Catch 30 to 40 of them regularly on there on bunches of dead maggots on method feeder but put lots more feed in at start usually mid day is best for some reason.😊
hello westy love your channel. i have been looking at this chair on other channels and have found out that the longer arm that is threaded is for a keepnet and the feeder arm goes on a short arm hope this helps explain why its threaded. keep up the good work i too fish a lot of the places you do and i hope to bump into you on the bank sometime
I do all kinds of fishing and have a shed full of carp and coarse gear but fly fishing is by far my favourite because you're always doing something so it never gets boring. I'd be out every week if i could. Ive only fished small stillwaters and reservoirs though, no rivers or streams as yet. Oh and you absolutely do not need a tapered leader, it might improve your turnover like 1%. Good luck and tight lines 🎣

Old man I used to see fly fishing when out walking dogs told me best fly is a hovis bomber said when no fly is doing trick put abit bread on fly never fails😂😂
I feel like this defeats the object 😂😂 and you might as-well just surface fish with bread haha
Tried twice got all gear just coudnt get hang of it tho but love lure fishing so been looking at greys kits quite good prices for rod n reel combos and top quality greys gear lasts forever I've a sea smock greys did must be 25years old still like new 😂
I started fly fishing here in Canada. Went on the river for the first time yesterday. Thank god no one filmed it!

I'll be watching this series as I just don't understand the point of fly fishing. Seems a lot of faff for the same effect as other disciplines. Maybe i'll learn something!
I think lure , feeder and trotting can definitely achieve the same result more effectively! We will see 🎣
@@WestysAngling I suppose it's like everything, each to their own and no matter how far things progress there will always be some that hold onto the old ways. Fascinates me to watch people fly fishing but just seems such a long winded way about it. I'm always up for learning new things tho 🙂

As this video is on, I’m way more experienced then you, i have been out fly fishing once, and was sore in my right arm the day after, on a sidenote. I also stared Carp fishing a month ago, and my first carp was a 5,5kg common carp. Anyways. Tight Lines from Denmark.
🤣 I need to get two sessions in quickly and catch you up. I have bad shoulders so this will be entertaining!
Great session! Watching those bream coming in is a distant memory for me. No bream where I am, feisty carp, catfish and barble! Few waters hold big tench but waiting for a break in work and weather to spend a session there. Great seeing you and your dad making memories!
not a great fan but try for some chub :-) don't forget dry flies need some sort of dressing to make sure they float

Hi Westy, i started fly fishing on my local stream/river last season. For the whole season i didn’t catch a thing (i was going after trout). First day of this trout season (1st of April) i caught my 2 first trout. Since that day, i go fly fishing almost every weekend and have not blanked once. I recommend watching “IB and Andy” fly fishing youtube channel as they have taught me a lot. If you need any tips i’m here to help :) Tight Lines!!

What waters are you planning on visiting ? There is a good fly fishery called mere beck in Preston.
Only natural waters mate, rivers and streams 👍🏻 I probably won’t be advertising them like I do with my other videos !
@@WestysAngling Also Mere beck if you contact them used to do a lesson day ticket also. A friend of mine did it and said was very good and got him going. I learned in the Lake District so many great waters. Will say tho you do save money on bait but water costs are much higher and lots of private groups.

No we haven’t fished that far south buddy ! I can’t really advise on casting as I’m shite at it 😂 but make sure you slow the feeder down before it hits the water by ‘feathering’ the cast 👍🏻

The margins are pretty shallow, I’d be tempted to do some surface fishing, I think it’s allowed or fish to the reeds or island

Yet another great show Westy!! I like to soak my pellets & groundbait with cheap, fizzy orange pop, I will also try it with strawberry/cherry pop some time . Love to watch you and your Dad fishing together, & the banter between you both.

I think that bream had a hair rig stuck in his mouth, maybe it irritated him and spooked him feeding on the pellets. watch it slo mo, looks like a light cream small boilie or something
Gotta say that sometimes it is nice to get into a few decent bream as a break from fighting carp lol

I walk round Birkacre a lot (its only about 2 miles from my house) and i've seen people fishing but never fancied it because of the amount of people traffic it gets. The early start is a great idea at this time of year so might look into a Wigan Ticket and give it a whirl with the lad. Well done on the PB's 🙂

why fish 9 lb hook lenghts do yoy not think thats not to heavy
Doesn’t put the fish off mate, I mostly fish 12lb hook lengths 😂 stronger the better ! You never know when you could hook into a really good fish

Just a thought, but have you ever tried using Mattersons smoked pork sausage... In my experience, brilliant for the punch, in various sizes, and loose feed or mince the leftovers and add to the groundbait ... Great for carp, barbel, and bream...
Fish after fish after fish after fish. Method pellet really has turned fishing on its head. Is there any point in even buying a float rod?
Float fishing can be enjoyable, but I would say method feeder is the far superior way of fishing! Unless it’s a very hot day then I think pellet waggler comes into its own I guess

Great days fishing westy and dad ,been using the salmon pink westys wafters and caught some decent fish ,but I will be definitely having the pineapple ones too now 👍

Was original 3 lodges they drained the 3rd one never seen as many fish in the mud Crucians by the nets full removed added to the other lodges and surrounding waters. My old fella tells me the bream are as big as an old round bin lid and the bait to use bread
Don't be mean & buy your dad a couple of those Korum xtend rods I have one at 10 foot and one at 12 foot brilliant rods
He has two, he just didn’t bring them 😂

I have the same rod but I dont think the handle pops off.I not use it much so it's still in good condition.Its with a Sedona shimano 2500 golden looking reel
