I would like to practice and focus on Nav as the role for a team. Should I join an orienteering group to get experience?

Yeah, that always a good idea, or simply enter a shorter Adventure race where the nav is slighly simpler to gain experience

@damiangiulietti I happen to find an orienteering event near my house the following day of this post and so I signed up immediately. Three courses from a beginner walkthrough to a traditional. And it was very interesting because I'm ASA trained sailor as well as scuba diver and both require route finding. It took both of those and combine them and a very sensible way and became a lot of fun! I'd encourage it. I didn't expect much and I was thoroughly pleased
