Entertaining travel and outdoor life.
We just completed all episodes of our Route 66 travels from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA. We have several national parks, presidential libraries we're currently working to bring to life here on our channel. Considering doing the Blue Ridge Parkway drive with a side trip to the Biltmore. Any ideas please leave them in the comments, love to hear where you might travel

Across the street from the henhouse when you entered Mitchell il around the 20:25 time frame is where the Bel Air drive in sat. That neon sign was at the state fairground in Springfield if you recall.
I didn't realize that, very cool! I had to go back myself to see it. Seems the more you look the more there is. Thanks for watching!
Really loved your Route 66 videos! We did the route from Chicago to LA in 2022. Best road trip ever. I relived my trip through your dash cam video.
Love hearing that, I have others I follow for the same reason. Thanks for the feedback
Did anyone get honked at while yall were at Forrest Gump point?
Surprisingly no, people politely exited the road for oncoming cars. I spoke to a local who said when the crowds come during the summer it might be a different story, good that we passed through there in March
Hello sir
The Wigwam's are so fun! Thanks for sharing your trip.
You're welcome, we had a blast on this trip and learned there is another wigwam south of us in Kentucky
You make excellent videos! There's no hamming it up in the camera, no stupid jokes, and no silly narration. Thank you! What I'm seeing in your Rt. 66 videos is just what I want to see; the places you are traveling with no nonsense narration. I wish you huge success with your channel.
Thanks, appreciate it!
Nice job.
Thank you!
Very nice. I never heard of the blue hole. Just the blue whale in Oklahoma. Cband satellite dishes are still used. Did you go thru Bernalillo from Santa Fe out to Grants?
Yes we passed through Bernalillio on our way south from Santa Fe then west from there to Grants. Interesting that Cband still in use didn’t know that. Guessing they have to decrypt the signal or are there still free channels with no encryption remaining? Thanks for watching appreciate it
@@WanderingBuckeyes There are a few good restaurants in Bernalillo on the old Route 66 . There are a few still unscrambled feeds on cband like Reelz, ABC, CBS (except for NFL). Most are encrypted. Sports feeds are the same. Most encrypted. Some are not.
@@michaelillingworth7476 We used several resources for our trip here's one that has Bernalillo called out. I hope to create a video once I get caught up to share how we planned, etc. www.roadtripusa.com/route-66/new-mexico/bernalillo-laguna-pueblo/. Thanks for sharing!
Good stuff 😎
Thanks Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
Thank you so much for this video. It answered lots of questions!
Glad it could help
Your son impressed me. Not many kids these days want to be a part of something like this. Very cool.
Thanks, appreciate it. It's been good for him. Sorry for the very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
BLUE MUSTANG!! Back in 95 , me and my dad did the same thing. I've still have my 67. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, appreciate it. I too had a 67 in the exact same color. Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
Do you have Instagram or another video showing how the car looks now .... you did a great job for rookies I plan on doing this to my son's 67 mustang at sometime in life.....
I have several photos and short video I think. I'll try to locate and post them on our channel. Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
Nothing personal, but you went the length of pulling the hood and trunk, why would you leave the door handles and locks on the car? You will have paint cracking around those areas in a short time.
Call us rookies, first time my son and I ever painted a car..
it looks a little dark in there to be painting a car
Yep, wasn't the best. Could of used much more light. It was my weekend special booth in my garage.
Thank you for posting this video. I'm buying a '65 mustang for my son and will feel relieved that i can put disc brakes on it without spending half the price i paid for the car.
Glad it helped and appreciate the feedback. Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
I have purchased the parts and want to use my old hub and 13" stock wheel. I am being advised by others that the 13" wheel will not fits over the caliper, so will not work. What size is your wheel in the video? Also, what year is the eldorado banjo line. The lines I have been shopping are all metric. I gather that this eldorado is standard and will bolt right up. Please advise as I am doing the conversion and will need to get a wheel and tire that will fit so I can get the car our of the shop in a couple of weeks. Thanks.
