    humm you are able to water start so it must be windy but you are not getting up to speed. What sail size were you on?

    I was on a 5.3 sail. Probably not enough for the conditions. I was having to wait for a gust to actually do the water start. So it wasn't overly windy.

    Oh, you're there OK maybe not so cold winter as we get here up in Finland then and the dangerous aspect of the cold water is less to worry about.😊 We go on ice with different sleds when it freezes. It's just to jump on and go, easy compared to the summer. Of course there are other things to think about regarding safety but it's nice as long as temperature don't go much below -10 degrees celsius. We had a period of -30 and the ice last winter and the ice got great. In the spring we could go everywhere🎉Is it a 120 Fox you got? It could carry a ~8 sqm. 😉

    Yeah we can windsurf all year round. It was probably about 12 degrees the other day. Ice sailing/windsurfing looks like so much fun. Where I am nothing ever freezes. It was -1 the other morning and that is about as cold as it gets. The Fox is 140 litres, my first board. It will be my light to moderate wind board from now on.

    Sorry to say that looks like a complete disaster but well done considering a SUP board & paddle would be the better gear to go out with. A little frustrated to the similar situation around now with no wind att all, sorry for negative comment but 😂Wait until the conditions are right, you need more wind for this and for the Fox also seen in other videos. Put on a bigger sail in a little more wind with the fox if you got one, I dont know what sizes and what you're on but looks small. You must get hooked in & in to the straps and magic will start to happen when you do it enough and catapult some times. Sooner or later you will get there. Choose the right gear for the conditions is important and could even be dangerous going with too small stuff if it's not windy enough. It's not cold now but could be depending on where and when on the planet you go out. You're right on doing well considering low wind and first try on that. Keep it up and look for white horses on the water, then go and that thing will be great companion with the sail you got.💪so will the fox also be when there's enough wind.

    Hey there. Thanks for the comment. I know exactly what you are saying. I did get easier as the wind got up towards the end of the session. It's winter here in New Zealand so quite cold. I was using a 5.3 sm sail. I was being a little conservative as it was a new board for me and wasn't too worried if I was underpowered. Also the forecast was for 35 knots in the afternoon and it did really kick in just after our session. A 6 metre probably would have been better. The good thing about where we sail is that at low tide it is shallow 100 metres from the shore line so I was only taking short tacks out knowing if I got into trouble I could walk in. I'm looking forward to my next opportunity on the small board as I felt I have already learnt a lot on it. I'm sure it will also make getting back onto the Fox much easier. Cheers.

    I was feeling very weak too, still recovering form Covid and then a cold. Our main problem when it is light wind is the tide. It pays not to go too far away from the shore because if you run out of wind you'll get swept out of the harbour.

    Hi Tibor. I think we are blessed in Auckland. It takes 20 minutes from my house to get to Point Chevalier. 20 Minutes in the other direction are the west coast surf beaches. We even have a fresh water lake in Auckland, Lake Pupuke. It's actually a volcanic crater. The lake sailing in your videos looks nice though. The water is very dark, maybe that's just the contrast between your white board. You are very committed to travel that far for windsurfing.

    Hi Stephen, it's me again ! may i ask you one question ? How old are you ? I was 55 years old, as i started to windsurf.😊 Now i am 61. I saw in your video (2:40 - 2:50), that you hesitate to use your harness under this wind conditions. So you had to hold the sail only with your arms and counter all gust with your power. My experience is: this does not work.😮 At the end you will have no power anymore /be exhausted and in the worst case also injuries (e.g. strain). You have to use your harness with full commitment (full weight in and move your ass down). I know the feeling to do this is horrible, and you feel as a victim.....and of course you will "fly" (canonball).... but this is the only way to keep everything under control (to be honest: more or less. The nature / wind is allways stronger then you !). Kind regards from Germany...and keep going !

  • @dela1968
    @dela19683 ай бұрын

    Hi Tibor. Yes you are right. I was actually using the harness a lot more in the second half of the session. It was when I was starting to get tired, but also when I didn't have the camera. My two best runs were not on camera but were also in much more control once I got used to the gusty conditions.

    Hi Stephen, you have really great conditions. Here in Germany it is still cold. I saw in your video, that you habe plane a few times. Thats great, but one question: why do you don't use your harness ? It gives you more stability on planing (i saw, that you struggle with constant planing. Your sail becomes "nervous" and you couldn't counter with your weight against the power of the sail). I know, at the beginning of usage of your harness, it's a strange feeling. But try it ! Kind Regards Tibor

  • @dela1968
    @dela19684 ай бұрын

    Hi Tibor. You are exactly right. I have to spend more time in the harness. I do have confidence issues with the harness and when it is as windy as it was I don't feel comfortable at all. I need to force myself to do it. Thanks Tibor.
