I owe 95 1kz just like yours, but I’m in Kazakhstan. To be fair, I dont really get, why would you pay 12g for 2nd gen 4runner… - there is no options that surf has, that 4runner does not have - 1kz is not good on gas, prone to head cracking, fuel system is quite complicated, and super hard to diagnose. I would advice the owner to buy SPV valve and keep it as spare, as it can stop the car just in about any moment with no warning. I feel like 2nd gen 4runner with 3.4 swap is cheaper, better option and less headache with finding parts for it. To be fair, it can be fun to mod this engine a lil. This engine responds very well to exhaust mods, get or make new dump pipe, install EGT gauge and crank the boos up to 14psi. You can make resistor mod as well ofter you install EGT gauge, you can crank up fuel and boost it will drive waaay faster then now, 4.88 gears on 33s is very good too, or you can get 4.56 gears off a junk yard 2nd gen 4x4 4runner, will help a alot with power on 33s, right now you have 4.10 gears. Get a lunch box locker, will make the world of a difference offroad, you will be amazed how good this thing is offroad with locker. 2nd gen lexus gs300 seats bolt right it, they are waay more comfortable too. If we are talking about 3rd gen, then JDM surf had some cool unique features (compas, spoiler with mirror in the back, super cool instrument cluster etc.) Dont want to sound like hater, I owe exact same car, but I picked it up because RHD diesel cars are not very desirable here therefore cheaper.

The only thing I don’t like is the V10. Being a 3rd generation mechanic an machinist. I’m very familiar with the problems that stopped V10 from being made years ago. Their major flaw which wasn’t fixed it was just rigged is vibration. When you go from 8 cyl to 10 it has very bad vibration. That’s why Ferrari went with a V 12. The only way this proves me wrong is seeing V10s with 200,000 miles , 300,000 miles. There is tons of V8, V6 with close to 300,00 some over. Time will tell. In that amazing van I would put a Cummins. The problem is the nut bags in Government trying to destroy diesel. The safest and best engine ever designed. Sorry for the rant but sometimes us old mechanics might be right. Of course I’m waiting to hear why the V10 is a good option especially since it’s just about disappeared.
