    The Witch part 2 has its moments, but it was no where near as good as part 1. As for this, I haven't watched it yet, but I enjoyed your review and will add it to my watch list. I'm currently on Revenant staring Kim Tae-ri, which has been pretty good so far, but I'm only 3 episodes in.

    I once read a horror book that described a spider that was the size of a cat, and I think that's the most horrifying size a spider can be. Too big to be squished, but still big enough to hide.

  • @DragonTrove

    What I mean is that I can understand why the directors would choose to go that route given the indie situation and timing, but that I disagree with that decision entirely. I'm very anti-AI art for obvious reasons. And by all means, hurt the pockets. Different forms of protest are valid too in order to get the idea across to the production companies. If you'd rather not support it financially, the film will be on streaming in a few days.

    I was just completely disappointed in this one. While not completely terrible, it's definitely the worst of the Kung Fu Panda franchise - beating the third film by a mile. The only real redeeming qualities are the animation qualities and the music. The jokes could be funny, but most were a miss - especially that one scene where Po and Zhen sneak around all those sleeping henchmen, while making absurdly loud noises (that didn't even wake anyone). I was absolutely disappointed that the Furious Five didn't even have supporting roles. And the Chameleon was definitely the most pathetic villain of the franchise - everything she did was because she was too small to learn Kung Fu? Kung Fu is all about technique, not size. Zhen is smaller than her, so how did she learn Kung Fu? Heck, Mantis is smaller than both of them, and he's one of the greatest warriors in all of China. And they basically dumbed down Po's character, despite all the growth he's done in the previous three movies. And having Po choose Zhen as his successor...that was a down right terrible decision. It was like the movie was basically saying that it doesn't matter if you're not likeable and have little to no character development - just as long as you're a woman - so it was like shoving more of that female empowerment toxicity that has been going on with other projects in our faces. If that's what they were going for, than they had to look no further...than Tigress - she has had almost as much character development and growth than Po has - she was the perfect candidate for the title. But what probably disappointed me the most...was the limited time Tai Lung had. Tai Lung has always been my favorite antagonist of the entire franchise - and he deserved better than what he got. What happened to giving him a proper Redemption Arc? The side characters are also no better. There was so much that could have made this movie better. How about The Chameleon suffering from an illness that prevents her from becoming a Kung Fu master - and so, she turned to magic to steal the powers of masters to become the strongest warrior alive (but never truly gets over her illness; which is why she continues to steal so many). The Chameleon hires Zhen to steal Po's staff - which she does, but is confronted by Shifu and is forced to take him as well. The Chameleon opens the Spirit Realm to summon Kung Fu master and steal their power, but Tai Lung escapes. Po struggles to choose the right candidate, but then Tai Lung reveals The Chameleon's plan. They head to Juniper City to take down the Chameleon. On their way, Tai Lung and Po train and begin to learn from each other - but the Furious Five have trouble trusting him. Once there, they meet up with Zhen, who agrees to help them…for a price. They head to the Chameleon's lair, but Zhen betrays them and the Chameleon steals their Kung Fu (minus Po, Tigress and Tai Lung who narrowly escape). Po and Tai Lung get into a duel after Po loses his confidence, but Tai Lung encourages him. Zhen realizes her mistake and helps Po convince the Den of Thieves to stop the Chameleon. As the villagers battle the Chameleon's army, Po, Tigress and Tai Lung try to fight the Chameleon but get overwhelmed when the Chameleon turns into a horrifying Chimaera. The Chameleon then steals their powers, and soon overpower them. Po gives Tigress his staff, with which she summons a majestic dragon of Yin and Yang, which defeats the Chameleon; and uses the staff to return all of the stolen kung fu skills to their owners, who return to the Spirit Realm. Shen and Kai take the Chameleon with them. As Tai Lung departs, Po closes the portal; allowing Tai Lung to stay and further redeem himself. Tai Lung gives his respect to Po and finally acknowledges him as the true Dragon Warrior. Back at the Valley, Tai Lung reunites with Shifu, expressing that he will wait as long as it takes to be forgives…before accepting a cup of warm tea with his old master. Po choose Tigress as his successor. Po and Tai Lung help train Tigress to become the next Dragon Warrior.

  • @DragonTrove
    @DragonTrove3 ай бұрын

    That's also a very good alternative idea for how the story could have gone. I think making Tigress the new warrior would have been an odd choice though. If Po is that far along he needs an apprentice, Tigress would be too, by definition. Still yeah, I agree with pretty much everything else you got here. Weak sauce all around

    There's a review from Smarty Pants that mentions his idea of the Dragon Warrior is creating a legend out of nothing because if wisdom and skills were actual factors Po would never have been chosen in the first place. Zhen being the Dragon Warrior makes sense because she was a nothing thief in the same sense that Po was the nothing son of a noodle maker.

    You didnt find anything on the language used in the film when researching Argentina because they are using a language used by rural people to talk about deceased and infected animals. The english subtitles talk about "possessed" but in the original language they never mention any kind of possession; instead they use "enbichado" (literal translation is "has bugs in it") wich is when an animal gets hurt and the wound gets infected with maggots. Thats only one of the multiple terms that the subtitles in english fail to portray the true meaning, maybe a cultural difference that doesnt translate well outside of Argentina.

    The chant doesn't have to be heard by the victim at all, or at least not after the first swap. The creature just has to say it. This happens later in the movie. I think the creature just enjoys tormenting his victims and so wants them to freak out knowing it's about to happen.

  • @DragonTrove

    Probably, yeah. It has the sadistic personality. But that swapping mechanic just isn't explained very well and the rules behind it are rather flimsy. An interesting idea, but eeeh in execution, imo anyway

    oh hey, fellow dragon lover :> thanks for the video! actually really appreciated the positivity lol. I didnt even watch the movie or know it was coming out but I dont keep up with this kinda thing so not a massive surprise. I did happen to see a scene by scene recap/ breakdown and I thought the hate was warranted as the story itself seemed...pretty broken but I was pleasantly surprised watching this as you went in with a much more positive outlook. not that I want to defend the movie or anything but I did think the massive hate around absolutely everything was a little over the top, like the first video I watched didnt think any of the actors were even acting? which felt a little unfair but yk, I didnt watch it so couldnt say anything. I also thought the movie fumbled the bag a bit in terms of...logical writing (like the ending was just so messy damn) and I think the movie had tons of potential it lost out on but it does reek of corporate meddling like disney ALWAYS seems to have which is just sad. hope the actresses dont get discouraged by this and I hope the directors take this feedback for improvement. the writing itself seemed extremely messy and I think if they had a better script/ had less rewrites post production (some scenes just look so baffling like honestly, if carol couldve restarted the sun whenever why tf did she sit around and mope for 30 years doing nothing and also why the hell did the villain abandon her motivation in the last 5 minutes that was just stupid) I thought the movie had a lot of potential and even if it wasnt a masterpiece or even good, it does seem like a lot of the hate is carrying on from other recent mcu films. which yk, is also fair bc at the end of the day it IS entertainment and if that fails to be entertaining, well... regardless of how much effort went in the audience does matter somewhat and its just a bit of a shame. really wish studios would pick up on storytelling methods from spiderverse and arcane and not just constantly steal the aesthetic assuming thats why its popular... anyways thanks for the review! Id love to go check out more of your videos and I dont usually comment but I wanted to here :) have a lovely day!
