I am trying the 3-second eccentric exercise, 6 times a day and 5 times a week for about 5 mos. now, and I did experience improvement. But sometimes I overdo it by either using too much heavy plates, or by prolonging more than 6-seconds the lowering phase, that DOMS kicks-in the following day that I get lethargic to go to the gym. May I ask, should I suspend training while my muscles are sore, or is it safe to continue eccentrics exercises (anyway, it's only a single 3-second lowering rep exercise)?
I am glad to hear that the 3-second eccentric exercise has improved your strength. It is a great effort that you have been doing it 6 times a day, 5 times a week for 5 months! Do you mean you do 6 eccentric contractions a day for each muscle? I just wonder the intensity of the exercise. I do not think that it is necessary to increase the contraction time - 3 seconds are enough! When you get muscle soreness, and you get lethargic to go to the gym, it is an indication that you are doing too much. You can have a rest. Please note that muscles are built and get stronger when you are resting - muscle is not built during exercise but is built during rest. I need to know more about what exactly you have been doing to make more comments. So, please feel free to contact me by e-mail to [email protected]
