I have listened to both presenters from Pretoria, I think that the villain or hero diagnostic is archaic, and, a misunderstanding of the China and Africa relationship; and although I was trained not far from you a long time ago at UEA in development studies, not being a Westerner, I see things differently as I will also explain further with a question to you guys at the end about Ethiopian Airlines and China. The relationship between China has a long history starting during the colonial period at an anti-colonial conference in Bandung, indonesia in 1955 which china attended, China also having suffered a semi-colonial 100 years, the Chinese calling the 100 year period from the West as the "century of humiliation"; thus, the Africa and China relationship is more equal and consultative (the China Africa Forum involving African and Chinese leaders met in Beijing 2006, and continues every 3 years in Africa and China), therefore, the use of the word "AID" is not appropriate in the China and Africa relationship, projects are discussed and requested and not imposed. Finally, to prove that the relationship is very different to that between colonised and coloniser. Here is my promised question: In 2023, Africa's largest and most profitable, continuously since founding in 1946 Airline, Ethiopian which is state-owned was given a contract to transport electronic inputs from Xiamen in China to a factory in Brazil. I do not see such an engagement between Senegal and France or between the USA and Angola; unthinkable. Promoting democracy or dictatorship must left to developing countries, formerly oppressed without democracy; we have the united nations for that.

Every metric being used on Trump needs to be used on "Lunch-Bucket Joe" as well. A huge problem is our GOVT is monstrous and centralized, a massive juicy prize dangling for the power hungry individual. We don't need or want "Porefessional" politicians who "Know the System", to me that means they know how to "Game the system"

Using your analogy that Trump had no epxerience---Forklift operators get better training than teens with driving cars: and yet both vehicles can weigh 1-2 tons and cause lethal damage. I propose 3 checks: background checks, financial audits and knowledge of the Constitution and it's LIMIT on power. EVERY candidtae must pass.Term limits will prevent a great deal of the filtering process where slippery people keep moving up the power ladder. Prevent Politicians from re-entering the field after their terms, they must go back to private life. Perhaps candidacy should be more random, like jury selection.

politicians tow the party line, they ignore peaceful protests, they react to violent protests and they react to peaceful protests that threaten violence or are inflammatory, so simply walking or standing does nothing, whereas holding a symbol says a thousand words. the stronger the symbol the stronger the statement the more it's presented the more cohesive and clear the message is, violence gets you dismissed as a non-representative minority or on the fringe and as a rioter not a protester, numbers mean nothing as more people are pro-palestine supporters than are israel supporters, indeed politicians are not moved by the will of the people, jo cox even refused to listen to her constituents such as thomas mair, hotels have to be physically blocked off by protesters to prevent the government from putting migrants in them, instead of the polticians serving the people and fulfilling their wishes, honouring their will and respecting them they have closed themselves off, act against them and hide behind security that they never had nor needed before, they wouldn't even fully honour brexit which the people mandated via an official referendum, they say protests embarrass politicians on the world stage and that's why they wish to ban protests, not true, it is in fact to stop the people from uniting and being active.

If you cannot ask the prominent questions then the data is all a waste of time. If you cannot ask about migrants then what is the point you might as well just have a punch up and the people still standing at the end of a punch up wins the argument. The argument is can you throw the migrants back? No you cannot. Why not?😊

The only problem with Rory Stewart is he doesn’t seem to understand the realities of the post-PNAC world. 1. You can’t rebuild a durable Centre if every negotiated consensus is contradicted by the realities of power. 2. The polarization into extreme left and extreme right is a symptom of two tribes; but they’re not in ideological opposition, they’re divided by a common enemy. 3. Britain’s executive is always potentially totalitarian whenever govt enjoys a big parliamentary majority. House of Lords stands in the way of unfettered power, hence the successive erosions in its power since Blair. 4. The most significant yet seldom remembered lost piece of Britain’s unwritten Constitution is the role of living Sovereign. The role was defined after the Restoration and affirmed many times after the Act of Union. Read the Coronation Oath. Consider fiat justitia. The Sovereign is supposed to represent the People versus the tyranny of Parliament.

Hello, sorry for not replying sooner. At UCL we tend to run things within departments rather than centrally. but you can find out about UCL events that are open to all here: www.ucl.ac.uk/events/ In addition, each department within the university will have its own events programmes and will usually have mailing lists that you can sign up to. Ours is here: eepurl.com/dMEF1I All UCL students can also access MediaCentral where you will find all of UCLs recorded events, podcasts and a lot of seminars/lectures as well: mediacentral.ucl.ac.uk/ I hope that helps and I hope you continue to enjoy your videos!

In my point of views:- There are always differences between China & US in Africa. This is because two of them embark on different policy. A) one is for geopolitical objectives & The Other is B) geo-economic objectives The results will always be different. Nothing special as it is entirely different objectives for different outcomes.