Mine are 14" rims. hydraulic hoses were from a 1979-82 Eldorado
Thanks for getting back quickly. What vehicle 4 lug fits. I have called around and nobody seems to know. Later mustang 4 lug, I am told, do not fit. I have googled but no luck specific to the 65 for a 4 lug.
I used my original Mustang 4 lug rims. Steel rims with hub spinner hub caps
Now I am confused. You said your rims were 14' and then replied that they were the original 4 lug rims. The original 6 cylinder 4 lug rims are 13", not 14". Please clarify. Thanks.
Correct mine are 14" 4 lug. Not an expert here on rims. I've read where Mustang's had 13" both 4 and 5 lug beginning with model year 64.5 and early 65 which later switch to 14". I don't know that 13" will work with the scarebird package you may want to inquire with them first. Hope that helps
do i need a disc/ drum master cylinder and a proportion valve for a mustang 65 6 cylinders?
Yes, from what I've read it's best to do that. I recently installed a dual bowl master cylinder and a proportioning valve. It improved braking some, but think I need to continue to adjust the valve to get it right...so not fully sure yet
Trying to respond to BLSMan94, but not finding your comments here any longer. You wrote "I read your video caption... so if I were to use a kit from scarebird I could go to auto zone and buy the calipers and pads and rotors and all sorts be well? I'm trying to gather info for conversion". Answer is yes, I did exactly that. I'm just now converting to a dual bowl master cylinder. Taking it out today to test drive.
Do you have to get new brake lines?
Daniel Schultze Yes just the flexible portion from the caliper back to the mounting hardware to the car. About 14-16" I think it was. Scarebird provided the exact part number to get
Hi, I'm doing the same kit but for a 67 Mustang from scarebird brakes. Like you, I also opted to get the hubs. What bearings part numbers or out of what application should I use?
Carlos Berriel I don't recall but when I purchased the hubs they came complete with bearings and seals from scarebird
If that's the case, SUPER! i'll find out as soon as they get here. Thanks!
Yes, I used the standard 14" steel wheel with hub cap. worked fine for me. There is some restriction on some rims and its called out on the vendors website. They provide a different arrangement to accomodate that
Well the original rims still fit over the rotors?
Yes part of reason why the hubs must be original or the after market kit I used. Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
Hi and thanks for your informative video, I just bought this same kit for my early drum brake 4 lug falcon, I hope you can help me..I can't work out where the odd shape clip goes that comes with the calipers, I can't see fine detail on your video. Thanks Cameron
Can you post or send to me a picture of it, not recalling a clip for the calipers. There is two for the spindle to help hold the group together until you secure the lug nuts. There's also a small u shaped clip which is used to secure the flexible brake line where it connects to the body of the car
Would those same parts work for 67 mustnag, 4-bolt front end, and im curious as to what would work for the rear?
Not 100% but the site where I purchased mine would know. Here's the link scarebird.com/
I recently purchased a 68 GMC 2 WD truck with bad drum brakes. Thank you for posting, I want to do a drum to disk conversion by myself (hope its gonna work) Rob
We love ours...was the easiest conversion I've done
Are scarebird brakes good? thab cuz u read some negitave stuff but they do my brakes for hard to find or nt really cared about cars wich is good
They're decent. I still have the single bowl master cylinder. I'm changing it over to the dual which is suppose to make the braking better. We'll see
good thing about them is they make kits for cars that no one else has disk brake kits for
Great video, lots of awesome info. Just wanted to give a little info for those also seeking to do the conversion. You don't really need to "dismantle" the drum to take off the backing plate. You can simply just unscrew the 4 bolts and remove the backing plate with shoes, etc still attached. Just use some vise grip pliers to hold the bolt that faces towards you/rim (because they do tend to move around) and then unscrew the bolt from the back. Worked for me and saved some time.
Agreed on the dismantle piece there. Great tip!
Thanks, I checked scarebirds and couldn't find the bundle you were talking about. I am working on a '65 V6 mustang with my dad and was looking into disc brakes.
