80s LOVE - OG & Reissue Skateboard Decks

If you love the 80s as much as I do...I think you'll enjoy this channel.

I want you to feel like you're hanging out in the skate shop with your crew...watching the latest Powell-Peralta Bones Brigade VHS video and drooling over the latest Transworld or Thrasher mag. This channel is all about the sounds, smells, graphics, colours and good times of skateboarding in the 80s.

    I know this is 3 years old, but I was his neighbor in Carlsbad. I was a 12 year old paperboy and would knock on his door and ask to buy decks and stickers etc..I would use my earnings to buy decks and wheels and stay was always so damn cool and generous. They were stoked that I loved skateboarding so much. Sean Mortimer was just as rad and I’m eternally grateful to have that experience as a kid. RIP Ray. Such a bummer

    Awesome review/deck/channel! I literally just purchased this deck too! I'm kind of partial to the White Dipped Powell Peralta Decks. I still have my Original OG Powell Peralta Tony Hawk Iron Cross Boneite XT in Dipped White with the Pink Background when I was a kid learning to skateboard! It has never been drilled for Rails or Tail or Nose Skids/Protection. It has No Name Trucks, No Name Bearings/Risers and I chose Neon Pink Griptape and Neon Green Mini Rats 95a wheels to put on it lol I love it still so much! This McGill is the closest ReIssue to my Hawk I can get so far in White. I've been waiting for Powell Peralta to ReIssue the Hawk in White! I can't afford an OG Original White Hawk let alone find a White Hawk that is NOS Perfect still wrapped in plastic! I love the Old School Reissue decks. I have a few of the PP and other brands. I spent a lot of money at the time for a "2nd -C" 7Ply Hawk Iron Cross in Black Mint NOS in Shrink wrap and I have the ReIssue Black Hawk too now to match it. My older cousin had a Kevin Staab Pirate deck which I thought was the most sickest graphic! I was lucky as I purchased a PRS Punk Rock Skateboards Kevin Staab ReIssue deck in Orange. I hope Powell Peralta will ReIssue the Hawk in White Dipped soon so I can afford a New Mint NOS deck of my original one! I subbed to your channel cheers from Canada!

I have no clue what happened to my decks...the only thing that I managed to get my hands on was my first set of Indy 169s (Stage 5s). I agree...the Staab Pirate deck is killer. My buddy still has his Mini Pirate which is so sick. I'm positive that you get your Reissue Hawk at some point. Thanks again for the comment. Cheers👊🏼

    @@80slove OH HAPPY CANADA DAY too! Mine was chill, I gave my shift away at work lol. But, it was drab and rained all day. Yes I tried to keep my OG Hawk as best as I could. I have 3 pics of it. Maybe I can email them to you. It has a bit of razor-tail but thats it, couple dents scratches and normal kid skate wear. I even have 3 Vision Street Wear Stickers and 1 Pink Chip & Pepper Sticker on it :D I remember in skate shop going in with my friends, where my dad bought my Hawk for me.....I was always deciding between the Mike McGill Skull & Snake Bottlenose, Caballero Street Dragon or the Hawk. I chose the Hawk! I would have been happy with any of those really. Yeah the Staab deck has totally stuck with me as it was the ultimate cool graphic, other than my own Hawk Chicken Skull Iron Cross. I watched my older cousin and his friends skating his Staab in a grocery store parking lot. They were board sliding the concrete parking stall blocks and stacking each others OG Big Ramp decks on top of each other and taking turns ollie'ng them! To me that was insane with those heavy big boards! I'm hoping too soon I can buy some New NOS White Hawk ReIssue Decks! I would be soooo happy. Take care keep up the great channel/vids!

Now take their input with a grain of salt...they like to low ball sometimes especially if they're interested. If you can find something similar that has recently sold on ebay that will give you an indication of what someone is willing to pay...you have to search 'sold' items though. Sick deck. I like the yellow stain. I was just noticing on Powell's website that that deck shape does come with different concaves. If you do a search for "Skate One Specifications", you will see a page that lists everything out. SP0, SP2, and SP3. I hadn't realized that that was the case. I want to say the latest red one is SP0. I wish they would re-issue the Barbie deck you have on the wall. I talked to someone at Skate One and it didn't sound like they will. I think they said something about how Barbie didn't want to do it since he has his own competing boards on another brand.

