Awesome video, thanks for doing this! My driver side door latch doesn’t seem to be popping like the passenger side. Curious if you know what the issue is. Maybe a bad spring? I haven’t taken it apart yet because if it’s a simple fix I’d rather do that. Would love your thoughts. Thanks

I bet that the last time a 196 was dynoed, anywhere, had to be 50+ years ago!

no chance that motor has ever seen a dyno until now haha. what farmer out there cares about his HP gains?

  • @mec7568

Awesome! Cutting weight is a win-win. If you also lost the power steering and swapped out the box to manual, that would save another ~20 lbs, not to mention giving back a couple more HP.

Really cool. I hope everyone's alright and hopefully lessons learned will apply to the next build! Both the accident and the performance tweaks, I mean.

Could you do a Scout II door? Sean's video doesn't go into detail and now my window tracks are making the windows rub against the door paint. no room for the felts on the outer side. We belive it is an issue with the vent window guide track but unsure how to fix. thanks!

If you don’t want to make your own tool, buy the Powerbuilt steering wheel lock plate remover (about $20) with the 9/16 head. It will thread directly on and the prongs will push back the plate to expose the ring. This will also give you WAY more room than the square tube to get that pesky ring off. If you want to make your own similar to in the video DONT use 1” tube as he states. He is mistaken and probably using 1.5” square tube (ask me how I know). 1” square tube will not give you enough room to get the ring off as it will almost be touching both sides of the inside of the tube.

HI Sean, Great video as usual. These really help. Except my 77 Traveler already has a clutch fan so it doesn't come off easily. I ended up pulling the radiator, which is brass and way heavy. Hard to put back in by yourself. I already had the two upper radiator hoses off so not such a big deal, but how do you remove a clutch fan assembly?

One more time for those in the back... It's not patina, it's rust. Rust, abuse and neglect. Those attributes should not be encouraged or admired. Grow up and protect it with primer and paint.
