This video has entirely changed the way I listen to music. At 2:16, John says, "Don’t get your mind in that position where you’re just judging each song for whatever you can get out of it. Just listen to it for what it is." That's actually really profound. I used to look down my nose at 95% of the music I heard (including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, unfortunately) because I thought they were "sell outs" or they weren't in one of the genres that I liked, or I didn't like the sound of the singer's voice, or whatever, but I realized I was sort of comparing every song to a standard of what I thought good music was, and if it didn't meet that standard, I would dismiss it. It's incredible how much good music you'll miss out on if you do that, though. Now, I find that if you put a bit of mental effort into it and try to find something cool about a song, you'll open up a whole new world of good music that you used to think was crap.

Agree .. that part has always stuck with me too. "Just listen to it for what it is".. and there's another interview with John somewhere , where he says "music is made for you to listen to" and that too has opened my mind to so many things I would normally not listen to or maybe wouldn't appreciate.

I don't think that there has ever been a band with a frontman who is as instrumentally untalented as RHCP. Anthony just DOES NOT want to learn an instrument - and that's kinda cool, because he's "playing" with some of the best instrumentalist in rock history, who just happen to play in the same band

He's clearly coked up here. Yeah, I understand as a former musician myself that they're proud of their new album and all. But you can't really expect everyone you meet to be in love with each and everyone of your songs. Sure they've got some good songs. Under the bridge and couple from Californication are bonafide classics, great that trandenscend genres and can be appreciated by most. But it's not like it's been scientifically proven that all RHCP songs are masterpieces or anything. Me, I can't stand this band for the most part. Execpt for the ones mentioned before.
