Dude... ive been listening to the boys since 2016 and all this time i thought tyler said "I'm best friends with my dog." I NEVER understood what that meant... but "I'm best friends with my doubt" makes SOOOO much more sense. I feel like a fake fan almost for not knowing this... big OOOF! Sahlo Folina <3

You’re so adorable, the line “it’s a taste test” is Tyler saying here’s a taste test of punk music for the majority of the click being a pop listening demographic. Especially Tyler has been saying that he’s been using this album as a jumping board to make other types of music other than pop. Anyways, great video.

Honestly, I don't think it is that much about addiction. There's been a lot of speculation for a long time that Tyler Joseph used to self-harm, and I think that is where he probably gets most of his perspective on addiction. The more recent music is a lot more about addiction than the old stuff, even with a song like addict with a pen not being about addiction. It's about his relationship with God. Being a fan of a musician or a writer is that we can't know what's really going on in their personal lives, and we shouldn't. So musicians might have a hard time drawing that line and keeping it that way. While there are fans like us, who theorize about every single bit of their music trying to find meaning in his words, so while it sounds like he's talking about something like alcoholism or drug addiction, it really could just be about self-harm or his relationships and we'll never know. It could even be just plain old sin that he writes about. That's the thing about addiction is that there are so many things you can be addicted to and the effects and the process of going through the addictions are all very similar, while also very different at the same time. So while some might hear "hit" and thinking drugs, others might hear Backslide and think of their Christian life. I only ever really heard the word backslide when I was involved with evangelical Christians so I think that part of his life (religion and God) has a heavy influence on what he writes, but no matter what, the point of music is like, this is for us to be able to project ourselves, our needs our thoughts on. We're reflecting what Tyler says to us. In whatever way, it affects him specifically and when Tyler says that the slightest echo would be enough for him to make it through. That's what he's talking about. He's talking about knowing that we're all messed up and we can all take what he vulnerably shares and make it something we can reflect our trouble on. It's always going to be interpreted through the lens that the listener decides to use. The lens of a clique theorist is very different from the lens of a casual Boomer who just likes the sound. But no matter what, Tyler has been able to use his music for himself. And he wants others to use it. If you listen to the lyrics from message man, he makes that very clear. It seems like since the pandemic, like most people, Tyler has been going through hard times a lot more than usual, and he might be having a hard time finding a way to cope with it. So writing music obviously will be something that he would turn to. We should be thankful that he's willing to be so vulnerable as to share his troubles such as this with his fans and trust that we won't misuse it. Sorry if this is all jumbled, I'm typing on my phone and it's a pain in the ass.

@@TOPpatience Tyler was supposedly doing dishes when he came up with an idea that changed the direction of his music. My theory is that since he was a literary major, he found a way to create a story thru his music, tying in his Faith, depression, addiction, morality and such. The book All My Sons is simply where the name of Twenty One Pilots comes from, however, there are also storylines from other books tied into the lyrics.

Okay This is still not my find, I think it was originally pointed out on a reddit thread then forgotten about But on the cd jacket (I don't think it's on the vinyl sleeve/cover, but i don't really know) of the BF album, there are a pair of eyes, exactly where the red tape is They are to the left-hand side of the patterned circles when looking at it straight on; in the black margin They are a blacker shade of black, or a greyer shade of black, so they are subtle to the eye, but I wonder if no one really knows about this? Or everyone does and they just aren't including me in the inner circles of the Clique Anyways, those eyes are right under the red tape, I think Also, they align perfectly with Trash's eyes Which would be super bugnuts if they knew in 2014-15 that their album Blurryface would have an easter egg from a future •optional• era in 2021? Or 2022? whenever it was that SAI was released I mean, it would probably be around eight years beforehand? That is substantial foresight for an album that Tyler classified as just one of two possibilities There are also those who believe that one of the eyes aligns with Clifford's Check it out for yourselves!

Y’all need to stop with the Dema stuff. It’s clearly has nothing to do with the story. And the lyrics 100% make sense and literally says what he means. “Here’s a taste test” means he’s a taste of the punk music that he is presenting to the click(because this is the first punk song TOP has ever made and he’s a little afraid of what the click might think… because they listen to pop music and shit like that). “Of what I hate less” he hates punk music less than most things he presumably hates. Then all the other lyrics are clear as day talking about anxiety/panic attacks.

You clearly have not been paying attention because the band has made it very clear that this album is about the lore. For Pete's sake, the NAME of the album is lore. There is plenty of room for double meanings. If you don't like it then don't watch it.

I'm wondering, given that all of this is a repeating cycle, if at the very end of Clancy, we see Tyler once again in the car from heavydirtysoul, but instead of in the back, he's up front, in the driver's seat because he's finally in control of his own life. No longer tethered to Blurryface and Dema. I noticed during the Next Semester video, that each time he dodges the "car" that has suspiciously blue neon lights, he seems to gain more and more confidence in avoiding it, until the last one where he's wearing the Clancy mask, where it looms lkke he's almost daring the "car" to hit him right up until he steps away at the last second. He's not afraid anymore, or at the very least, he's overcome it. And with the fight back, he's taking back control of his life. I honestly think it would be a fitting end to see him driving the car at the end, no longer having to fear where it (the car/his mind) will take him.
