My interest in the music of Japan and David Sylvian started before my twenties, in the mid-eighties. I doubt that a teenager today would have the same interest in listening to albums like 'Oil On Canvas', 'Secrets of the Beehive', 'Brilliant Trees'.... Let alone the patience to listen to things like "Plight & Premonition" or "Flux + Mutability".....

@@matt_one hahaha with out a doubt thats true for his later stuff, i started listening to japan heavy when i was 17 and i was born in 2000, i think todays youth have pretty eclectic tastes and theres so much garbage being pumped out that i think a lot of young people would latch on to this stuff. @@hendog5667 I think it is always a mistake to generalize. As it happened to you just recently, many young people today could easily be interested to a lot of music from the past. It's the way and means by which music is consumed now that have changed tremendously, if I think about how I used to do it in the 80s/90s. I had no Internet and most of the music I owned was on tape. Even just going from one track to another was not so immediate, it was not a simple click. That somehow forced you to listen more carefully to an entire album, even the songs you liked the least. Now you have an amount of choice and a quickness in going from one thing to another that probably adversely affects the attention devoted to listening to anything. The medium used to listen also matters, so there are a variety of genres of music that you simply cannot listen to from your smartphone. You can't listen to “Secrets of the Beehive” through smartphone speakers, much less “Flux + Mutability” (which I had not cited as a negative example, since I love it).

This is superb, how you have melded these tracks to create a totally new song. I don’t know how or where you get the vision to even imagine such a combination. I’m so glad you added a vocal effect the spoken word bit in “Louise” too as I never really liked that in the original! Another masterpiece! 🎶

Did you know The Midnight? Great! Their "Endless Summer" album is a synthwave masterpiece. I know it's so easy to take the instrumental of a song and slam in some nice vocals from another song. @@matt_one The bass line is nuts enough already..... It seems to be half note higher transposed n then switching between a few songs inbetween n then back to pics.... There's so much going on I'm having a hard time pinpointing what I hear where.... Probably in my head but I hear small parts of High, Plainsong n a few others.... But by the same token, they do recycle a lot of their own material.... as most bands naturally

@thecreamyone3606 I often misinterpret the pitch of a song when the bass plays only with the drums. Then when the rest comes in, keyboards, vocals, I realise the true tonality.... Perhaps the same thing occurs here. Perhaps the very first two bass notes should have been an octave below. The feelings that music gives are always subjective, so if you feel like you're hearing other Cure songs in here, that's OK. In any case, I only used material from those two songs.

Im back, on replay this time haha this song never gets tiring to listen to. Its so beautiful and it calms me. But still that sadness lingers for Brandon, which will never leave. No matter how much you think you can get over it. At least for me. He was such a god given human that was not meant to stay on this planet. Its weird, but ive never felt this way for anyone in my life before. I guess i just have high respect for the man that he was. On film. Never met him in rl obviously. But you could just tell how genuine he was in his interviews. And the crow (with Brandon Lee)will always be my favorite movie of all time. Sorry haha i just love that movie so much

Yes, I think that solo would have fit perfectly, but.... at the time I didn't know the existence of this Faith And The Muse cover. Also, the original idea was to have just the Burn instrumental and Brian Molko's vocals. Many people told me that it would have been fine if I had added the vocals of this singer or that singer--that is, anyone who has done a cover of this song. Hard to please everyone, this is what I came up with....🥴

@@matt_one I mean, what you came up with sounds incredible anyways. I love how snugly all three songs mix together, there's no weird artifacts or weird phasing issues like so many mash-ups have, everything sounds natural. This is a top-tier mash-up imho.

@@thebarbaryghostsf Thanks a lot for your words! Technically is not a proper mashup, since I didn't use the actual instrumental of Burn, only some isolated parts and added many drum sounds, a synth bassline, some elements from the original Kate Bush's song.... It's more a hybrid than a mashup😄

Thanks you for listening and appreciating it! Basically is the same song but.... I isolated Robert Smith's guitar and reversed it, so technically the whole song is played in reverse. Then I added the other sounds trying to adapt them to the reversed guitar. It was rather funny!

Thanks you for listening and appreciating it! Basically is the same song but.... I isolated Robert Smith's guitar and reversed it, so technically the whole song is played in reverse. Then I added the other sounds trying to adapt them to the reversed guitar. It was rather funny!
