    I agree with you on every issue. I added a hydraulic log turner and hyraulic clamping system about a year ago. Definitely makes it easier for a one man operation

    Good video. Just finished a saw job sawing 18 foot stuff with sweep in the logs. It's a lot of screwing around trying to get the right size material the customer wants with crooked logs.👍

    Thanks for making this video. I have same mill and just ordered the new guides a few days ago. Now I know what I’m getting and things to watch for. For the price of this mill and the price of upgrade, I think Norwood could do better on some things. I jumped on the new guide system as soon as I saw it because I figured the ceramic guides were causing my wavy cut problems, based on what you described now I know I was right. Can’t wait to get them on!

    For slabbing, I've found it helpful to mill at least half-way down the log before turning it. That way, the clamps have a more bite, due to the curvature of the log. It also means less log to flip when turning it. I love cedar, but it is hard to come by anything worth putting on the mill.

    @MrTuristen 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤟🙏😍. Absolutely zero need for a laser level. And yes, they are not as accurate as a good bubble level. The problem with a laser level is that, not everyone has one, diffusion is a problem at this focus, it needs to be leveled with a level. However, I don't think the level of accuracy needs to be "crazy." A standard level that reads correctly is more than sufficient.

    @@williamprophett9148 Im going to buy a sawmill on a trailer and move around a lot. Will be using a self leveling laser for setting the sawmill up roughly, and then use bubble levels for fine adjustments

    I wish I saw this vid when I was a kid. I had a minibike with a broken recoil. Instead of fixing it, I just took the whole assembly off and would just wrap the cord around the exposed flywheel to start it. It was fine and dandy until the one day it snagged my sock! LOL

    That red cedar log was junk. I have more cedar than I could log and mill in 10 years. I see lots milling that nasty bark inclusions big but a lot of taper. Good cedar is like milling pine most of them where I cut no limbs for 20 feet or very few and a inch of taper I've a 8 foot long without any inclusions

    @@williamprophett9148 that's why had to comment. I see videos from all over the east and am like why even waist time on the nasty thing. I can literally take a 9 inch log and mill a clear 6x6. A 5 inch log will make a 4x4 that clear. As I cut a log of logs I just leave them nasty ones for a shade tree

    @leonardmartin5145 Morning, Leonard. For full disclosure, I have every kind of tool manufacturer known to man with the exception of Festool. I'm not some "bubby." I'd be more than happy to compare tills. My goal in this video from like 8 years ago was to steer contractors and other professionals away from a lousy product. Gotta admit though, the thing is still sitting in the corner of the shop, all these years later. Thing works OK as long as you back it up with adjustable stands. I'd say it's more of a movable storage system than a work stand. Hope no one shit in your cheerios this morning.😂

    Hi from Oamaru South island New Zealand. Can you show the compression test kit please?. Is this for small engines only?. I add into B.P Ultimate 100 octane with Briggs and Stratton fuel stabilizer with Amsoil Saber into bulk race can then tune saw to that mix. It makes engines sing.

    Agree with you one hundred per cent. They are a great hard working, united family with education and good values. I like their channel and I love them girls. They are smart, bright, know their trade, are creative, imaginative, they put up a good show, they are fun to watch. They are certainly very very good looking and sexy which doesn't harm. And as we watch the kids, we know they certainly have good parents behind them. I feel very sorry if some psycho morons showed up at their place with bad intentions. By the way, the girls are not small, standing like 5'10'' and they are probably much stronger than a typical teenager sweetheart. Indeed, when we look at their numbers, they have become real stars and I understand your concern the way you explain it. Nevertheless, I remain confident nothing bad will happen and if it is of any comfort to you, I promise that I will talk to my guardian angel and ask him to protect them non-stop.

    Very cool to watch...what size mill did you use...I'm assuming its an alaskan mill...my biggest is 36" so no way it'd be cutting that log

    @LWYOffGridHomestead Morning. It is a 48" Granberg "Alaskan mill" with a 99cc 066 with a 56" Forester bar. I have a 36" mill as well, and I probably use (use to before my band mill) it a lot more than the 48". Thanks for the watch!

    I have been doing tree work since high-school I'm almost 63 yrs old. I have climbed trees most people won't. I run a chain Down to the last of the tooth and still cuts like knew. I pull the logs out of the woods and hand roll them on mill by myself . I use pulleys and a variety of techniques to get them out and on mill. I look better than guys that go to a gym. I would say to all making videos, thanks I just like seeing what others do. I can not make a video and probably no one would look at it anyways. I am about to take down the largest pine tree I have ever done . I like being up in a tree. Good job on your videos.

    I tilt my logs eat more than you are. Mostly milling small cedar logs. My stand is probably close to 30 degrees. After getting the cut started could tie throttle and walk away the saw walks right threw the log as long as chain good and sharp

    Thanks for recording your process. I'm right there with you. A Sharp chain really is critical but i think the granberg winch is worth it. Even if you only use it to make 10 big cuts a year, you're body will appreciate the added time it takes to set it up. Just offering my results from my own research (aches and pains). Your thoughts?

    @@harrislandscapingpa I use router sleds as well.... Big ass router sleds... However, I can do it as fast by hand. It's the process, not the tools.

    Good video, enjoy your perspective on all the filing ways and what to look for. What depth do u use for those Rakers/depth guages....?? Does it matter if you have a Long bar or short bar for the Depth?

    @Erik-6262 the hardwood setting on the progressive gauge sets the depth at .025. The softwood setting is around .035. Of course "the bar size matters." You can go deeper on the depth gauges the smaller your bar gets. On a big long bar, I like them at .025 for full comp chain. Of I was running skip chain, I'd set them deeper.

    All I have is a chainsaw mill. Everything I sell just goes into a envelope to cover a bandsaw. I milled 300 bf yesterday. Definitely need a bigger saw for the chainsaw mill. My little 400 echo is good for most things I do but need more power for the mill

    Audio sucks. It's way too low. I only watch for the girls. I've got a thing for red heads, but Jade is prettier. The Woodmizer is very efficient, but you don't have to learn that much to operate it. I've got a Woodland Mills. I had to learn to use scales and don't even mention turning a 16' by 20" log without hydraulics.

    Hey William. I got one of these a couple years ago without really knowing anything about it. Could never find a carrier for it, though. Am I wrong in thinking that theoretically you could sharpen your saws entirely with just cranking the wheel manually? I say this because I don't have a retoother and the friction wheel is rotted. Instead of getting a retoother and another friction wheel, i could just set the saw and use it as a convoluted, overly-expensive, saw filing guide?

    @@travischron3175 you can buy parts for them. I bought a new drive roller for mine. I can't remember the company that makes the parts, but you can Google it and find them. And, yes, you can run the saw through with the hand crank. It's actually a little safer for saws without a good, even tooth pattern.

    I ran a bobcat brand wood chipper with my tree company for a few years. It is a glorified pencil sharpener. I would pass on any hydraulic wood chipper based on my past experience. I would almost look for a rental company and rent a wood chipper once a month or something like that. Even if you hire a tree company to come over and chip. The maintenance and cost of a good chipper would be hard to justify owning one.
