Bring Change to Mind

Bring Change to Mind

Bring Change to Mind (BC2M) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging dialogue about mental health, and to raising awareness, understanding, and empathy.

Actor & activist Glenn Close co-founded BC2M in 2010 after her sister, Jessie Close, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and her nephew, Calen Pick, with schizoaffective disorder.

Every individual who speaks out inspires another. And another. That’s how we’ll end the stigma around mental illness. That’s how we’ll Bring Change to Mind.

The stigma? The stigma begins with the psychiatrists themselves. They're the ones who do the stigmatizing.

Stigma is more painful than the illness in my opinion

Every single psychiatric label stigmatizes the person being labeled and as long as we continue to use psychiatric labels (contained within the DSM) to describe behaviors, psychiatry will continue to profit while the public suffers. No psychiatric label, no billing insurance. No psychiatric label, no drug prescribed. So until we stop using these psychiatric labels, which mean nothing other than what some psychiatrists decided was a mental “illness,” we will never stop the “stigma.” The psychiatric labels are backed by corporate interests not medicine, and not science.

Our society produces the vast spectrum of mental illness. It's (collective society) mental in itself. And no wonder considering the global war machine is the main driver of economy in the pyramid scheme.

So incredibly important to teach your children about how to care for their mental health! This is even more true when you're a family member who deals with mental health and helping them understand how they might be more susceptible - just like we do with diabetes, cancer, hypertension, etc. 😍

Stigma against mental health isn't the problem. It's the assumption that it can be cured like a disease. There's no cure for mental illness.

All I know is until it came to light now I see people excusing themselves to just stop fighting for their dreams. I see so many using this as an exuberant excuse to depend on others economically. I suffered my life with anxiety, bypolarism but had to swallowed it and go on to provide for myself. I didn't know what it was but I made it thru life, yes the hard way but I'm so proud of myself.

He had no place to live, no place go because he was denied the right to affordable, safe and decent housing because he has a mental disability. He was left in a homeless state in a crisis center for nearly 3 months begging with teary eyes to come home, to a home that he was denied by a Government entity because he has a mental disability, as proven in a court of law. He cried, "Moma, may I come please, I am sorry I have mental illness". He later said "To them I was not good enough to live with my wonderful and highly supportive mother in affordable and decent housing, I was only good enough to them because I have a mental disability, to live in BAD, SCARY AND VERY DANGEROUS group homes of A1SERIOUS NEGLECT, ABUSE, EXPLOITATION, HEALTH HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS and CRIMINAL INTERFERENCE WITH FAIR HOUSING". As an Advocate due to passion and a Fighter for civil rights with us all having such rights regardless of race or color, I am seeking to have someone to assist me with creating a Public Service Announcement to bring public awareness on the issue of illegal housing discrimination towards members of a protected class/ the mentally ill for public awareness and a change in behavior. The PSA will focus on a loving family of two, a loving mother and son who were separated by illegal housing discrimination as proven in a court of law. The son was denied the right to affordable, safe and decent housing because he has a mental disability. This lead to him being placed in facilities investigated by the NC Department Of Health And Human Services ("DHHS") which found them all to be with A1 SERIOUS NEGLECT, ABUSE, EXPLOITATION, HEALTH HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS and CRIMINAL INTERFERENCE WITH FAIR HOUSING. The son has been threatened in a Nigerian owned and operated group home by a staff member to go outside and fight with him. The "DHHS" documents called it to "tear up some grass". The son was also grabbed by the neck in another Nigerian owned and operated group home because he forgot to cut a light off. He also witnessed the same staff member fighting with another group home client. After the son was denied the right to affordable, safe and decent housing, the highly supportive, living and biological mother was then wrongfully denied the right to remain Legal Guardian of the son because she had no place for him to live. The treatment towards this victim of illegal housing discrimination as proven in a court of law is beyond words. In a group home his once clear face was bitten horribly by BED BUGS were these bugs were found in EVERY living space of the facility except the kitchen and it was infested with what looked like "German" roaches to an Exterminator. These roaches were found in areas where food and food supplies were stored. Photos of the males face as bitten will make you SICK! This home was with mold and many more horrible conditions. What is written here is just the "TIP" of the iceberg. The mother has nearly 50 pages of substantiation from the NC "DHHS". The case has created "Irreparable harm" and has likely become a "pattern" or "common" practice of illegal housing discrimination. Because the son reported the NIGHT MARE group home conditions to the mother who in turn reported such to the NC "DHHS", they have been retaliated against to the point of not being able to even visit each other and go to lunch and the like. Due to the illegal and proven housing discrimination, the mother and son will never be the same. There needs to be public awareness to this devastating case of proven in a court of law, illegal housing discrimination, which we call a MONSTER of INJUSTICE. If anyone has experience in creating a PSA or can assist me with such, it will be greatly appreciated. I can be reached by preferably texting or calling to 919-441-0443. It will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Show lessREPLY
