have to live up to its legacy it'd be viewed as a good film. The biggest problem with 3 is there's no Tom Hagen.

  • @AvySparks
    @AvySparks2 ай бұрын

    Well said. Godfather 3 has the misfortune of living in its predecessors shadows but you’re right, it is a good film. Just a shame it could have had the makings of another classic if the casting/story had been more considered

    Vito, Hagen, and Vincent Mancini represent children from broken homes. Their parents died when they were young. Those three men, more than any of the other Corleones, appreciate true families that love and sacrifice for each other to make their lives together the best it could possibly be.

    This is such a great analysis!!!!! I admired this character alot right from the start of the trilogy. Although its one of the greatest movies out there, I still think that it doesn't highlight lives and POVs of most of the side characters which may have left some areas blank that needed to filled somehow. I was always fond of this character and I liked this character more than Michael's. Tom Hagen is quite sharp, efficient, smart and quite literally always makes the right decision. He could've become the don if only he was related to the Coreleone family by blood.

    Also, (1:37) this is the wrong side of the fence. You are marking the right side of the screen (where Grant and Malcom's car is). That side is not the one with the moat, instead is the LEFT side (where Lex and Tim´s car is, the one car the rex throws to one of the smaller trees inside the moat). And a visual cue is the trees were the Rex was hiding before breaking out the fence (1:04 at the LEFT side) can be seen here as well (2:03 left bottom side). And here (0:51 left) Lex and Tim look at the LEFT side of the screen and as the thunder strikes yo can see that beyond those trees there´s nothing behind (0:54). If we go back to the the first time we saw the paddock, when the cars are exiting the tunnel you can see at the LEFT side the dip in the fence (Later in the movie when Lex hides in the drainage pipe you can see that wall). where the moat starts. That is why they are using a panning-establishing shot, that lasts for several seconds (so your eyes have time to follow from left to right the tree's arrangement and understand the environment). Remember, the movie was made for theatres everything looks bigger, and is easier to spot things like that but with good video quality is hard to miss even on a 32-inch screen, to be honest. And if you pay close attention we see just the tree tops or less than that, because the floor is deeper at the LEFT side (where the moat is), as the paddock extends back to the mountains and far back to the right side you can see the ground gets gradually higher, because there's a hill far from the fence that gets higher towards the feeding exhibition at the right side, forcing the Rex to walk towards the fence to a higher ground so everybody in the tour can see her (And she din´t show up, because thats the argument there, even if they try to control her behavoir by changing the environment with fences, moats and motion devices... chaos happens). So, They stop exactly at the ¨goat feeding exhibition¨ where the moat ends, the cliff is at the LEFT side beside the goat, again that way the rex will be at the visitor's eyesight level in a corner so it is easier to see her. I put LEFT in the capital letter so you can see that in cinematographic terms they are building up something important there and giving us visual cues where everything is, normally used when some type of action happens in the scene. They also use foreshadowing: *Donald Gennaro: The full fifty miles of fence are in Place? Jonh Hammon: And the CONCRETE MOATS, and the motion tracking devices... *Hammond is at the LEFT as he tells him that. Too bad you didn't put the part where Ellie arrives at the paddock and finds the car, you can see just the tree tops again but closer this time, so it´s easier to see how far from the fence they really are and how tall as she looks over the fence towards the cliff-moat, another visual cue. And Ellie goes down the hill (using the right side, were the goat was) to check the crashed car (important to say: they use the ¨time compression¨ technique there, instead of looking at her walking all the way so is not boring and doesn´t interfere with the rhythm of the sequence as everything is going to chaos in the plot, the action and cuts are faster, a pretty common cinematography technique/rule). We can assume that Ellie is using the same path the Rex uses to reach the goat, as she arrives at the crash site you can see at the LEFT where the wall is. The car stopped at the goat's exhibition so... again the cliff is on the LEFT side, beside the goat. The rex escaped after eating the goat, so she was beside the cliff as well, That is how she managed to throw the car, and for sure she knew what she was doing, she knew the moat was there, almost like a poetic irony that she uses against humans what they use to try to control her. So yeah, I hope that helps.

    This scene was not about the cliff. It was about the tyrannosaur. Spielberg was working feverishly to complete Schindler's List as well, so I think he can be forgiven for this error. I always assumed that the TR paddock was on the right side of the road and the vertical wall was on the left. I also assumed that the vertical wall was part of the island's drainage system or perhaps that it served as a spillway to carry high water away from the parks' exhibits, roads, and attractions. I suppose it is a little far fetched to assume that Ellie could have rappelled down the wall to find the crushed car, then climbed back up all in a few seconds just in time to escape in the jeep with the others once T-Rex becomes aware of their presence. Still a great film.
