Sounds like bend of a Marshall and duel rec. At first it seems to be a rip off of the metal zone or empress heavy. But the pot values seem similar to the empress effects heavy or revv. I like the mt2w but the Jhs might be cool for a more useable and less extreme and actually mid boosted sound.

You think the Boss Metalzone sounds like a mix between a marshall and a mesa? What Marshall and what Mesa? If used for anything other than a boost the metalzone sounds like a Rat with a messed up EQ section.

My Tight Metal doesn’t need a boost, and it destroys the Hard Drive. Maybe the Hard Drive should used as a boost for taking an amp over the top, since it needs too much help to actually do metal. It’s a good “Hard Drive“ pedal, but not that impressive for $199 if you have any thoughts of getting a heavy sound from it.

The Splawn maybe nicer to play but the JVM sounds way better to me, more complex and articulate in the mids , nice defined top end and round full bass. The Splawn sounds overly compressed, blurry in the mids, not much top end definition, a bit like it has a tube screamer running in front all the time

If there was no original 5150 there would be no Iconic to begin with. That one amp, and Mr. Van Halen telling James Brown "that sounds like cardboard man...." when they developed it, provided a new wave of tube amp quality in much the same way as he did with guitars. What seem like flaws in the original were features that set that new standards. Quick break up on the clean setting? That's not a flaw, that's more often than not, desirable. Some would rather not have to really spank it to get it to break up when playing clean. The Iconic sounds much faster and tighter, not compressed, just faster response to input. Better op amps by now, for one thing, that allow more input response power available. I have to agree on this point that the transients in the sound of the Iconic, maybe call it "image" if there is such a thing but I hear a continuum from beginning to end. Maybe "definition" would describe it, it is pretty subjective. I admit I'm impressed with the overall dynamics and sound of the Iconic, and I own a 5150 2 and 6505+ combos. EVH as a company, just like with the guitars, seems seriously committed to the quality of all components, the hidden ones, but they show up in things like that punchier sound. Very subjective, but the point is clear. The original 5150, again, sort've set the playing field for all of these variations and improvements that now may outstrip the original, but they cannot deny the debt they owe it, and they do owe it a huge debt. I don't want to try and make my 5150 2 into an Iconic, I want the 5150 just as it is, but now I want an iconic because it sounds like it's own individual sound source with a new palate to explore all on its own. That's quality product development, that's dedication, that's "sound chasing" at it's finest. Now what was that the Mr. Van Halen always referred to himself as? Oh yes.....a "tone chaser." Sounds like he's still chasing tones to this very days. Let each amp be what it is, nothing lacking because it doesn't sound enough like another amp, it's just sound.

What voicing on the power amp are you using? Those have a switch for Modern/Vintage. BTW, those JMP-1 pres sounded great with T75s and Greenbacks. Also, if you like that tone then try and find an early JCM 900 DR with EL34s that was made before the tube scare in the early 90's when they switched to 5881s for a few years. Those are killer Marshalls if you do two things with them....1) Crank it to at least 7 and 2) use a shorty cord in the loop.

Man, let me straighten up that mess of advice your trying to share there, conventional guitar amp cabs are only fine most times (but not always!) for the task of connecting an electric guitar, the head or controls of the amp at such point can only get the player into the ball park tone wise okay! most guitar amps are either mic'd up or lined-in to a p.a. as the end game...a p.a. is the decider in that game only at a gig particularly, especially if it's putting a range or expected to put out the tonal range of all instruments and vocal treatments, keyboards. synths etc likewise etc, modellers usually have a setting enabling the user to set the thing toward the main output intention, whether they are made from wood or plastic is totally irrelevant, I repeat, totally irrelevant! there are plastic cabs or carbon fibre cabs that are capable of being more accurate tone-wise required internally included than timber designs likewise without a doubt. The important aspect is recognising the need for at minimum a 2 way system for a modeller or any kind, a conventional single speaker cab or even a so called frfr is NOT sufficient to capture of transmit the required frequency spectrum available within most modellers or emulators of such UNLESS it it 2 way!!!! ....any 2 way p.a. cab is fully capable of murdering any conventional amp 99.9% of the time if the modeller is set correctly on it's 'output to' intention only....there! I solved your mess for you my good man....your welcome!

it should become standard that capture packs should include specific settings for specific types of guitars and pick ups. For instance, I could not use your capture pack because I use a strat with a Lollar imperials which are vintage PAF style. I’m not sure I could use any of your packs as it seems you set your amps for metal style guitars and pick ups. I would highly recommend that for the future, or updating existing packs for that variety in customers. Otherwise, we can only buy from creators who are just like we are. Who use gear that’s only close to what we have.

Thanks for commenting and sharing your perspective. In order for me to dial in amps for those types of guitars, pickups and genres of playing, I would have to own guitars with those pickups and play in that genre. Unfortunately, I do not own any guitars with those type of pickups, I don't own any Strat guitars and I definitely don't play those types of genres of music. So even if I did own those types of guitars and pickups, I still don't play that genre and don't have any understanding of what you guys would prefer for what you do. I just stay in my lane and stick to what I know. I definitely don't want to pretend to know what you guys want. Again, thanks for sharing your perspective.
