I've never heard Corona with so much distortion, and I love it. It bums me out so much thinking about all the great musical possibilities that died with D. He (and they) were brilliant.

Saw them open in 1989 for REM in Birmingham. Thought to myself “who are these guys… probably gonna be terrible..” then saw them come out, and as an acoustic player myself I was mesmerized. Then Stipe came out and sang on Kid Fears and I was absolutely hooked. Tremendous talent

I listened to this music back in the 80s and really liked it. Appreciated Rockpile and Edmunds and Lowe's stubborn focus and individuality in insisting on curating these songs. But listening to it again nowadays, my feelings are different. British and Welsh guys trying to sound American Southern just seems silly and pointless to me. It's really just a jumping off point for creating their own sound, but in my opinion, they never quite got there. Nick Lowe went on to write some very distinctive and eccentric songs, but often singing them like a depressed old man, and he lost me. Basically this bunch here are gifted copyists and I'm sorry I can't enjoy them so much anymore. They were seeking something that doesn't seem worth seeking without that intense creative desire to just make a new noise. No wonder Punk took hard root in Britain at the tail-end of the big bloated stadium rock era amidst these people and their mates who just wanted to recreate 50s rockabilly. I mean, the world had heard all that already by this time, but I guess if you're drunk most nights in a pub by your own choice, it doesn't much matter to the audience or to you as a musician. These guys were great in their way, yeah, a UK treasure, but they stalled at this point. There's more to musical adult life than smokes and booze and rockabilly. These guys just seem like old teenagers now, seen through this 1979 framework. And they're all late 20s into mid-30s. They needed to reach a bit higher and for Lowe to maybe smoke, drink, and drug a bit less. Would've given him some perspective. Yeah, just my opinion. But it's the one I have arrived at over the years.

I’ve never heard them say this so it’s just my opinion, but “indigo” is blue. And not sure if it’s the same today, but back when they started out, gay bars had a blue light out front as a signal that it was indeed a gay bar. Artists like Melissa Etheridge, even made reference to working in the blue light bars of Long Beach. I’ve always thought the Indigo girls picked that name as a wink to their female fan base.