    The re-salers are lame af. Look at jordan shoes. That market is INSANE. Nothing special either. Just another Chinese made Nike shoe yet people go nuts because a material was dyed a different color that year. Skateboarding doesn't represent that market and that's what he means. He explains that doing what he did was basically to help get street plant up and running. It was for the greater good of things for the future of the company. People love and respect the meaning of this he understands and wants to serve it to those people but not flood it so people take advantage. Best way is to limit purchases. People with money will buy a ton of them, buy them out before others that can only afford one yet would actually appreciate it and keep it. But the other guys just buy to sell them for double the money only because they had the funds to begin with. There's a huge problem with this in the auto industry too. The Z06 corvette was a disaster IMO. It totally ruined what that car represented and made it unattainable for the original target buyers. Dealers took advantage of that also. It's a morality topic. Mike is a core guy. I understand where he's coming from

  • @80slove
    @80slove2 ай бұрын

    Dude...I appreciate your perspective for sure and like you said...every form of collecting has it's problems. But this market and these boards are selling to an aging group where most of us struggle to get out of bed lol. I love Mike Vs commitment to the culture but he is contributing to the collecting world just by releasing Barnyards. I know it's a struggle for him but he still drops limited run signed decks which perpetuates the resale market...the market he says he hates. I personally love collecting of any type and the resale market...I think it ads to the uniqueness of a collection. Don't get me wrong...it's frustrating to see someone buyout a shop on drop day then to resell the next day for way more but I don't see many sellers selling under retail so I guess most of the skate community is flippers...it's just a matter of whether it's the next day or a year later. Thanks for the comment dude...I truly appreciate and like getting into the more thought provoking comments. Cheers 👊🏼

They have a nose and the "Modern Concave" is not that aggressive. • @80slove
    @80slove2 ай бұрын

    The relationship with Vision and their skaters is pretty detached. In some cases I guess that's good and in other cases it blows for the skaters. My understanding is that the Skaters don't see a cent on any reissues so no concerns on Mark seeing any money from this graphic. It's difficult because this graphic doesn't just represent Mark...but a time that many of us fondly remember. My memories of this graphic or other Gator graphics is that of my friends skating them. When I see this graphic is more about those memories with my friends than the skater himself. The dilemma is real though.

  • @RNicolasRuvalcaba

    @80slove2 ай бұрын

    @@RNicolasRuvalcaba I hear you. I think the argument from the other side though is...they're not capitalizing off that situation but the iconic graphic that sold millions of boards before that situation. I hope no one would be buying that deck because of what Mark did...but as I mentioned before...for the memories of skating that graphic with their crew. I'm not picking a side here...it's a hard one to navigate. I can see both sides: 1) People wanting the graphic for the memories of skating with their friends. 2) people wanting nothing to do with it.

    I’m thinking about building one of these to skate! I started skating again at 40 20 years off and I fell in love with it again. Started with a popsicle girl went to a heroin eggplant shape and then found the reissue of ripper got that and never looked back. Built a nikky Guerrero mask which is my favorite with 169s and just built a Santa Cruz cave in with 215s so I have the 215s in case I want to go bigger I will never skate a popsicle again. These things are so rad to skate and make you want to do different tricks and just get that 80s Flo going. The skaters from the 80s had this style about there skating you only see in the old timer skaters and I love it. Everything was so clean and calculated . There airs were a spectacle to behold! So glad I found skating again man teaching my 19 year old son. Never skated 2 months he already can drop in and pump mini ramp and ride out of a quarter pipe. So rad skating with your son man. It a feeling I can’t describe. I’m in heaven when me and him are out there shredding the pool together doing duos awesome feeling. Can’t wait until I get my grinds back in the deep end so we can do a clip together of me grinding the corner and him going under. Hell yea keep shredding guys skate or Die! Reissue decks are the way to go. Love your channel man just found it I subbed

    I love it...thanks for sharing your skate journey. I was pulled back into skating when my Son wanted to buy a longboard...I started looking online and came across reissues. Found him a wicked Lucero 12 XU and never looked back. I bought a reissue of my first pro deck...a Dogtown Aaron Murray (2017) and have grabbed a few more decks since then lol. Thanks for commenting👊🏼

    Hey man, I’m a kid and don’t have much money to buy an old school. Can you tell me the price for the cheapest Powell peralta board?

    Are you looking for old school shapes? They all run around the same price point unless you're getting the Bones Brigade Series decks then they're a little more.

    @@razorsharkfin1 In Canada the PP old school shapes run between $110 to $140 unless you can find them on sale. The Bones Brigade Series push $200 this time around.

    It was my first skateboard with slime all wheels and I dependant trucks . I rode the truck out of it and used as my only means to get , I had no bike. It vanished one day without a trace so I lost a big piece of my youth but decided to bring it back once I saw all over eBay. I’ve since became conditioned to any and most newer decks so was curious how it would feel taking it back to what I got my start with. Still the best board abouve all . I love it.

    Sounds like you had a killer setup. That's truly what I love about the reissues...the opportunity to relive our youth. Thanks for the comment👊🏼

    Are people keeping the edition sticker on? (When setting up) or peeling them.

    I've heard of people leaving them on and just using clear grip. I've also seen one guy create a little plastic protector/display case for it.

    Sounds like a killer setup. Sorry to hear that it got swiped. That's the best thing about reissues...provides the opportunity to recreate this amazing memories.