I found that calipers I purchased from RockAuto. Scarebird provides a list by part number for the rotor, caliper, pins, brake hose, etc. I can send to you just hit me with private message on your email address. Use this link if you want to buy their hubs that will clear the calipers. scarebird.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=65&product_id=56. Then use this link for the bracket scarebird.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=65&product_id=93. You remove everything, mount their bracket $95, then either machine your orig hubs to clear the caliper (I bought theirs mine were worn, then use his install sheet on parts to buy locally off the shelf. Hope this helps.
Where did you get the rotors, calipers, and the hubs from?
Rotors ($19.78) and calipers I believe from OReilly's. Hubs I bought from www.scarebird.com bundled with the kit that included the mounts so I could attach the off the shelf calipers
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Looks good. I'm about to do the same thing.
Yes, I saw the falcon represented on scarebird.com website for parts. Process would be very similar in conversion. Contact them to get full details
Would this video help in converting my 65 Ford Falcon?
I would assume so as many parts are similar on those two body styles, though I've not seen it in person as a finished product. Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
Rotors, caliper, pads and bearings all purchased from local Autozone store. caliper bracket which is mandatory for this install was purchased from scarebird. I purchased from them as well the optional hub kit. Added more to my conversion but totally worth it, fits perfectly. I didn't want to reuse my old ones as well
Great video! Looking forward to the conversion on my '66. Where did you purchase the new hubs? Mine are in pretty bad shape and I'd rather replace than machine.
Got them from this site. www.scarebird.com/. Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way on this topic
I used the PPG Brands Shopline for the base color, primer, to save money PPG's Value Pro. A gallon of the base color with plenty left over, though I wished I had hit it another coat. 3 coats of clear, and because my last coat of clear didn't lay well I bought another quart to shoot it again. Everything cost about $500 including tape, plastic, sand paper, etc, etc. First time I painted so very happy with it, but I learned so much I'd like to do another to see how much I could improve
hey my name is rudy and i have some few questions becasue im going to start working on my mustang 1965
Your videos have been awesome! I plan on painting my 1966 at some point. What brand paint did you use and how much did you end up using? And how much did you spend for the whole project? The car looks awesome!
Glad it could help and kudos for bringing your son into the fold. My son and I have drawn so much closer as a result and it has built more confidence for him as he tackles challenges in life much like trying to figure out how to bring life back into nearly a 50 year old car
have had issues with other brake conversion as far as clearance does your 14 in wheels have a 2 1/4 in center hole and is wheel a 14 x 6
Glad it could help you. Been months now running on this conversion and still performs excellent. Nice mod to improve overall safety and control.
Excellent video. I am glad you created it, as it definitely helped make my mind up to perform the same upgrade using the Scarebird Deep Dish kit. With your video's help (and the hope my 69 Mustang coupe isn't too different from your 65), I am far more comfortable with the conversion process.
Single Master is still used. My plan is to eventually upgrade but will be some time. I'll try to post here once I do.
Hi There. Very nice. With this conversion did you keep a single master cylinder or did you also upgrade to dual? If dual how hard was it? What cylinder did you use?
I kept to the single but felt it didn't brake firmly. Planned on moving up to a booster since I've seen many do that for the disc brakes. Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
i Like it
I used the factory 4 lug 14inch steel wheels, clearance was great no issues after a couple hundred miles on them.
did you use your factory 14 inch drum wheels? i see this is the deep dish kit..did you have any clearance issues with the caliper?
No clearance issues, I had used both original steel wheels and later 4 lug alloy rims. Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
No it does not but imagine if you wanted larger rims you'd be fine to installl with this kit process. I've replaced springs both front and back and there is plenty of room to go up maybe even to 16" if you wanted to. Easiest conversion I've ever done and now with several hundred miles on the road they perform very nicely. Thinking of next installed a dual master maybe with power brakes...
great video thank you for posting your videos. we just bought a 68 with 6 cyl's for my daughter and me to work on over about a year --and your video's are prefect. Some more complete kits require moving up to 15 inch wheels...doesn't look like this solution requires that?
It did not, I remained with the 14" wheels later bought a set of alloy rims. Sorry for the very very late response didn't realize I missed many comments that came my way.
