How is the headlight, is there much difference in illumiation ?

I can't honestly say since I don't ride at night. The new headlights move when you're in a turn, and as far as I'm concerned, they're just another thing, to become a costly repair in the future.

I had to force it up, and then sprayed some Silicon spray to lube it up, into the lift arm. They want you to send it back, which they know no-one will do. Good luck.

@@motor8654 Thanks. any problems since then? I had a Tamarack in our previous home for almost 10 years. We used it A LOT and never had issues. For this home we bought a cheaper version it has worked well for the last 3 years, but developed the same issue as yours.

I have a RT. 2023. You do not have to dip your head down. I find the stock mirrors fine. However the navigation system..........

I do, but I wear progressive prescription glasses. The mirrors are fine, but are way too low, not in your line of sight while looking down the road. The Navigation system is pure garbage, with the damn Wifi dropping out all the time. I don't bother connecting my phone to the bike anymore. Get a Garmin ZumoXT. and all the troubles go away. It works off of GPS, and always works, not Wifi, like the BMW. This is the biggest disappointment with the bike, I should've kept my 2020 RT, real gauges, and a Garmin Nav V GPS, that worked.

I have not noticed a problem with the mirrors and my sat nav worked just about perfectly with Samsung Galaxy phones until May this year. I suspect a BMW nav. update was the culprit, and it successfuly sucked much of the joy out of a 2300 mile trip to Italy and back.

@@matthewberry577 That sucked, that the navigation gave you so much frustration, I stopped using the BMW Connected app. A stand alone GPS, is the way to go, I have a Garmin ZumoXT, and it's just so easy to use in comparison. The navigation on the TFT, was something I was excited to get, but sadly has been my biggest disappointment.

@@michaelturner9673 You should go check the stock mirrors again. They sit below the handlebar grips, and are way below any line of sight when looking down the road. These additional mirrors sit up high, and are in the line of sight with the road. If you try them, I think you'll like them, you could always return them too.

Too many small things with the new RT. The biggest thing is that everything runs through your phone, and you lose the WiFi signal constantly. I never even connect to the app anymore, and don't use the big TFT for the navigation after I purchased a Garmin Zumo GPS, that ALWAYS WORKS. I miss the old RT.

It's pretty good, but we had the "Ghost" before, and liked it better. It moved even more air, but was louder. If the Ghost fits in your attic, I'd get that one, FYI.

I have a 2024 model which is the same as your 23 model but all in triple black. There is a few things that annoy me, the docking station for your mobile which doesn’t fit my apple 14+ especially when you cant fit a charging cable and the self charging system i dont know if it worked, it was a total pain getting my mobile out and the fear of dropping it so i tried blue toothing it when it it was in my jacket pocket, but the phone was hot..so switched the blue tooth off. I cant understand why BMW didnt just build in a sat nav system into the screen, after all it is a tourer! Im away to possibly get a Garmin sat nav fitted above the TFT screen, also why did they make the controls so difficult to use to get the heated grips and seat? You shouldnt need to distract from looking where your riding... Apart from that, nice bike to run. I find it a tad heavy compared to my previous BMW tourers.

I've given up even trying to connect up to this bike with my phone. It loses the signal all the time, and then you have to pull over, and mess around getting up and running again. This is my biggest disapointment with the bike, not using the nav, because of the stupid engineering. They should have kept the Garmin GPS nav, like before. I use a Garmin Zumo XT, and it always works, because it's signal is GPS, and not your phone Wifi. I also miss the analog gauges too. I use one of the favorite buttons for both the grips, and the seat heaters.

I prefer the previous Gen just for the looks. Previous gen looks more fierce with the angel eyes. Would not comment on the tech and the new shift cam and all those new tech stuff, because I have never rode these before.

Not having the stand-alone guages is a issue, with the TFT, you have to be on the screen to change the music channel, and you lose the tachometer. The app based navigation (instead of GPS based), is the biggest disapointment, as the wifi signal is always dropping out forcing you to pull over and mess around with it. I don't even bother with it anymore, and use a Garmin Zumo insted, sadly.

