Strings, Keyboards and the whole composition, courtesy of maestro Jon Lord. You should listen to his CONCERTO FOR GROUP AND ORCHESTRA, performed by Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Malcolm Arnold (Oscar winner for his music for movies) live at The Royal Albert Hall, recorded in 1969. It's in youtube too. I think you will enjoyed a lot, specially Jax. Cheers.

This song is in some ways similar to "July Morning" by Uriah Heep, the melody is basically the same, but Gravy Train handles this theme masterfully in its own way. Both are fantastic songs!

It wasn't that bad for us actually coz we listened to it through one upload. Whereas you're getting that original upload and then it being compressed and uploaded by me. So it loses a lot of quality.

If you want something different from short and sweet, may I suggest Salisbury, their sweeping 16-minute epic from their album by the same name. A long listen, for sure, but it shows their range brilliantly, and features several blistering lead solos by Mick Box. As for Easy Livin', no one remarks about the exquisite bass line by the late Gary Thain. While not a great example of virtuosity, it is perfectly suited to this song, and clearly evident. I would say it is worthy of something that Paul McCartney might have come up with. Ken Hensley's Hammond organ is steaming throughout. It's too bad more bands didn't use organ because it can make a huge difference to a band's sound -- witness Afterglow by the Small Faces, You Keep Me Hanging On by Vanilla Fudge, House of the Rising Sun by the Animals, and every Deep Purple song ever done (I hope the church canonizes Jon Lord some day). This song is one of my favourite driving songs, along with Radar Love (Golden Earring), Already Gone (the Eagles), Highway Star (Deep Purple), and two songs by Canadian recluse rocker Aldo Nova, Heartless, and Heart to Heart.

Their song, "Rain" has an enduring quality, featuring the vocals more than the band's energy for which they were more generally known, I suspect. I love y'all's accent. May I ask which part of the UK you reflect? It is awfully pretty. I live in Charlotte, North Carolina whose distant mountains have manglings deemed permanently indecipherable, so it's nice to hear it done well.
