Many have tried to capture the gripping realism that “bleeds” through out this movie. Peckinpah’s Pat Garret & Billy the Kid comes close but is no Wild Bunch!

… you are really talking about the American War of Southern Succession. The South no more wanted to take over Washington DC than the American colonies wanted to take over London. That is a civil war.

Dear Mr lmao, I am talking diction here, regardless of intent, it was not a civil war but one of secession. Know the difference.

Great that you have appeared in person. The presentation is far preferable to endless repeats of snow, ice and fjords. Respect for the research on historic background and Tom Clancy.

I *LOVE* this series. started reading the films, red October, patriot games, clear and present danger, sum of all fears, once I was finished with sum of all fears I was hooked. have them all hardback and they are very precious to me.

Another great review! If you like Harpoon II, you should also check out the Red Storm Rising computer game (wherein you play the skipper of a Hunter-Killer whilst the events of the novel unfold) or the modern spiritual successor Cold Waters.

I haven't read the book, but I've seen the movie at least 10 times, it's one of my favorites. You put the part very well that they were intelligent, goal-oriented characters, the only comical figure was perhaps the national security advisor. The music, tense scenes, Sean Connery"s acting, so on and so on. I dont know how this movie doing it, but every time i'm watching it, i sit excitedly in my chair like I'm seeing the movie for the first time. I never heard of harpoon 2 thx for the reccomendation.

I have seen this movie so many times and after enough viewings, I thought I observed an interesting twist to the story. Is it possible that Tom Turner (son of Granny, father of Laura Turner) was killed by Josey at the surrender when he was manning the Gatling gun? The only hint we get, I think, is when the group first arrive at the dry saloon. Granny says something about her son getting cut down by a "Missouri ruffian." Then there is a quick shot of Josey in shadow except for a beam of light across his eyes, but there is ample enough light to see the brief pained look on his face. He had a fairly thick skin by this point and I doubt he was reacting to her oft-repeated insult. Instead, maybe it was a reaction after the sudden realization that he killed Tom Turner, and now he is living among his entire family. Its very subtle, but very Quint to avoid the temptation to spotlight this irony.

Thank you for this review. I once watched this movie - in part or in whole - every night for an entire year. It took me that long to fully appreciate it, and I remain convinced that it is the only perfect movie that I have ever seen. Your review captures many of the things that make it perfect and it makes me feel good to know that there is someone else who actually gets this movie.
