Steve on the downswing I tilt back in an attempt to stay back with my center of mass and throw the club to 1 o clock while the lower body separates and rotates. This results in lower spine twist and a sore lower back. Any videos you have or recommendations much appreciated. Thank you

I learned and practiced Dan's swing many years ago - and I do remember once I got it down I was hitting straight always... but it was not comfortable to keep that going. I did however at that time hit my longest drive (400 yds) with that swing. I finally gave it up and came back to the standard Mike Austin swing, which is easier on my back, when I don't "try" to swing hard. After not playing for about 1.5 yrs (because of back issues) I came back here learn the basics again and amazing not long into a practice session at the range I was making great contact and hitting far and straight with all my irons - I am struggling with applying the same swing to my driver though.

Wow, Steve great video. I just went out and tested this concept. All i focused on was my right knee driving to 10 0clock as suggested. Flush laser straight shots, everything just seemed to naturally fall into place. Low point was excellent, same spot on every shot which is something i struggle with. Well done! Thank you, I truly appreciate your efforts.

Informative video. If you’re a lefty playing right-handed like myself and seem to have issues getting the club uncocked in the downswing with the throw method, is it better to try feeling more left hand/high hand dominant or will that still cause a pull instead of throw? Thx!

His swing is so balanced that the slow motion silhouette of his swing at the beginning looks correct as a right handed swing facing the camera and as a left handed swing facing away. It actually threw me for a second trying to understand what I was seeing

Your portrayal of an open club face in the downswing using a cupped left wrist is not accurate. Turn the left elbow down the line and use a strong left grip, which will result in a square club face down and into the ball.

I think the distance thing is SO overrated. If the longest guy was winning every week then I could see their point. The guy or girl who controls their distances to the pins and makes putts wins. That's what it comes down to. It's just a bunch of stiff suits trying to tinker w/ the game. You're in the entertainment business. No one comes to tournaments to see short drives. The USGA just doesn't get it, at all.

I had issues with pulls and lack of rotation until I realized how critical it was to unset the wrist and when. Now I aim to have my hands and arms fully extend (trail arm extension and unset of the wrist) about a foot and half behind the ball. During a swing, when the body is rotating properly, this action will have the club bottoming properly at the ball.

This absolutely works - but takes time to learn. The video that started me thinking about the left arm though was the Mike Austin video you showed where he swings the club with a rope attached to the club instead of the left arm. That was an eye opener ! Thanks Steve

Hello Steve, thanks for this video. This was the missing piece I was looking for in my downswing. Now I got in my mind the concept, and on the Driving Range I have test it. It works in a fantastic way, the problem is to make this movement more natural and not too forced (for me) because the tendency to use too much the arms is still strong. So now it is a training job, but the important thing is that i got the point. Thanks a lot.

the truth of the matter is. squat down on the way back as you raise when you swing your swing toward the ball your hips will do it naturally towards the fairway. like doing a soft ball fast pitch. right hand feels like it wants to come right into the left hand when your extended toward the target. I don't try to rowtate my hips going back just stay frontal your hips will turn some what. works for me . your right at 73. i never could get rotation and wrist hinge. the young can do it. But this way my body doesn't hurt and alot less mind thoughts trying to get everything timed up. Thanks

Please do another "Mike Austin" video, but topic on life stories about Mike. Like what Pros he hung out with, who famous he taught, and odd eccentric things that are funny. Like Mike's fake Scotish accent....when did start that? Mike was from the Southern US area. I think Mike wanted to be in movies also.

When you are still trying to break a 100, it makes no difference what balls you hit. You just hope that you can hit the ball correctly. No fat. No thin. Just solid.

Steve, I hope you see this. I fell in love with golf forty years ago at the age of 17 and was ready to retire a few years ago out of poor play and stagnation. For me, your style of teaching/coaching is magical. It had been so bad over the last four years that I was chalking it up to age and resigned to giving up. I'm not "fixed" but what an absolute turnaround I have experienced since tapping into your channel. I must admit that I'm not ready to share you with my playing partners yet. You are that good!!

Holy cow! You just described what many tennis players do improperly on the serve...it's called the waiter's tray where at the transition of the serve, their wrist is bent in a way where it appears as though they are carrying a tray of food! The proper way, of Federer and Pete Sampras is to do the opposite where the hand is pointing directly towards the ground...the food tray is upside down! It must feel like you are more stable...doing it improperly as the racket and the club must feel more supported...but I can assure you that I've never seen a 100+mph waiter's tray serve.

This is really good stuff. The only nit I could pick is incorrectly describing the movement of the shoulder toward the spine as abduction. It's retraction. I almost don't want to bring it up. Maybe I won't.

So many times, titles like "AHA lightbulb moment" are just click bait and nothing more. In this case, though, Steve is not lying. This is what the swing is supposed to be, and it's what most of us struggle with. For me, as a "stiff" 58 year old, this is not an easy move to pull off. It looks easy, but in reality it will take some time for me to get there physically. But why bother doing anything else? Every beautiful golf swing you see is derived from this motion. Thanks for the great video Steve.
