I am having a hard time finding society finches at the pet stores. I used to get them from petsmart. They don't sell them anymore but they sell zebra finches zebra fences a little bit too loud for me. I have an apartment. Can you help me on this matter.
I'm in Utah too. Would love a bird buddy maybe to trade with or buy from.
Yes absolutely.
this video must have taken a lot of hard work....thank you for putting in that effort. it is very helpful.
Thank you!
Hey Birdnerd, could you please make a video about breeding Owl Finches or st.helenas waxbills please? Thanks
Great idea! I have never owned any at Helena waxbills but I have owned and bred owl finches in the past.
Have you breed owl Finches
I have in the past yes.
@@birdnerd , are they easy to breed
How do we DM you?
Reach out to me on Instagram @birdnerd4
😊How old do they have to be to start breeding 😊
Hey Chris, what's your info on fb so I can message you there? Can't find you on fb
Great video! My pair also just fledged 4 babies couple days ago and they have been so prolific.
That’s so awesome. Do you breed them individually or in an aviary?
Every birds price is going down in india and going up in USA.
👍
Thank you for that... we have a pair of Red faced and a pair of Yellow faced.. .but yet to give us any chicks... Cheers for sharing...
Thanks. Yeah they definitely seem to be tricky to breed.
Glad to be here. I have a pair of stars. Not been breeding.
Not to do with this podcast but something I’ve noticed in other videos, have you tried sand instead of wood chip on the aviary floors, a lot less messy looking but I guess the down side is is that it doesn’t soak up as much water.
I have heard of people using sand as the bottom and I’ve heard positive and negative things about it. I’ve never tried it but I do like the look of a bottom sand floor.
Your Spanish is great Chris
Gracias amigo!
I have white zebra. Normal zebra and brow and white zebra
Very cool. Yeah the white zebras are very pretty.
Talking about buying birds, I have a pair of Yellow Bishop for $140 dollars. A pair of orage Bishop $200 dollars . A pair of Java finches $240 dollars. I have four shaft tail ready to go. I do not know their sex.
Are your shaft tail normal colored? Do you have your bishops together? I e heard they are pretty aggressive.
Hola muchachos , conmigo pueden practicar español. Yo soy primera generación de Venezuela , ahora soy gringa 😊. In Spain the Lady Gouldian are call DIAMANTE DE ORO , translate Dimond of gold.😮.
Bueno! Me encanta los diamantés de oro!
I’ll translate your podcasts to Tagalog and ilokano 😂😂😂
Sweet yeah I’d be down for that.
Beautiful Birds! Where can I buy those breeding cages?
I have seen them occasionally on Amazon the buyer that I bought mine from several years ago does not make them anymore.
Thanks guys! Great fun!
Thank you!
I can translate the podcast in greek if your interested 😂😂
Awesome! That would be great.
Wow so many new episodes! Keep them coming :)
Thanks for watching.
I love your birds i have an aviary too and i love itnow im retired so i really enjoy happy fathers day from egypt
Thank you! What birds do you have in your aviary? Thanks for your support!
I have them and they breed in the aviary i feed them the normal diet eggs greens and so on but i dont give live food but they get live stuff from the floor because is hearth and compost all my birds do very well !try to put any material outside around the corner nest
Thanks for sharing.
Yes my bids mess up all the real plants in the aviary so i mix real and fake the all year then i take or add new and old
Yeah I’m starting to add some fake to the aviary as well to try and give some variety.
I think i had birds all my life but now im 68 home with a little garden and an aviary im happy dont need anything to be busy with all the animals!
Yes they can be very demanding and take up a lot of time.
Is there any breeding seasons, if so what are the months ??
For zebra finches they will breed all year round if you let them. I would recommend to not let them breed until spring and summer months when it’s warmer so that the chicks don’t get cold.
Where do you find local people to buy seed from?
My seed I buy from a local mill. Others buy their seeds from local pet shops or they reach out to seed companies and have the seed shipped in to them.
@@birdnerd ok thanks
I would appreciate it if you can tell me
Hey, rich. It's Pete from Chicago. I'm having a hard time finding society fences. I can't find them anymore. Petsmart don't sell them anymore. And some other pet shops don't sell them anymore. What's going on? I want to get 2 more and what do you do if you have a sick society?
You could look on Craig’s list and see if there are any local society breeders in your area. If it’s sick you can give it a broad-spectrum antibiotic or contact a local vet.
You guys need to get into collecting inverts for a while.
I have thought about it.
@birdnerd Once you find a favorite the obsession never ends. I've been thinking of getting some canaries. I moved into a place where the property owner has chickens with slate walkways and brick planters I'm helping systematize things, she's probably going to downsize the chickens and take on some birds. There's high ceiling bird aviary already behind the coup so.
Wow that’s awesome. Yeah you should encourage her to get some different birds to put in there.
I’m guessing a serama chicken. I had them years ago and the eggs were about that size
Yes you’re correct. They are growing fast. How was your experience with them?
@@birdnerd They are super cute and confident little guys. The rooster crow is hilariously small and quick. The hens make excellent moms but are very protective of their babies. They will chase you away.
Love it! Thanks for the update I’m super excited for them and my kids are loving playing with them every day.
I wish you luck in the future and forever I’m going to raise button quail
Thank you and same to you. Best of luck in raising your quail
Dude. Time to write a book. That is by far the best video on the process of breeding. Nice job and thanks a million!
Thank you! I appreciate your feedback. A book may be in the cards down the road.
Silkies????
Nope
Hi there. This is my first time trying to breed canaries. My female just laid her first egg. Do I leave male in cage when she’s done with her clutch or move him? Thanks !
The males can stay in with the hens as they will help them raise the chicks.
I agree with below. If it's the smallest then it's the Serama bantam breed.
Yes you are correct!
Serama Chickens
Yes that’s correct
Very sweet, I did this many years ago when I had lots of aviarys. I had Chinese painted qual, and also a pair of Californian Qual too. The Californian quail actually sat on around 20 eggs in a box off the ground, around 5ft , and only one chick hatched, the rest were infertile. They raised it and it was a female. Loved your video, they are like little bumblebees 😍
Very cool. I’d love to have some California quail but they are a little too skittish to keep them with other finches in my current set up. But I do have lots of wild California quail in my community.
I never caught the names of them
What type of quail did you hatch
I hatched both button quail and serama bantam chickens.
Your channels' blowing up 😮 nice intro music
Thanks man. I appreciate your support.
Thanks for the video excellent!
Glad you liked it!
Another great video Chris! Congrats on all your success either way your birds!
Thanks a bunch!
Funny you mention a cage from a book shelf. When I got my first gouldians, I bought out a breeder. He had built a breeding set up from a 4 drawer dresser. Pairs in the top three, used the bottom drawer for poop collection. It worked great.
That’s a good idea for a cage. Love it!
Hey how many buttons quail do you have in each section and how many males with hens
I try to keep it at a trio in each cage 1 male to 2 females. My one cage has 1 male to 3 females.
Great update Chris, so many baby chicks... well done. We are still waiting for our Stars to breed, they have a couple of trial runs, but not followed through yet... Thanks for sharing...
Hoping for the best. My two pairs have done several trial runs before they hatched out any chicks. Keep at it.