What is BMW thinking. Saw your opinion on Adaptive Cruise Control as well. Pretty redundant and dangerous for that "Adaptive then", like you said. Why did you sell off the the 2020 then? Seems better with less burden, with less tech stuff.

Yes, at the light hub that goes to the top case. What's nice is it turns the top case light into a running light, and the brake light (the stock light is ONLY a brake light). No, you don't need the App running to listen to the radio. The radio/XM will work without any phone being connected. I had to fight with BMW to get the antenna for the XM replaced with a Sirrus antenna. The stock one would drop the signal constantly and was useless, after three weeks at the dealer, they did put the Sirrus one in with no issues since (see video). kzread.info/dash/bejne/lmWHj66HXavVl7w.html

@@motor8654 oh wow that’s interesting. I had a 2011 but had lots of issues with it so sold it. Have an Africa twin now and love it but want something more Road touring based. Not a fan of the new gs 1300 model they just released the design of. Looking for an RT even though I’m 6 foot 2 and kinda tall and cramped leg room wise I believe it still more smooth in the wind than an adv set up

Not to change the subject, but I haven’t yet tried the XM radio on my new 2023 RT because I can’t get the damn Wi-Fi connection to stay linked to my cell phone for more than five minutes. The dealer has no ideas, and BMW Motorrad sent me a list of six suggestion for my phone. How about their damn bike. This TFT has been out for three years.

Sorry for this issue. I stopped even trying to connect it with my phone, instead I got a Garmin Zumo GPS and it works great, very user friendly. I could never read the side streets (small print) with the TFT on the RT. BMW bit off more than they could chew with this RT.

I bought a new 2023 1250 RT and I keep losing my Wi-Fi link between the bike and my iPhone 12 Mini. The routing isn’t lost, I get turn-by-turn on the TFT where the map used to be, but I need to use the Wiz Wheel to reconnect the map, which takes about 30 seconds. This happened six times yesterday on a 35 mile ride. Have you had any issues like this? The maps are already downloaded on the phone.

If you using an Apple Watch or something similar You’ll need to turn it off during your ride. I can consistently ride and no longer have any problems or disconnects issues.

It looks like you had no problem with getting the air bubbles out. I’ve never been able to apply these to my iPhone without permanent bubbles so I stopped trying. I just got a 2023 R 1250 RT, but I don’t know if I will have any better luck here. On an unrelated issue, if I can’t stop the TFT Map Wi-Fi from disconnecting every 10 minutes or so, I may sell the new bike and take the money hit. My Harley Boom Box never cuts out on me.

A heat gun on low helps with the bubbles. For the Wi-Fi makes sure the BMW app is always open, but it's still a pain. I don't use the BMW navigation but use a Garmin Zumo instead, very user friendly. BMW bit off more than they can chew with this bike, my last gen 2020 was more old school and more user friendly too.

Hi Lionel, does this work with an R1200RT 2008 model? I don’t see the cable you mentioned at the beginning of the video that comes with motorbike where you connect the Bluetooth device in my glove box. I have been looking for a solution like this for a long time but I just don’t know how to do it. My bike is a bit old (it can play CD and radio) but even the radio signal is not great so I have been thinking about how to make the speakers Bluetoothable but I don’t know if that’s possible with all models or only after a certain year? Any idea? Many thanks

I just took delivery of my 2023 R1250Rt, drove the bike home, read the manual, and took the bike out for a ride. The FM radio was working fine, decided to listen on XM Radio...and found the same issue, no reception, fading in and out, nothing. This was on a west bound heading, turning south, the XM receiver was working fine, but turning back home, I had the same issue come up. The "mushroom" antenna apparently loses signal due to the windshield blocking the signal, this from several owners that confirmed relocating a $22 antenna from Amazon solved the issue quickly. I haven't verified the windshield as the culprit, once the weather is nicer I am going to experiment with it, but it makes sense. A friend of mine has a new K1600B and his XM has been a point of frustration also, although he didn't think he had the mushroom antenna showing on the dash...he couldn't' remember because it made him so mad, he traded it in on a new Indian Challenger.

