Why is the engineer pulling the string in the cab to make 487 blow the whistle

Thats the way whistles are blown, the rope connects to the whistle and opens the valve to let steam through

@Harrison Grand & Santa Fe nice look forward to meeting you, I'm with the texla model railroad club. We're building an entirely new modular layout, we branched off (due to some disagreements on layout building parameters) from Southeast Texas Model Railroad Club that you filmed in this video. Setmrc has a min 18in radius and most of our members equipment can't make the curves on the main. We wanted min 36in radius but never could come to an agreement so about 15 or so members left setmrc and joined forces with lake charles, Louisiana model railroad club to form texla model railroad club. Again hopefully we will have the vast majority of the layout finished by next year.

Another way to test the light is to assemble the metal light rods to the "wings" and circuit board and insert the "plate" parts of the rods into the bottom part of the car, and then simply put the car on powered track to check whether the light comes on.

If you do another one if these videos, you could add instructions on how to install the light board for the red end lights which is installed in the bottom of the car.
