Almost every single one I’ve received has required tuning by a nib meister because it had a scratchy point. And I don’t mean feedback. I know the difference. But scratching and some were even so bad they were catching on my smooth papers and even making tiny tears. 😭

I am so glad to hear someone else say that their sailors are not great writers. Everyone keeps saying oh that’s just sailor nibs and I do not agree. I have one that is amazing and one that is so scratchy and really wears my hand out writing with it. I did a little micro mesh and it made it better but still nothing like my other sailor. I’ll be looking at getting it worked on as well. Thank you for the beautiful swatches, I’m going to have to pick up that Pinocchio.

I LOVE Oyster Hour. I love watching the way it changes as it dries and how it is light but readable. I have it paired in a TWSBI mini diamond white and rose gold in medium which is just pure love. It reminds me of tea spilled on paper. Or maybe I just have a problem with the amount that I love brown inks because now I think I need that Alexander ink in my life! I feel you with hit or miss FWP inks. I love how their standard inks perform but some of the shimmers gum up my pens even in pens that I know can take it, like a LAMY Safari <M>. I do really enjoy FWP Queen Allium in my Safari but it shimmers so heavily that sometimes the shimmer will smudge. It is still a surprisingly well behaved ink for me.

Oooh that’s a good idea! I have a juicy TWSBI mini rose gold with a medium nib too. I bet it would show up quite nicely in that one. And I think I noticed one of the shimmery pinks from FWP gummed up in my pens too. It’s really hit and miss! Thanks for watching.

Im also lefty, and that's been the reason I've been avoiding trying anything other than my one reliable safe pen (uni-ball eye). And it was actually terrifying watching you write left to right, rather than turning the book to write top to bottom! This was basically exposure therapy to anxiety triggers, and now I think I want to try a dip pen and ink samples

I have not seen the Van Diemans Alexander ink swatched, it looks amazing - it looks a little like Diamine Cocoa Shimmer? Definitely something I am going to have to try! I refuse to buy FWP inks b/c their bottles are terrible for my fountain pens. I know ppl use samples or syringes to get around their bottle design, but their inks are not so special or unique I can't get a better version from Sailor or other Japanese ink makers. Not to mention inks like Birminham that you put out here. As a fellow lefty, I can't say I've noticed a color that's better or worse. Obviously sheening inks, nib size, and paper have a big effect. I've learned to avoid smearing... and if it happens occasionally, I tell myself it adds character to the page :)

I 100% understand that. And you’re right there’s almost always an alternative to FWP From either Wearingeul or one of the Japanese brands and I would trust them so much more. I actually just grabbed a few bottles of Sailor Ink Studio inks this weekend and they are so delightfully wet. Definitely a new favorite for me.

@@Gildedlaceandpaper I also don't like the JHerbin 1660 inks which have a narrow opening but at least it's a square stable base. At a pen club meeting, I did get to try some of FWP inks and it's definitely quality ink. You can guess though which bottles toppled... (I was not associated w/ that tiny calamity b/c I was extra careful). Good to see you're making videos again. I'm really enjoying the Birmingham sheening inks and may try their shimmer inks after it gets restocked...

Hello, I would also suggest trying the Dilution Solution mixed with a few mililiters (mL) of the ink in an ink sample vial. That way if you don’t like what it does to the ink, you haven’t corrupted the whole bottle. Enjoy your BPC inks! Freshwater Bog looks great!

It sounds like you actually had more complaints about your VDS than the Gillio, 😂, i just use the clip on my pen with the pen loop, always have, i can see why some would rather have a bigger one though, im also one of those people who would pay extra for square corners, i just think they look neater, more clean, thats just me though. To each their own! Ive looked at VDS but when i really thought about designing my own i just wanted a gillio layout, 😂, so i just go with gillio, why pay 200$ more for those pockets i want? I also find that Gillio leather is just more durable all around, i spill water on my cover all the time and its never stained it.

I have Ambered Adobe inked up for November and I am loving this ink. I have Emerald Fusion and Tiger Lily in my cart. I would use the Tiger Lily for mixing with other inks. BPC has recipes on some of their inks. I am wanting to try mixing soon. It could be what you use the corn earworm for. Try mixing it with other colors in a little sample bottle and see if you get a color you like better. Enjoy your new beautiful inks.

Great video! I was between the caramel and forest green. I ended up ordering the forest green because i read that green was going to be my lucky color for 2024 and i need all the help i can get so i got the green! Haha! I think the indention in the spine is normal as the planner bulks up. Even Hobonichi does that when you bulk it up with all sorts of things in the pages. 😊

That's how stitch binding works. It bows in on itself to accommodate for bulk. My Stalogy is the same and what I love about this binding is that you can flip it back on itself without worrying about pages coming out.

Commenting on an old video feels so weird, but I wanted to thank you for posting this! Based on your comments, I added a sample of the Cuoio 6208 to my sample order, even though I was pretty set on the Janet Leather Brown at the time. Needless to say, the sample was amazing, and I just got my Cuoio 6208 codex a few days ago. It's the most amazingly soft leather I've ever touched. Everybody's all about the JL Brown, but I absolutely love my Cuoio, and I know I would have overlooked this leather entirely if you hadn't mentioned it. So thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts!

