Simply Ieva ESL

Simply Ieva ESL

Hello! My name is Ieva (with an "i" at the beginning and pronounced Yeh-vah)

I have created this channel to share helpful videos on ESL teaching strategies and tips for teachers who work with English learners.

You can expect to see videos about how to teach English speaking, writing, grammar and vocabulary. Also, frequently asked questions by you!

Teaching multilingual learners is both rewarding and overwhelming. I believe it does not have to be complicated and that simple steps will help you move forward.

I am based in the state of New Hampshire, USA. I would love to connect with you and answer any questions. Feel free to reach out to me on social media.

And of course, if you like what you see, don't forget to subscribe to this channel!

    I'm sorry this is far too advanced for English learners who don't already know how to write. You are speaking much too fast, you don't give examples and you use words like utilise instead of use. You have a lot to learn about teaching

    I enjoyed this interview greatly as it confirmed my reasons for why I am teaching in a foreign country, English. I am also ignorant to what all these acronyms mean. could you tell me what, ESL, ELL, MLL mean?

  • @simplyievaesl
    @simplyievaesl Жыл бұрын

    Thank you! ESL means English as a second language; ELL means English language learner and MLL means multilingual learner. In our field, there are a lot of acronyms about the same thing - teaching students whose native language is not English - and they are used interchangeably.

    Good day, I came to Zambia five years ago and am a new comer to your channel. I am teaching adults and children and really appreciate this teaching as I am beginning to teach grammar and writing at the same time. Most of my students, people going to school or adults who have never been, have struggled in their schools and community with not being taught proper English and how it is structured and spoken. I am not a teacher as the world looks at it. I was a struggling student when in school because of teachers who didn't look at how I learned things. Coming to Zambia I discovered most children are forced to learn English and are given everything in English and struggle with comprehension. So I therefore started to teach the way I wanted to be taught, as a child, and have seen students starting with the alphabet and vowels grasp and comprehend the lessons I have been giving. I am learning and then giving what I have learned to them. This sight is helping me in many practical ways how to proceed in this culture and what to look for in communicating and bringing understanding to the class. Thank you for your love for this and devotion to helping others do the same!

    Thanks fellow tutor, I will be using it intensively! I had an idea which I will try to put into practice - in order to promote conversation and interaction, I will try to assign different words for different students, and then ask them to create questions to one another which will have to be asked and responded using the voice button. Let`s see if it works well.

    Very easy to understand. I’m currently working with two ell students; one why speaks Mandarin Chinese, the other speaks Spanish. My must challenging task is to get them to understand the concept of “subject,” “verb ,” “singular,” and “plural” My Mandarin chines student may have issues with it.

    completely agree! students, especially newcomers, need to be eased into their new language environment. it is smart to allow the usage of the students' L1 to convey instructions and key concepts. it is hard on students when schools immediately require only English. this is a good method to prevent the students from feeling discouraged.

    Thank you !! These ideas are very practical and I plan to use them this week with my students. I am new to esl teaching though I have been teaching for 30 years in a variety of formats and age groups to native English speaking students. Opportunity presented itself to me with several esl adult students asking me to teach them English. I am working through the similarities and differences in approach between teaching nonnative speakers and native speakers . I’m not esl certified but I have a teaching degree. Do you think getting certified would help with understanding or can I educate myself through reading and videos like yours? I am using the English For Everyone series by DK publisher right now but I have a lot of questions...
