God job man! You have a nice little runabout on your hands.
And where are all the nay-sayers that cut Hubnut short now? Eating humble pie? Still convinced that Ian was to blame and will be to blame for _anything_ that might happen in this car's future?
Keep fighting the good fight! Even when they do show up it takes forever. Friend of mine ended up waiting eight hours for the RAC to show up to recover her car after it was written off by a delivery driver while parked at work.
Make a complaint through resolver. You'll get your money back 100% it will deal with ombudsman and the process for you.
I can't understand why the tow truck didn't take the car back to your place at least, lucky you didn't have small children with you. Discusting service mate. Aussie Graham.

Glad to hear the news! Enjoy driving it again, and keep us up to date. 👍
Great that you have been able to diagnose the ussue and replace the offending conpinent. Regarding the roof its always nice when a fault xan ve fixed by simoly pushing a plug back in. Ive had similar issues in the past though in my case I dud winder why it had been disconected in the first place. Well done Davy.
Wonderful news dalveen pass is a beautiful run happy motoring greetings from south Lanarkshire
Missed the June one, looks a decent turnout though
@@Goingplaces110 yeah I missed yesterday's but so much on at the minute.
@@scottishcarenthusiastsandtrain I'll miss the next one but definitely try to get down when I can. Catch up with you at something lol
Glad it's fixed and back running. The joys of car ownership lol
So basically you were sensible and let a professional look at it rather than stabbing in the dark like the previous owner.......
@@Patmac74 I had thought about it doing myself but I don't have the patience if I ballsed it up or somethinf went wrong! 😂
The problem that arose here had NOT presented itself while with the "previous owner". Stop giving Hubnut the flak.
Is a result love these cars
Brilliant nice easy fix , thats what we like .. look forward to seeing more of this little car ... i do love a Smart 👌
Put some tape round the multiblock to stop it popping out again.
I was going to suggest a tie wrap. Less messy.
U bought a car from Ian ANYTHING can happen 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A crank sensor can fail irrespective of previous ownership!
If someone owns a car that you previously owned and a part randomly fails, do you accept full responsibility that it's your fault?
And how exactly could a previous owner influence the failure of a crank sensor on an 18 year old car???
@@alzdeane u don’t know the cars history 🤣🤣🤣
@@squirrel6158 Yes, I do, watched every video on Hubnut about it. He didn't touch the crankshaft sensor. Regardless, it's a private sale - sold as seen, no warranty. The buyer knew that. Any 18 year old car may have stuff fail, regardless of who previously owned it.
You can pull all the pins out and dispose of your Hub Nut voodoo doll now! Let's hope it remains fairly trouble-free from now onwards.
Great news mate. Aussie Graham.
Buy whole milk, which comes with a blue cap. Most washer bottle caps that I've come across are blue in colour.
Milk bottle top .. who knew 😁
@@Jaxs2 was on the car when I got it 🤣
@scottishcarenthusiastsandtrain Oh my , it gets better 😂 ebay a few quid for a new one it's funny, tho 🤣
@@Jaxs2 aye I never noticed at first, was thinking why it said store upright at first 😂 only when I took the cap off to top up the screenwash I had a proper look, it's on the list to change once my bank account recovers.
The milk bottle cap will perish after a while so collect a few I’m glad the smart is finally fixed greetings from South Lanarkshire
@@ianstewartorr8455 yes glad it's fixed, video to come soon on the issue.
What a lovely cat! 🐈
I thought maybe the R50 generation Mini would have made it Davy
@@stevieboyNI I can add it on for another video. But I agree a R50 mini is one I would have as a modern classic.
@@scottishcarenthusiastsandtrain That would be good mate. Hoping to have mine at Rustival
I have a mk 1 tddi focus estate in need of tlc in the yard. I keep telling the missus it will be a classic, shes not convinced 😅
@@kevfit4333 funny my wife thinks the same 😂😂
Bad luck with the breakdown, on the bright side though, at least it happened close to home and didn’t leave you stranded somewhere between Birmingham and Edinburgh. Fingers crossed it’s a cheap and easy fix
Hope you get it sorted soon. Sounds like a bad sensor. Hopefully nothing more major than that.