The XM Antenna issue is well known with BMW, make a video and talk to/ show your dealer what's going on (mine kept dropping when you adjusted the windscreen). After three weeks at the dealer it was replaced under warranty, but still a pain. Call BMW, and have your Vin# ,and file a complaint, 800 831-1117. Good luck. Thanks for the update, I will have to check my AM radio antenna, FM reception seemed very good. Sometimes I think the best thing I can do is fix it myself, as I have the "mushroom" sitting right on the dash, I may try to modify it by cutting it and putting a real XM antenna that would look nice and it would probably be a cheap fix under $50. But, since I have such good streaming stations to listen to, connecting that way and listening to music that way would be just as good as XM Radio, and is free anyway with very few commercials. Just got the bike, winter is on the way out so I will have time to think which is the best way to go...as I would NOT like to have the bike in the shop for any length of time!

Too many small things with the new RT. The biggest thing is that everything runs through your phone, and you lose the WiFi signal constantly. I never even connect to the app anymore, and don't use the big TFT for the navigation after I purchased a Garmin Zumo GPS, that ALWAYS WORKS. I miss the old RT.

It's pretty good, but we had the "Ghost" before, and liked it better. It moved even more air, but was louder. If the Ghost fits in your attic, I'd get that one, FYI.

I have a 2024 model which is the same as your 23 model but all in triple black. There is a few things that annoy me, the docking station for your mobile which doesn’t fit my apple 14+ especially when you cant fit a charging cable and the self charging system i dont know if it worked, it was a total pain getting my mobile out and the fear of dropping it so i tried blue toothing it when it it was in my jacket pocket, but the phone was hot..so switched the blue tooth off. I cant understand why BMW didnt just build in a sat nav system into the screen, after all it is a tourer! Im away to possibly get a Garmin sat nav fitted above the TFT screen, also why did they make the controls so difficult to use to get the heated grips and seat? You shouldnt need to distract from looking where your riding... Apart from that, nice bike to run. I find it a tad heavy compared to my previous BMW tourers.
I've given up even trying to connect up to this bike with my phone. It loses the signal all the time, and then you have to pull over, and mess around getting up and running again. This is my biggest disapointment with the bike, not using the nav, because of the stupid engineering. They should have kept the Garmin GPS nav, like before. I use a Garmin Zumo XT, and it always works, because it's signal is GPS, and not your phone Wifi. I also miss the analog gauges too. I use one of the favorite buttons for both the grips, and the seat heaters.
What tank bag do you use on your RT ? Does it interfere with the handlebar?

I don't think it would in the tank bag, and the map case is only 10"x 8".

I prefer the previous Gen just for the looks. Previous gen looks more fierce with the angel eyes. Would not comment on the tech and the new shift cam and all those new tech stuff, because I have never rode these before.
Not having the stand-alone guages is a issue, with the TFT, you have to be on the screen to change the music channel, and you lose the tachometer. The app based navigation (instead of GPS based), is the biggest disapointment, as the wifi signal is always dropping out forcing you to pull over and mess around with it. I don't even bother with it anymore, and use a Garmin Zumo insted, sadly.

Seems better with less burden, with less tech stuff.

Yes, at the light hub that goes to the top case. What's nice is it turns the top case light into a running light, and the brake light (the stock light is ONLY a brake light). No, you don't need the App running to listen to the radio. The radio/XM will work without any phone being connected. I had to fight with BMW to get the antenna for the XM replaced with a Sirrus antenna. @@motor8654 oh wow that’s interesting. I had a 2011 but had lots of issues with it so sold it. Have an Africa twin now and love it but want something more Road touring based. Not a fan of the new gs 1300 model they just released the design of. Looking for an RT even though I’m 6 foot 2 and kinda tall and cramped leg room wise I believe it still more smooth in the wind than an adv set up
@@19MadMax98 Get some Ilium Works engine guards and some highway pegs and that will help you stretch out on the bike, along with a Werks Quite Ride windscreen and you'll love it.

