    Herman Hitson was a great guitar player who recorded with singer/saxophonist Lonnie Youngblood in the early 1960's, but a lot of the records they made together were reissued with the guitar parts credited to the other guitarist who'd been working with Youngblood at the time, Jimi Hendrix. My husband Charles recognized this song as the old gospel standard "You Can't Beat God's Giving," used in many Black churches for the offertory (when they pass the collection plate).

    Thank you as always. I learned a lot from your comment. As you can see, this LP was produced in Japan, but the company that produced it did not seem to understand the details of the artists. The commentary only mentions famous artists, and there is no recording data. Your comment helped me understand it better. I am very grateful.💕

  • @user-doc-ta

    I understand very well what you are saying, but the recording equipment I use is the type that inevitably splits into left and right when converting from analog to digital, so if I try to record in mono it sounds muffled. I think stereo is easier to listen to, so I record it as is. However, I take your opinion seriously and will try to see how I can make better recordings in mono in the future, so please don't get your hopes up too much. Thank you for your valuable comment.🙏

    @@user-doc-ta Thank you for your understanding. But since it is a mono record, you can always use just one channel (left or right) as a mono source.

  • @user-doc-ta
    @user-doc-ta10 күн бұрын

    @@jourwalis-8875 Thank you for your reply. It's true that if you import it into a PC, you can make a mono recording using only one channel and reduce noise, but I don't like doing that because it ends up sounding a little different from what I'm listening to. Of course, if you're listening to analog, the music becomes digital when you upload it to a video, but I think recording directly from the player through a phono equalizer feels a little more analog to me. As you suggested, I'd like to try recording in mono on the amp, but I don't think I can expect much. I understand that it's strange to have stereo in mono, but the sound quality sounds the most natural to me.

    T.O.B.A. stands for Theatre Owners Booking Association. This was a group of mostly black owned vaudeville theatres that catered under Jim Crow laws to a Black American audience with Black American performers. This included big stars like Bessie Smith and many lesser known acts like this group. That establishes this band as Black American.

    I learned a lot from your comment. I am Japanese, but discrimination exists in Japan as well. I think it is a negative part of history. But when I listen to jazz music with an awareness of whites and blacks, I strongly feel that both have a wonderful duality. I feel that it is a new culture and art of a young country. It says "JOHN KIRBY AND ORCHESTRA: As above, but Specs Powell, d, replaces Spencer; Lou Singer, a. New York, October 7, 1941." After that, it doesn't say that O'Neil Spencer returned until February 11, 1942. Is that wrong?

    I've heard better-sounding transfers of this remarkable recording (notably on a Jazz Oracle CD), but Alphonso Trent's band was one of the most underrated ensembles of the swing era.