9:53 Dat sound ⚓😄 You can easily tell it's not a cheap plastic. I love it. I have tools to write, but I feel I can't stop myself from getting one Evergreen too. I'm going to try the one with gold nib. Everybody praises this smoothness in writing (both with steel and gold nibs). Can't wait to do that myself 🙂

Yes, I am using a B6 Stalogy and I did not have to modify the height or width dimensions of my VDS to fit it in with the Lauren Phelps Designs clear cover. It is a little tight, but with a little (and I mean little) effort you can definitely get it in. I think it fits nicely!

Hello there! Newbie to VDS! I just received my samples and am now making notes on layouts/measurements. I want this for my b6 stalogy which is getting chunky. After having this awhile are you still happy with the width? and I am wondering if I should order a long strap to accomodate the width of the stalogy. Thank you!

Hi Susan! So my B6 got chunky by the end of the year but it still snapped closed just fine. I wouldn't extend the standard strap unless you get thicker more than 1.75 inch. Right now my chunky stalogy is 1.125 inches (basically double it's original size) and I don't see a need for a longer strap. But I will say, if you like to use tabs and you go with two pen loops like I did, your tabs will bend so you may want to consider a wider body for that. I hope that helps. 😃

I just got in my B6 gray cover. I love the bags they come in. I have the B6 bag and the A6 bag and I use them to hold pens and water markers. I put stickers in the Moterm box.

@@trashtalkwithniki2483 so I said in my video that the pink was coming out a little lighter than true color but that isn’t actually true because when I was editing it I added a filter that makes it appear more true to color so when you see the pink B6 in the video that’s pretty spot on. When I got it I was like hmm 🤔 but then after a while it grew on me. It’s a nice pink, definitely not a super light baby pink.

I always order my Moterms from Amazon. I pay $40 for them plus free shipping with Prime and I get them within three days. All of mine have come in a gray velvet dust bag. I can't order from Ali Express or Jetpens, shipping is crazy and I don't have the patience to wait that long

I just ordered a taupe from Amazon and you’re so right! The difference was night and day. I got it in 2 days and in the velvet bag, that’s definitely what I’ll be doing going forward. I never had any issues with Jetpens though. I usually get their stuff in 2-4 days. Are they slow for you?

Agree I have had these post-it tabs for over 20 years and they still stick -bonus!! But the only pens that I could use on them are bic ball pens. I also prefer fountain pens but now keep a ball pen around to use on these.

Ariel Whittle that’s hard to say. I think as my B6 started to get a little chunky (and I mean very barely chunky) it now struggles to close. So I think, if your notebook stays pretty thin no worry to fit the cash envelopes but if your notebook gets chunky it may be tough.

It reminds me of tea spilled on paper. Or maybe I just have a problem with the amount that I love brown inks because now I think I need that Alexander ink in my life! I feel you with hit or miss FWP inks. I love how their standard inks perform but some of the shimmers gum up my pens even in pens that I know can take it, like a LAMY Safari <M>. I do really enjoy FWP Queen Allium in my Safari but it shimmers so heavily that sometimes the shimmer will smudge. It is still a surprisingly well behaved ink for me.
Oooh that’s a good idea! I have a juicy TWSBI mini rose gold with a medium nib too. I bet it would show up quite nicely in that one. And I think I noticed one of the shimmery pinks from FWP gummed up in my pens too. It’s really hit and miss! Thanks for watching.
Im also lefty, and that's been the reason I've been avoiding trying anything other than my one reliable safe pen (uni-ball eye). And it was actually terrifying watching you write left to right, rather than turning the book to write top to bottom! This was basically exposure therapy to anxiety triggers, and now I think I want to try a dip pen and ink samples

I have not seen the Van Diemans Alexander ink swatched, it looks amazing - it looks a little like Diamine Cocoa Shimmer? Definitely something I am going to have to try! I refuse to buy FWP inks b/c their bottles are terrible for my fountain pens. I know ppl use samples or syringes to get around their bottle design, but their inks are not so special or unique I can't get a better version from Sailor or other Japanese ink makers. Not to mention inks like Birminham that you put out here. As a fellow lefty, I can't say I've noticed a color that's better or worse. Obviously sheening inks, nib size, and paper have a big effect. I've learned to avoid smearing... and if it happens occasionally, I tell myself it adds character to the page :)
I 100% understand that. And you’re right there’s almost always an alternative to FWP From either Wearingeul or one of the Japanese brands and I would trust them so much more. I actually just grabbed a few bottles of Sailor Ink Studio inks this weekend and they are so delightfully wet. Definitely a new favorite for me.
@@Gildedlaceandpaper I also don't like the JHerbin 1660 inks which have a narrow opening but at least it's a square stable base. At a pen club meeting, I did get to try some of FWP inks and it's definitely quality ink. You can guess though which bottles toppled... (I was not associated w/ that tiny calamity b/c I was extra careful). Good to see you're making videos again. I'm really enjoying the Birmingham sheening inks and may try their shimmer inks after it gets restocked...
@@rsh8057 I like my Birmingham inks so far. I just don’t think there’s any universe in which I’ll actually finish their larger bottles 🤣.
Oh and btw. The Pelikan M800 is much heavier because it has brass inside, the M400 has not.

