  There were Snyder fans who complained "Why didn't Clark take pa to the Hospital? He out ran a train earlier" First of all there were many different ways Snyder's Superman could have potentially saved his Father from the tornado. Second this Pa Kent had a weak heart/ heart disease. He was probably dead before he hit the ground.

  I’ve seen people get heart attacks. I’ve seen them die from heart attacks. It is scary, and incredible, how perfectly Ford portrays this.

  The music as it transitions from the farm to the cemetery gets me everytime. So powerful and perfectly written to show the sadness of the situation

  I was heartbroken when I was a child and Jonathan Kent died of a heart attack in this scene, Glenn Ford had a very short role in Superman but he sure was a great actor :)

  As much as I enjoyed the series Smallville, one problem with it I always had was that, being filmed around Vancouver, Smallville and its environs looked nothing like Kansas. Interestingly, these scenes were filmed in Canada as well, but in Alberta, which is on the northern end of the same great plains that Kansas is in also, so it looks correct.

  This movie remembered that Superman is first and foremost Clark. Son of the Kent's. It's why he's a hero who happens to have great powers.

  He was probably scared to do that. Jonathan doesn’t have durability, like Clark. Going that fast could’ve killed Jonathan faster

  Glenn Ford was a perfect choice for the role of Jonathan Kent. I really don't think they could have gotten another actor more suited to that character than him. One of the things that makes the first 45 minutes of this movie a work of cinematic art.

  I think the only other scene in a comic book film that hits like this was Bruce’s parents death in Batman Begins. Usually when bad things happen they happen very quickly and without warning.

  Very emotional scene. Rip Glenn Ford. Great actor. When he grabs his arm at first i thought maybe he was having a stroke but it was a heart attack. I was like wow. I hope that does not happen with me. Best superman movie ever. Thanks for posting this.😭

  I didn't appreciate it at the time, but Jonathan Kent spent his last moments having a heart to heart with his son and being looked at with love by his wife. Not the worst way to go by any means

  ⁠@@anjan17this scene showed that for all his powers, Superman cannot save someone dying from natural cause, or from cancer, or a heart attack. Some people said he could’ve ran Jonathan into the ER with his super speed but that’s not the point.

  This scene.... man, after all these many years, I still remember this scene. I found this part to be the most poignant one of the film. Even with all his incredible powers, Clark couldn't save his father from death. Sigh.

  I love this scene. Prior to the death part. I love the talk they have. Superman has a heart in it that no other superhero movie can touch. That’s why it’s my favorite. That’s why it’s the best.

  Although Man of steel version of Jonathan kent dying was good. This one to me was more emotional especially with Martha yelling for Jonathan.

  I always preferred that he dies this way than in Man of Steel. It displays that there are some people Clark just can't save no matter what he does. Shows how he despite his great power, there is still only so much he can do

  Simple is better. Less is more. Donner understood. Compare this with so many modern movies trying to do emotional death scenes and it's really a joke. All filmed on location, three great actors. The way Donner films it also adds weight. He gives us nothing. When Clark gets to him all we see is a super wide shot and we understand its inevitability. There's no dramatic exit. No miracle. Just a simple loss we all have to deal with as human beings, and not even a Superman is exempt from that.
