Why do all the more expensive ones use a buckle with a SPRING BAR? Nato straps were designed to combat the weakness of spring bars, by having a straps that stays on even if one of the two spring bars would fail. Now they have just added another spring bar to the buckle... You will lose the watch if the spring bar on the buckle breaks or comes off. The cheapestnatostrap seemed to be the only one with a solid one buckle ring?

great review! one question: i have just noticed on the website, it's written that the bracelet is not good for people under 6,25" wrists. now, both you and i have exactly that, apparently, but my gf (soon to be wife :)) has smaller wrists (i would like to say in the 5,5"-5,75" ballpark), so i'd like to know why would the bracelet be a no-go for under 6,25" if you can figure it out or it's written somewhere? is it because of the removable links?
@time_to_lume2323 жыл бұрын
Yes that's correct I think. I have all of the possible links removed and it goes down to about 6" wrist minimum (it would be a little loose). But the watch itself feels really nice and slim, and the tapering of the lugs means it wears really well, so you could always take it off the bracelet and use a leather or nato strap for a smaller wrist 🙂

I opted to get the watch before the bracelets were done; the only issue with the blue bezel is you could see lume all around the insert BUT only in total darkness. Anyway Jason did a flawless job of swapping the insert and installing the bracelet.

One of the few reviews out there on this watch, so I very much appreciate you doing this. Something you say when you begin to compare the two watches caught my ear...you make the point that because the Rolex Jr. is far more expensive, it's then the higher quality watch by proxy, at least in some respects. While that's usually a safe bet, the really good microbrands these days are erasing that notion. I've got a Zelos diver (I could say the same thing for a CW I've owned) that's not only a spec monster, it's got all of the design elements that move us, & yes, the finishing, that luxury brands are famous for. And I'm sorry, I just don't want to hear about how this & that luxury brand's finishing is light years above any microbrand, it's simply no longer the case, & even if there are, under magnification, advantages with some luxury brands' finishing, who cares?? Now, some of my favorite bits about watch collecting are the stories, the rich histories of makers, but I personally am not willing to pay for that...for my tastes, I find that going with a microbrand gives me, by leaps & bounds, the best value for a relatively similar watch, intrinsically, while also tending to offer designs that manage to stay so much fresher, yet still timeless, than the larger/older brands....they're just so much more nimble & responsive to the market. Lastly, it's the movements...I get guys that value the movements above all else, I'm just not one of those guys. Give me a Miyota 9015 or an ETA or a Sellita & I'm good to go...I care about looks, materials/build-quality, & mostly non-movement specs...but again, that's the one difference that at least makes some sort of sense to me, in terms of guys' willingness to pay, & just general preference.
@time_to_lume2323 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, thank you for your reply and detailed thoughts! I fully appreciate your points about micro brands finishing being exceptional - and do largely agree. But with regards to comparing the Tudor and Halios side-by-side there are some clear differences. For example, the polished chamfer that runs down the lugs of both watches: on the Tudor it is much finer and more defined, the edges are sharper overall throughout the execution of the watch. If you compare them without cost in mind - the Tudor is better finished watch. If you then take into consideration that the Halios is only ~1/4 the price of the Tudor... The Halios is amazing in comparison as a value proposition. I would have loved to do a REAL DEEP comparison of the two but I don't have the equipment or skills to make a video that would do it justice. It's really interesting that you say the stories and histories of watch makers are one of your favourite bits - but you're not willing to pay for it, why do you think this? I think, like with things such as art and antiques, the brand history and identity is part of the package and cost. Just look at AP and Patek selling steel sports watches for £20k+...! I do wholly agree though, the speed and variance of the micro products is really exciting and it's probably where I spend most of my time researching and reading about watches. The movement conversation is really interesting and I could talk about that at length also. As a person with a number of watches and only space for 2 on a winder... They run down a lot. So I have to set them every few days anyway... So a COSC movement or similar just isn't a concern for me - especially when buying a micro brand. I think that gives them more room to breathe as they can design a watch then try and find movements to fit if they want to - so you don't get any dodgy date window placements or similar! Thank you again for watching and engaging! :)