Very shaky, if you are trying to be more like Hubnut you should try a gimbal. Should stabilise for better viewing
Remember to check the oil level, they burn oil like crazy. Because the oil is so thin, you dont see the reek. But its burning like crazy. Check the oil weekly.
@@perwahloo3499 used to checking oil quite often I also have a pure tech engined car that likes a drink of oil....
I'd love to watch more of the videos but the shakiness really isn't something I can watch more of. Good luck with the Smart, though.
Send these videos to the RAC and see what they say I don’t think even they can say that they are providing aa acceptable level of service.
Such a shame you’re having so much trouble, it’s seems a fun little car! Hope you manage to get it sorted soon. For what it’s worth, I had a horrid time with the RAC failing to come out previously, over the years the few times I’ve needed recovery the AA have been super compared.
Symptoms sound like crankshaft sensor. Take it to a dealer who can plug it in and look at live data. Should cost an hours labour to diagnose. Stay away from parts swappers hit and miss mechanics.
@@user-ef2px4xb8d car is going into garage on Thursday.
Well done Davy, 1000 subs! Hope you have better luck with the Smart soon
I wish you luck. .... I think you need it with a Smart
Their taking the pee mate. I'm in the Rac and pay just over £70 a year for roadside, at home and recovery.
I’d demand a refund in FULL from RAC and tell them to shove their business!
@@seancarritt2438 a complaint has been raised and we have now given them a couple of days so we will be contacting them tomorrow.

A mess for poor Davy :-(
Was the car sold as seen ?
@@rudecomb2006 sold as a project as it needs the exhaust back box changed which is planned for it, so I was expecting to do or get things changed over.
I suspect Ian is regretting selling to a mechanically challenged you tuber ……..
Some folk here need to think about what they are saying. I have been critical of Hubnut's bodges from time to time especially one iirc when he was tinkering with brakes on one of his cars. However, everybody buying old secondhand cars privately, usually to save money or to obtain something old that they have a soft spot for knows full well that you are one turn of the key away from yet another breakdown. This is why the roads are not littered with 20 to 30 year old cars in daily use. It's terrible bad luck but then Hubnut did a lot of recommissioning work on this car. And then he drove it from his home to Birmingham to sell it and it immediately went from birmingham to Edinburgh, all without problems. If that isn't a good road fest I don't know what is. How many timesnhave we seen Hubnut buy a car and find it riddled with faults? It's why the used banger game makes for compelling youtube viewing. Good luck with getting back on the road. If you have a "buy me a coffee" or other fundraiser point us to it and I'll bung a few quid in to help you back onto the road.
Very, very well said indeed. I'm quite disappointed to see so many derogatory comments directed toward Ian. It's rather unfair. As you say, this is the used car game. Sometimes you win, but you have to expect the worst and hope for the best. You're buying something completely unknown, often with no service history, multiple owners, and mostly at least 2 decades old. It is very much caveat emptor and a gamble. You cannot turn around and blame the last owner, unless they were absolutely dishonest and knowingly misrepresenting it, which I'm sure Ian wouldn't have done. The people suggesting the new owner should return it for a refund or ask Ian to contribute to the cost of repair are forgetting that a private sale, at least where I come from, is a hand shake and good luck. As soon as you hand over the cash and take the keys, it's your problem. You own it. The seller doesn't want to hear about it. If you want protection and comeback, pay more and buy from a licenced motor vehicle dealer. This is unfortunate and annoying, but it has happened to all of us who buy these old cars, more than once. And it will happen again. Hopefully it's nothing too major and it'll be up and running again.
Hello, Ex Iain’s Hub Nut’s Car?
It is yes.
Make sure that if you paid the £160 by credit card, to contact the credit card provider as the service paid for was not provided. They are generally much more sympathetic than a company which wants to keep your money. It might not be fixed yet, but it still looks cool outside your house. Please keep us updated.