Not to change the subject, but I haven’t yet tried the XM radio on my new 2023 RT because I can’t get the damn Wi-Fi connection to stay linked to my cell phone for more than five minutes. The dealer has no ideas, and BMW Motorrad sent me a list of six suggestion for my phone. How about their damn bike. This TFT has been out for three years.
Sorry for this issue. I stopped even trying to connect it with my phone, instead I got a Garmin Zumo GPS and it works great, very user friendly. I could never read the side streets (small print) with the TFT on the RT. BMW bit off more than they could chew with this RT.
I bought a new 2023 1250 RT and I keep losing my Wi-Fi link between the bike and my iPhone 12 Mini. The routing isn’t lost, I get turn-by-turn on the TFT where the map used to be, but I need to use the Wiz Wheel to reconnect the map, which takes about 30 seconds. This happened six times yesterday on a 35 mile ride. Have you had any issues like this? The maps are already downloaded on the phone.
I've never had that issue, but many others. BMW bit off more than they can chew with this generation RT.
If you using an Apple Watch or something similar You’ll need to turn it off during your ride. I can consistently ride and no longer have any problems or disconnects issues.
It looks like you had no problem with getting the air bubbles out. I’ve never been able to apply these to my iPhone without permanent bubbles so I stopped trying. I just got a 2023 R 1250 RT, but I don’t know if I will have any better luck here. On an unrelated issue, if I can’t stop the TFT Map Wi-Fi from disconnecting every 10 minutes or so, I may sell the new bike and take the money hit. My Harley Boom Box never cuts out on me.
A heat gun on low helps with the bubbles. For the Wi-Fi makes sure the BMW app is always open, but it's still a pain. I don't use the BMW navigation but use a Garmin Zumo instead, very user friendly. BMW bit off more than they can chew with this bike, my last gen 2020 was more old school and more user friendly too.
Hi Lionel, does this work with an R1200RT 2008 model? I don’t see the cable you mentioned at the beginning of the video that comes with motorbike where you connect the Bluetooth device in my glove box. I have been looking for a solution like this for a long time but I just don’t know how to do it. My bike is a bit old (it can play CD and radio) but even the radio signal is not great so I have been thinking about how to make the speakers Bluetoothable but I don’t know if that’s possible with all models or only after a certain year? Any idea? Many thanks

I just took delivery of my 2023 R1250Rt, drove the bike home, read the manual, and took the bike out for a ride. The FM radio was working fine, decided to listen on XM Radio...and found the same issue, no reception, fading in and out, nothing. This was on a west bound heading, turning south, the XM receiver was working fine, but turning back home, I had the same issue come up. The "mushroom" antenna apparently loses signal due to the windshield blocking the signal, this from several owners that confirmed relocating a $22 antenna from Amazon solved the issue quickly. I haven't verified the windshield as the culprit, once the weather is nicer I am going to experiment with it, but it makes sense. A friend of mine has a new K1600B and his XM has been a point of frustration also, although he didn't think he had the mushroom antenna showing on the dash...he couldn't' remember because it made him so mad, he traded it in on a new Indian Challenger.
The XM Antenna issue is well known with BMW, make a video and talk to/ show your dealer what's going on (mine kept dropping when you adjusted the windscreen). After three weeks at the dealer it was replaced under warranty, but still a pain. Call BMW, and have your Vin# ,and file a complaint, 800 831-1117. Good luck. Thanks for the update, I will have to check my AM radio antenna, FM reception seemed very good. Sometimes I think the best thing I can do is fix it myself, as I have the "mushroom" sitting right on the dash, I may try to modify it by cutting it and putting a real XM antenna that would look nice and it would probably be a cheap fix under $50. But, since I have such good streaming stations to listen to, connecting that way and listening to music that way would be just as good as XM Radio, and is free anyway with very few commercials. Just got the bike, winter is on the way out so I will have time to think which is the best way to go...as I would NOT like to have the bike in the shop for any length of time!
