I worked with Miss Loudon in the mid-80s when she graciously donated her talent to appear in a benefit performance for the Off-Broadway L.O.O.M. (Light Opera of Manhattan) at Playhouse 91 in New York. She was a delight in person - as bright and bubbly and as funny and friendly as you think she would be from seeing her on stage. ❤

Sondheim was always prescient. That's why he was rarely popular after writing the lyrics to 'West Side Story,' which he later claimed never to have liked. In fact, in an ABC interview, he said: "My 'West Side Story' lyrics are embarrassing."

This is the single best sung version of the sung I’ve ever heard. And she’s very witty and moving on top of that. Very underrated singer.

Choreographer Michael Bennett, music arranger Marvin Hamlisch, and a couple of the dancers worked together again a few years later on a show called "A Chorus Line," which might not have existed if it hadn't been for this show.

Simply a dream cast: A brilliant comedienne and a stately, solid baritone. Very clever songs, too. One in particular: "Wait 'Till We're Sixty-five." Just listen to that one today!!! Glad I saw the original production!

On the S. S. Bernard Cohn Number, I realize this was staged for TV, but the choreography makes them all look kinda spastic. The point in which all 4 of them are kicking in unison is amazing, but the dancers are all over the place and they are all suppose to be on a boat. Really no indication of that suggested in the choreography. This number was cut in the movie. The revival with Harry Connick Jr and Jesse Mueller staged the number as if they were definitely on a boat.

Patricia Neway was the greatest even though she didn't modulate after the second bridge like she did on the recording. But still the best version. Another great LIVE performance was by the late Celene Pérez who sadly passed in 2020.😢 kzread.info/dash/bejne/k3iixqOyqbnOk9I.htmlsi=ExOcTqeGh7ZXo3jt
