My friends & I were all inspired by Olga, we were the same age! In 7th grade we caught Olga fever & when we got our first Aereal cartwheels we were so thrilled! What a fun time! To witness Olga, Nadia, Elena , and more! A thrill we older gals remember fondly!

First I thought of Kerri Strug then Svetlana Khorkina in the 96 Olympics. I watched then both and they were so magnificent. And when I saw Olga Korbut uneven bars in 72, then Nadia Comenaci in the 76 I said ohhhh my God they were fabulous.

I got into gymnastics because of Olga and Ludmilla. I also now blame them for my arthritic joints, having had to have total hip replacement to both hips. I have come to the conclusion that God did not design our bodies especially our joints to be forced into unnatural positions otherwise everyone from birth would be able to achieve them and be able to continue doing so for the remainder of their life. Constantly forcing joints out of position is not natural or wise as I have later learned. My hips started playing up in my late 20’s but had to wait until I was 55 to receive my 1st hip leaving me crippled for over a decade. My 2 nd hip was done at 60, and I am still suffering the after effects. Had I of known the damage I was doing to my body at such a young age then continued to do high impact sports well into my 40’s I would rather had been a couch potato and kept healthy joints. It’s easier to loose weight than be crippled with arthritis you never fully recover from. All I want to achieve now is to get down onto my knees onto the floor and then get back up again. This I know will never be an accomplishment I will now ever achieve as I’ve been trying since 2007! Believe me once you get new hips your life is over!

She did good in selling her medals in older years, I would have done the same. I wish her own country gave her the comfort she had to search in another countries, where she is teaching kids in gimnastics instead of doing it in her own country. That makes me sad, but United States buy people because they want to compete and win in every category.