Hello, I would also suggest trying the Dilution Solution mixed with a few mililiters (mL) of the ink in an ink sample vial. That way if you don’t like what it does to the ink, you haven’t corrupted the whole bottle. Enjoy your BPC inks! Freshwater Bog looks great!

It sounds like you actually had more complaints about your VDS than the Gillio, 😂, i just use the clip on my pen with the pen loop, always have, i can see why some would rather have a bigger one though, im also one of those people who would pay extra for square corners, i just think they look neater, more clean, thats just me though. To each their own! Ive looked at VDS but when i really thought about designing my own i just wanted a gillio layout, 😂, so i just go with gillio, why pay 200$ more for those pockets i want? I also find that Gillio leather is just more durable all around, i spill water on my cover all the time and its never stained it.
I have Ambered Adobe inked up for November and I am loving this ink. I have Emerald Fusion and Tiger Lily in my cart. I would use the Tiger Lily for mixing with other inks. BPC has recipes on some of their inks. I am wanting to try mixing soon. It could be what you use the corn earworm for. Try mixing it with other colors in a little sample bottle and see if you get a color you like better. Enjoy your new beautiful inks.
Great video! I was between the caramel and forest green. I ended up ordering the forest green because i read that green was going to be my lucky color for 2024 and i need all the help i can get so i got the green! Haha! I think the indention in the spine is normal as the planner bulks up. Even Hobonichi does that when you bulk it up with all sorts of things in the pages. 😊

That's how stitch binding works. It bows in on itself to accommodate for bulk. My Stalogy is the same and what I love about this binding is that you can flip it back on itself without worrying about pages coming out.
Yep! Same happened with my Hobo Cousin and i don’t really bulk them up too much. Pretty normal occurrence, i think!

Commenting on an old video feels so weird, but I wanted to thank you for posting this! Based on your comments, I added a sample of the Cuoio 6208 to my sample order, even though I was pretty set on the Janet Leather Brown at the time. Needless to say, the sample was amazing, and I just got my Cuoio 6208 codex a few days ago. It's the most amazingly soft leather I've ever touched. Everybody's all about the JL Brown, but I absolutely love my Cuoio, and I know I would have overlooked this leather entirely if you hadn't mentioned it. Yes, I am using a B6 Stalogy and I did not have to modify the height or width dimensions of my VDS to fit it in with the Lauren Phelps Designs clear cover. It is a little tight, but with a little (and I mean little) effort you can definitely get it in. I think it fits nicely!

Hello there! Newbie to VDS! I just received my samples and am now making notes on layouts/measurements. I want this for my b6 stalogy which is getting chunky. After having this awhile are you still happy with the width? and I am wondering if I should order a long strap to accomodate the width of the stalogy. Thank you!
Hi Susan! So my B6 got chunky by the end of the year but it still snapped closed just fine. I wouldn't extend the standard strap unless you get thicker more than 1.75 inch. Right now my chunky stalogy is 1.125 inches (basically double it's original size) and I don't see a need for a longer strap. But I will say, if you like to use tabs and you go with two pen loops like I did, your tabs will bend so you may want to consider a wider body for that. I hope that helps. 😃

I just got in my B6 gray cover. I love the bags they come in. I have the B6 bag and the A6 bag and I use them to hold pens and water markers. I put stickers in the Moterm box.
I would love to see the gray next to a taupe. I almost picked the gray. That’s a smart idea for the box!!! 😃

@@trashtalkwithniki2483 so I said in my video that the pink was coming out a little lighter than true color but that isn’t actually true because when I was editing it I added a filter that makes it appear more true to color so when you see the pink B6 in the video that’s pretty spot on. When I got it I was like hmm 🤔 but then after a while it grew on me. It’s a nice pink, definitely not a super light baby pink.

I always order my Moterms from Amazon. I pay $40 for them plus free shipping with Prime and I get them within three days. All of mine have come in a gray velvet dust bag. I can't order from Ali Express or Jetpens, shipping is crazy and I don't have the patience to wait that long
I just ordered a taupe from Amazon and you’re so right! The difference was night and day. I got it in 2 days and in the velvet bag, that’s definitely what I’ll be doing going forward. I never had any issues with Jetpens though. I usually get their stuff in 2-4 days. Are they slow for you?

Agree I have had these post-it tabs for over 20 years and they still stick -bonus!! But the only pens that I could use on them are bic ball pens. I also prefer fountain pens but now keep a ball pen around to use on these.

Ariel Whittle that’s hard to say. I think as my B6 started to get a little chunky (and I mean very barely chunky) it now struggles to close. So I think, if your notebook stays pretty thin no worry to fit the cash envelopes but if your notebook gets chunky it may be tough.
