    The band is so chill, no excitement on stage except Robben. They have been playing together for so long, its just walking in a park, instead of jogging or running. But I would probably be the same way at their ages and doing this for over 30 years.

    What's gotten into Robben Ford man.....he's swingin' and swayin' like never before? I love his playing absolutely but he seems a bit outta place here. It's kinda cringeworthy. Oh well....his playing has Clapton's attention and that's well and enough but calm down lol.

    People need to remember that music isn’t a race or competition. But if you do want to compare, try walking up to some random person in the street and whisle for example the melody of Talk To Your Daughter OR those first seven notes of Layla… I will guarantee you that most people, even younger, will recognise Layla and NOT ONE song by RF. And I’m a real RF fan! I really love it that RF was (finally!!) asked to play with slowhand, they all played superb!

    First of all there wasn't 20 chords played in Robins solo!!! Secondly it doesn't matter how many chords you know to have the best solo, and if you ask the Best of the best of players they will tell you that. And 3rd, you're trying to compare apples to oranges on your opinion.

  • @raincitymusic1369
    @raincitymusic1369 Жыл бұрын

    Ok, you caught me exaggerating a bit…I think there’s 2 chords in the whole song. I wasn’t trying to rip any of the musicians, just making a comment about RF’s mastery and use of altered chords, which he talks about extensively in his online lesson content, and uses extensively. I thought he laid at least a few of them down when Eric’s not looking. When Eric looks, RF drops back to the power E). Idk, I think I notice a lot of stuff, maybe imagination. I like to think I don’t say anything about these guys they wouldn’t say to each other - but as you mentioned, it’s just my opinion. Cheers

    Sounds like an enviable life you lead man. I never saw or listened to RF until about a year ago, and still feel bad I didn’t know earlier. But I did get an email today from RF’s GF Kelly in Paris, asking me why I didn’t finish signing up for RF GuitarDojo! She runs the site and marketing and whatever for them. Ha ha I responded with my excuses and compliments, and she was very generous and cool. I mentioned that I knew who she was cuz Robben mentioned her in an Oct 2022 interview…prolly scared her lol. Robben played 20 chords the other guys never heard of, THEN schooled them all on how to craft an engaging solo over a monotonous vamp, and delighted everyone by having fun the whole time. Seemed he threw SlowHand off his game, Clapton tried to creatively ease into his solo like Robben, then seemed to say f it, here’s my usual stuff. Even the big guys can get a little shook knowing they have to follow someone as uniquely studied and talented as Robben 🤘

    Ya I know maybe by my try to convey how this whole vid was delightful to me, it does sound like I was judging the guys, and didn’t mean to. My appreciation of all these ppl goes back a long way, except Robben Ford who I more recently discovered. And I’ve listened to and played many of their songs in kind of a lot of years of off/on lead guitar playing in blues/rock settings. My observations, I intended to describe things that I could easily identify with, their reactions all relatable and good-natured, not trying to make something out of it. Just thinking that I see, when RF solo starts, the very second Eric is drawn in cuz the notes are so interesting, then again where he smiles cuz it sounds great and thinks , “you go Robben, I’m digging it! People do this sh*t to me all the time, I don’t even care, I got a million licks!” But being EC he would not be careless, then forms quick plan to go into first part of solo noticeably more subtle than he would for big roaring song, lay down some mxldn noodling and stay there for a couple extra bars before doing his more crowd-pleasing stuff, so his solo might kinda ease into your head, then a middle part with enough wilder high register stuff, that the first couple bars of the last third make you start to worry this solo is trying to go to levels unachievable by most humans, I hope he makes it! Ya know, like that guy ROBBEN FORD who just did that sh*t! No one else notices this?! Then I notice when he seems to think, ya, this next-level solo crafting thing is cool, I’m prolly gonna look more into that, but for now, f it Lets Go! Yes maybe all in my head, but that’s my take, my first one may have sounded unflattering, not as intended and no excuse. And this one may not be better, but just wanted y’all to know I do think about these kind of experiences as relatable from being a fan and musician for lots of years. Someone mentioned there is no “better” or similar. Don’t even get me started, I’m def not that guy! And finally, yes Doyle was there too, ack. ☮️
